Chapter Text
“It’s ok, baby, I’m right here.” Melissa McCall soothed, gingerly stroking Scott's face.
Her free hand shook his emergency inhaler before giving him another spray.
“Deaton drive faster please.” She growled.
“The peddle is already to the metal.” He retorted.
As they exited the tree line they saw the flashing lights of a fire truck. Two police cars followed them up the path to the Hale house. The nurse paid it little mind as she tried to force back her anxiety. No amount of emergencies at the hospital could prepare her for seeing her pride and joy asphyxiate. Knowing that he was tortured, screaming in a dark basement thinking no one would come. She squeezed him tight, lowering her lips to his ear.
“I’m so sorry Scott, I should have gone with you or checked in sooner. I swear on my life no one will ever hurt you like this. Come hell or high water I will protect you, my sweet angel. But I need you to fight.”
She kissed his temple as they jolted to a stop. Reaching forward she pulled the trunk’s release cord.
“Come on baby, help me get you inside.” She encouraged, pulling him out.
Melissa sat him up, pushing his limp body to the edge of the trunk. She then tucked herself under his arm while wrapping a strong arm around his waist. With all the strength she could muster, the nurse stood baring all his weight. Victoria rushed over to help her since Chris was carrying Allison bridal style.
“Thank you.” Melissa whimpered as they rushed inside.
Chris set Allison on the couch then picked up Scott.
“His room is this way.”
For a moment Victoria watched her husband and the nurse disappear, then turned to Deaton. He was struggling with Derek so she swallowed her pride and rushed to him.
He took a step back but she held up her hands.
“Please I want to help.”
Nodding he allowed her to position herself under his other arm. Chris came back down in time to grab Derek’s feet and help lug him up as well.
“Put him with Scott so I can work on them both at once. Melissa do you have Scott’s backup inhaler, just incase that one runs out?”
She nodded and raced out of the room.
“Bring Allison into my room, the couch is uncomfortable.” Melissa rushed as she jogged down the stairs.
Victoria went into the room to pull back the covers while Chris retrieved their girl. When he laid her down his wife immediately unlaced and took off their daughter’s shoes. She then covered her with the duvet and kissed her forehead.
“How many darts were in her?” Chris asked, leaning against the wall.
“Ten. She’ll be out for a while.”
“…….So what are we gunna do Vick?”
She turned and looked at him, eyes cold yet determined. No words were exchanged but his question was answered. He approached the bed to kiss Allison on the forehead before leaving the room. He saw Melissa struggling with a black trunk, at the bottom of the steps, so he rushed to help.
“Stay down here we need to talk.” He stated.
The look in his eyes made her nod and step back. After delivering the trunk to Deaton Chris returned to Melissa.
“My sister did this and knowing her she’ll probably call in our dad, who is far worse.”
“Why are you telling me this?” She asked, confused and enraged.
“Because I need to know what’s more important to you; The oath every parent worth their salt makes when they look into the eyes of their baby. Or your occupational oath?” He asked.
She was taken aback as she stared into Chris's cold eyes. Her own moved to the stairs, the image of Scott fighting for his life made the answer very simple.
“I need your schedule”
With a nod Melissa took it off the fridge and gave it to him.
“What do I have to do?”
“Whatever you deem necessary based on their injuries. We trust your medical Judgement.” He asserted.
Nodding she held out her hand for him to take.
“Aim for the end of my shift.” Melissa requested.
“Will do." Victoria agreed as she descended the stairs.
“Are you hungry?” She asked when she reached the bottom, eyes fixed on the somber woman.
Melissa nodded and pointed to her Kitchen. Victoria hugged her then walked to the fridge to find ingredients. Chris made his way to the couch and flopped down, body deflating with a groan. Melissa began pacing at the bottom of the stairs.
buzz-buzz. buzz-buzz. buzz-buzz. buzz-buzz.
Chris glanced over at her from the couch.
“You gunna get that?” He asked.
The brunette stopped then turned to glare at him.
“It’s been ringing since we got here.” Victoria added.
With a sigh she pulled the phone out of her pocket and answered with a harsh, “Hello?”
“Is Stiles with you?”
The question made Melissa’s blood run cold.
“Tell Alison to meet me at the Hale house.”
“No.” She gasped before hanging up.
Frantically she dialed Jordan.
