Shinji didn’t mean to fall for Sawamura, but before he knew it he was going down swinging

Sawamura keeps calling Shinji pet names and Shinji doesn’t know how to feel about it

Work Text:

Sawamura is the most frustrating person that Shinji has ever had the pleasure of knowing. Sure he’s gotten used to the guy’s total lack of volume control and his incessant need to scream whatever he’s feeling at the top of his lungs, but there’s nothing that will ever get Shinji used to how erratic his attention span is. He somehow constantly wavers between intense focus to gross inattention, and, unfortunately, tonight is one filled with the latter.

Instead of helping Shinji practice, he’s poking and prodding at Furuya, jeering at him while he tries to head back towards the dorm. They’re never going to get anything accomplished at this rate.

“Hey jerk! You’re supposed to be teaching me how to bunt instead of dicking around!” Shinji shouts, frustrated by Sawamura’s antics.

“Sorry princess.” Sawamura replies unapologetically as he jogs back over and redirects his focus and his hands towards Shinji’s waist. “I didn’t realize you wanted my attention that badly.” he says. If he was any closer his chest would be pressed right against Shinji’s spine.

God his hands are so warm . Shinji can feel his breath hitch and his heart give out when Sawamura’s fingers start to dig into his hip bones.

Sawamura lets out a laugh when he feels Shinji shudder against him, “I told you. It’s all in the hips.” he whispers, breath hot on the outer shell of Shinji's ear while he presses his fingers further into Shinji’s skin, motioning for him to square his hips.

But Shinji isn’t swayed so easily. Snapping out of his haze, he drops his bat and whirls around, looking directly into Sawamura’s eyes, “Wait. Did you just call me princess?!” he asks, bewildered now that he’s come to his senses.

To his dismay, Sawamura just grins back boyishly, unashamed and unmoved by his question. “I just call it like I see it!” he says, smile burning brighter than a thousand watts. And even though Shinji is the taller of the two, he feels infinitely smaller with Sawamura looking at him like that.

Shinji really can’t stand this side of Sawamura. The cheeky, teasing side that no one else seems to have to put up with. It sets a fire inside his bones that can only be put out by smothering and smothering and smothering until it dies out.

“I hate you!” Shinji yells, whacking away at Sawamura’s chest as licks of flame make their way around his ribcage.

Shinji can feel Sawamura’s laugh rumble through his chest as he brings his hands up to Shinji’s wrists, “Hey, don’t be like that.” he says, pressing Shinji’s palms down into his jersey. Sawamura’s heart is beating so steadily compared to Shinji’s own. “I’m sorry baby. From now on, I promise that I’ll only dick around if you want me to.”

The pet name rolls off of Sawamura’s tongue so easily that it sends a warm tingle down to the base Shinji’s spine where it coils in on itself and settles deep into his gut. He needs to put a stop to this.

Shinji has always hated being teased but it’s even worse like this. Feeling like his world is turning upside down while Sawamura smiles at him like everything is wonderful and good.

“You are such a-” Shinji starts sputtering, only to be interrupted by his patient and angelic best friend who he happened to accidentally forget about.

“Hey, Shinji? Are you guys actually going to practice or can I go now?” Toujou asks from where he’s been watching from a distance since this whole interaction started.

Shinji jolts back, as if having been scorched. “Shut up Toujou!” he yells, removing his hands from Sawamura’s chest and picking up his bat. “I’ll be ready when I’m ready!” He needs to push this whole pet name thing into the recesses of his mind where it will stay locked up forever.

Baby .”

Shinji tries so hard to keep it in the back of his mind but any time he has a free second to think about something other than school and baseball his traitorous brain crawls back to Sawamura in his ear calling him ridiculous names.

It’s the night after the incident as he’s coined it and he’s practicing swing after swing, trying to chase the flames away and extinguish them for the last time. Unfortunately his swings only seem to fuel the fire.

It’s just so frustrating, the ease with which Sawamura says things and the way he never understands the weight his words carry. It makes Shinji’s chest ache when he thinks about how careless the pitcher can be. This whole situation needs to be forgotten or else it’ll affect Shinji’s play.

“Sweetheart!” yells a voice that Shinji has been dreading to hear. Maybe if Shinji ignores him he’ll go away. “If you swing anymore you’re going to get blisters right before our next practice match!” shit he’s only getting closer as he talks.

Shinji just swings harder, hoping that Sawamura will get the hint and leave him alone. But with every whoosh of the bat, he can hear the pitcher’s footsteps getting closer.

Shinji finally drops his bat and crosses his arms when Sawamura makes his way in front of him, “Go away.” he says, trying to muster up enough confidence to make it sound like he means it. “I need to get some good hits in or else I won’t be ready for the Summer.” And it’s true, after constantly switching places with Higasa during the fall, he needs to cement a solid spot as a starter.

“Yeah but you need to rest,” Sawamura whines, fingers hooking their way through Shinji’s belt loops and pulling him closer. “Come on baby, let’s go to the vending machine and I’ll get you a soda.”

There it is again. Baby. Shinji feels like such an idiot for being so vulnerable whenever Sawamura says that word. Even though Sawamura has always been good at poking Shinji’s weak spots, this is a whole new level of aggression.

“No.” Shinji says with as much courage as he can find within him. It’s so hard when Sawamura is so close to him, whining right in front of his face.

But Sawamura has never been one to back down from a challenge and he’s not starting now. As soon as Shinji sees him stand up on his toes and feels his breath right next to his ear he knows he’s already lost. “Please? For me.” Sawamura pleads, unhooking his fingers and moving his hands so that he can rub his palms up and down Shinji’s sides. “I know you want to.” he says with a teasing lilt. His hands are so warm and strong, it makes Shinji melt instantly. All the tension from before leaves his body in a single wave.

Shinji groans and slumps forward until his forehead is resting on Sawamura’s shoulder. “You’re so unfair. You know that right?” he asks, voice gruff and gravelly.

Sawamura just huffs out a laugh while he continues his ministrations. “I’ll buy you a snack for your troubles baby. It’s okay.”

“Let’s go before I change my mind.” Shinji says, swatting Sawamura’s hands away. If he keeps manhandling Shinji, they’ll never move from this spot.

Somehow, it becomes sort of a thing between them, the whole pet name situation. Quick brushes with a half hearted apology of, “Sorry baby, didn’t mean to run into you.” and a few pleas of “Sweetheart, can you help me practice tonight?” whispered into Shinji’s ear when no one is looking are peppered throughout the week.

He figures it’s another one of Sawamura’s idiosyncrasies. One of those weird things he does that gets under Shinji’s skin and makes him squirm. And he just knows that if he lets any annoyance show, Sawamura will only take it as encouragement to keep going. That he’ll take it as permission to keep teasing him. So Shinji resolves to ignore it and wait for Sawamura to get tired of it on his own.

Otherwise, Sawamura acts normally, shouting for someone to catch for him as soon as he’s done warming up and falling asleep in class every time the teacher turns around for more than a second. He carries on with his usual exuberance without a single chip on his shoulder.

Tonight is different though. As soon as Shinji walks into the dining hall he’s confronted with a sulking Sawamura staring into a nearly empty rice bowl. Even though no one seems to be paying him any attention, his lack of energy immediately puts Shinji on edge.

Quickly, he grabs a tray of food from the counter and scoops out two bowls of fresh steamed rice before putting them on his tray.

“Here. I already got your second bowl of rice.” Shinji says, sitting down at the end of the table next to Sawamura.

The pitcher turns towards Shinji and leans over to rest his chin on his shoulder, “Thanks sweetheart.” he mumbles, his nose barely brushing Shinji’s cheek. Luckily, his words are drowned out by the chatter of all their teammates.

Shinji feels himself softening a little at Sawamura’s tone, “What’s the matter? You were all broody when I came in.” he asks, quietly refusing to shrug Sawamura off like he usually would if he lingered this long.

Sawamura brings his hand to rest on top of Shinji’s thigh and squeezes gently, “Missed you.” he breathes out in a way that is so matter of fact it makes Shinji’s heart do a somersault.

“We spent the whole day together. What are you talking about?” Shinji whispers back, it makes his heart race, Sawamura thinking of him at all. He should be thinking about passing his classes or beating Furuya or literally anything else.

Sawamura leans back and looks at him with a pout, “Yeah but you sit all the way in the back of the classroom and we’re on different training menus.” he says petulantly. This guy.

The worst part is that when Shinji really thinks about it, he starts to miss Sawamura too. Watching the back of his head as he dozes off in class and listening to him scream from the bullpen aren’t the same as being with him. There’s something special about being the center of Sawamura’s attention that makes Shinji feel dizzy in the best way possible.

Bravely, he puts his hand on top of Sawamura’s own and pats gently. “Well I’m here now.” he reassures him, finally shrugging Sawamura off so he can finish the rest of his dinner.

When Sawamura picks his chopsticks up, he grins at Shinji, softer and gentler than he ever has before.

It makes Shinji’s stomach turn when he realizes that there’s no way this will end well for his heart.

“Baby!” Sawamura yells from Shinji’s desk. “I can’t figure out how to do this.”

Shinji closes the manga volume he borrowed from Yoshikawa and gets up off the floor to see what Sawamura has done to fuck up this time, “Lemme come up there and look at what you’re doing.”

Sawamura’s homework is covered in scratch marks and blobs of smeared graphite. It’s so bad that Shinji has to contain his groan at the sight of such messy work. He’s learned over time that Sawamura is easily discouraged by every little grunt and groan that Shinji makes when they’re studying together; more so than he is by Shinji’s insults and lectures.

“See.” Sawamura pouts, glaring at his paper with immense displeasure.

Shinji carefully rakes his eyes over the expression, scrutinizing it while he tries to figure out what exactly the pitcher was trying to do. “You idiot, you’re supposed to distribute before you subtract.” he scolds.

Sawamura goes quiet as he erases his previous attempt and follows Shinji’s instructions. He’s working with much more enthusiasm than usual and Shinji can’t help but smile at the way the tip of Sawamura’s tongue pokes out from between his teeth as he focuses.

When he’s done he immediately turns to look up at Shinji. “Did I get it right?” he asks, a hopeful gleam in his eyes. “Miyuki Kazuya said he’d catch for me if I finished my homework in less than an hour.”

Shinji puts his hand on Sawamura’s shoulder while he looks over the problem and rubs his palm back and forth when he finds no errors. “Yeah. You can go practice now.” he says softly, a little bit miffed that he’ll be left alone in his room the rest of his night. It scares him if he thinks about it too much. How attached he’s gotten in such a short amount of time.

“Thanks!” Sawamura exclaims, wrapping his arm around Shinji’s middle and squeezing quickly yet firmly before he runs out of the room. Leaving Shinji frozen standing by his desk. God, he’s so fucked.

Kanemaru Shinji

Die.

Today has truly been the most boring day since Shinji arrived at Seido. Going through the motions of morning practice and class just wasn’t the same without Sawamura yelling or making a scene. The only thing that stopped Shinji from throwing his phone at the wall every time he reread his texts with the pitcher was the risk of their teammates realizing that Shinji had finally lost all of his sensibilities.

It’s a miracle he got through the day at all, and there’s no practice this afternoon to distract him either. Maybe he’ll hang out with Sawamura if he isn’t too sick.

“Kanemaru-kun!” Yoshikawa yells, chasing after Shinji as he trudges down the hallway lost in thought. “Here! The teacher asked me to give Sawamura-kun’s assignments to you since you said you were in charge of keeping him caught up.” she says as she thrusts the stack of papers towards Shinji.

“Oh, thank you. Sorry for making you run after me.” he apologizes sheepishly, taking the papers from her. Even when Sawamura isn’t there he’s still able to make Shinji look like a complete idiot.

Yoshikawa flushes pink at that. “No! I mean- It’s okay. I know you probably just miss him.” she manages to get out, stumbling over her words.

Shinji stops in his tracks. “What?! Why would I miss that idiot?” he asks incredulously.

Surely there’s no way that she’s noticed his slightly foul mood. She’s pretty perceptive but Shinji thought he did a pretty good job hiding it.

“Well aren’t you two- you know- dating?” she asks, looking around the hallway frantically before whispering the last word as quietly as possible.

Shinji feels the floor collapse under his feet and his blood rush straight from his head down to his toes. There’s no way that this is happening right now. Absolutely not.

“What? No! We’re just friends!” Shinji shouts, not caring if anyone notices his current predicament.

Yoshikawa immediately puts her hand on his shoulder and shushes him with her index finger pressed to her lips. “Sorry, I must’ve misunderstood.” she whispers, her cheeks even more flushed than before.

She looks so apologetic that it makes Shinji deflate a little. Yoshikawa has never been one for gossip and he doesn’t think this is something that she’s talked about before given how shy she seems about the whole topic.

“It’s okay.” he says, her embarrassment makes his own fade significantly. If it were anyone else he’d probably grill them about what he’s just heard, but she’s always been so nice to him that it’s hard to be mad. Mostly, he just wants to go back to the dorm and forget this ever happened.

When Shinji gets to Sawamura’s room, his wandering thoughts about his conversation with Yoshikawa immediately evaporate as soon as he sees the pitcher lying in bed with a towel over his forehead.

“You look like shit.” he says, approaching Sawamura’s bunk and reaching up to run his fingers through the pitcher’s strands.

Sawamura turns onto his side so he can look at Shinji properly. “Baby,” he whines “you’re not s’posed to be mean to me when I’m sick.”

He looks a little pathetic like this; all flushed and sleepy eyed. It does something funny to Shinji’s stomach.

“I didn’t even know idiots could get sick.” he laughs, ignoring how his heart twists and letting himself take a little bit of joy in the fact that Sawamura was at least as miserable as he was.

Sawamura’s face sours instantly as he grumbles, “Yeah, well apparently they can.” It surprises Shinji a little, how quickly Sawamura takes him at face value when he’s been calling him stupid for as long as they’ve known each other. Who knew he would be so much more sensitive when he’s sick.

Shinji removes his hand from Sawamura’s hair to cup his cheek, “Hey, you know I don’t mean it, right?” he asks gently. It’s an awkward angle, but Shinji doesn’t care about that right now. Sawamura may be loud and bad at school but he’s not a complete idiot. He’s always learning and growing and showing Shinji just how much a person is capable of if they really try. It’s honestly kind of annoying thinking about how much Sawamura has matured in comparison.

In lieu of a reply, Sawamura flips over onto his other side so that he’s facing the wall and pulls the covers over his head; giving Shinji no other choice but to climb up the ladder to his bunk.

“Hey jerk, I wasn’t done talking to you.” Shinji scolds, situating himself at the end of the bed. “I’m not going to tell you that you’re a genius, but I will say you do well when you apply yourself and actually try.” he feels strangely emboldened by Sawamura’s sulking. “And I think you’re braver than all of us combined for trying when things get tough.”

Shinji stops his rambling when Sawamura slowly peels the covers down and looks at him intently. “C’mere.” he says, refusing to leave room for argument.

Without any hesitation, Shinji crawls over to Sawamura’s side and sidles himself under the covers. His bed is so warm from a whole day of Sawamura just laying there. “If you get me sick I’m going to kill you.” Shinji says, letting Sawamura wrap his arms around his torso.

“It’ll be your fault for not being an idiot.” Sawamura jokes as he nuzzles his face into Shinji’s shoulder.

“Yeah I guess it will be.” Shinji breathes out. His eyelids growing heavier by the second now that he’s wrapped up in Sawamura’s cocoon of a bunk.

Shinji has never been so pissed off in his life. First of all, his grade in math is slowly but steadily going on a downward spiral despite how much he’s been studying. Hours and hours of staring at formulas only for nothing to come to mind when the test comes around. And then, he made so many mistakes during today’s practice match that Coach Kataoka had to pull him aside and tell him to get it together or else he’d put in Higasa. Too many fielding errors and barely any hits this afternoon had pummeled his ego beyond recognition.

When everyone headed to dinner, he had stayed outside, resolving himself to a night of running as a distraction, but all he can do is think about everything that’s been on his mind the past couple weeks.

The math test that he should’ve aced. Step. The ball he fumbled in the seventh inning. Step. Yoshikawa thinking he was dating Sawamura. Step. Sawamura making his stomach turn every time he calls. Step. Sawamura. Step. Step. Step.

And when it really comes down to it, that’s the root of all problems right now. Sawamura.

Sawamura, who hasn’t really talked to Shinji since they took that nap in his bunk while he was sick. Who has been giving Shinji the cold shoulder and refusing to study with him under the guise of ‘already committing to studying with Harucchi.’ Who won’t even sit next to Shinji at dinner or call him anything but ‘Kanemaru.’

And Shinji’s not the only one who’s noticed it. It started with Toujou and Kominato cornering Shinji in the hallway at school and interrogating him about the lack of Sawamura latched onto his side. Only to be followed by the first year catcher that lives in Miyuki’s room pounding on the door the other night demanding answers as to why he hasn’t heard any ‘disgusting pet names coming out of Sawamura-senpai’s mouth’ in the past week. And when Shinji had asked Sawamura to play catch with him after dinner last night, Sawamura declined in front of the whole cafeteria and spurred a bunch of not so subtle whispers of ‘Did they break up?’ amongst all their teammates.

But despite Shinji’s best efforts to tell them that it’s not his fault , everyone seems to think Shinji must have done something to upset the pitcher. So he tries to analyze every interaction they had leading up to that day Sawamura was sick. Shinji wracks his brain trying to figure it out but he can’t come to any other conclusion than that maybe Sawamura just got tired of him and this is his way of letting Shinji down easy. That their weird little thing was what Shinji thought it was from the beginning, Sawamura messing with him and getting under his skin.

It makes him feel so stupid for having any hope at all that Sawamura would see him the way he sees Sawamura. Shinji was supposed to be the smarter one out of the two. He wasn’t supposed to fall for Sawamura’s stupidly careless words and dangerously persuasive sweet talking.

“Kanemaru!” shouts a voice that Shinji has been yearning to hear but also dreading at the same time. “You need to come inside! It’s supposed to rain tonight!”

Reluctantly, Shinji slows to a stop in front of where Sawamura is standing. “Shut up. I was going to go in soon anyways.” he says walking towards the dorm.

Shinji doesn’t want to talk to Sawamura when he’s this pissed off and upset. Even just the sight of him makes Shinji’s stomach turn. Stupid stupid stupid. That’s how he feels right now. Stupid for hoping and dreaming and wanting.

He needs to get Sawamura off his back.

But Sawamura follows quickly behind. “Are you going to eat dinner? I didn’t see you in the cafeteria and-”

“CAN YOU JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!” Shinji shouts, turning on his heel to look back at Sawamura. “I DON’T WANT YOU BOTHERING ME ANYMORE!”

Shinji regrets the words as soon as they come out of his mouth. They taste bitter and make his head spin. He feels like he’s going to be sick.

Sawamura’s face falls immediately. “You don’t mean that. Kanemaru, please.”

That last part breaks something in Shinji. It’s his fucking name and it makes him feel like shit. This is so stupid

“I’m going to take a bath.” He says instead of the millions of apologies that threaten to spill out if he continues looking at Sawamura’s broken expression. “Don’t follow me.”

After his bath and a few too many snacks from the vending machine, Shinji goes back to his room and lays in the middle of the floor face down with his limbs splayed out like a starfish, not caring if Seto finally realizes his senpai is a pathetic loser.

As Shinji starts to doze off a familiar knock knock knock resounds from the door.

“Seto don’t you dare open that d-” Shinji starts, but he’s too late. The kid has already leapt to his feet and swung the door wide open before Shinji can finish his sentence.

“Young Seto! I heard the wolf boy was waiting for you in the cafeteria. You should go see what he wants!” Sawamura says earnestly, but Shinji can hear the lie in his voice. Everyone thinks Sawamura is too stupid to lie and Shinji knows that Sawamura knows that and takes it to his advantage.

“Oh? Uh! Thanks Sawamura-senpai! I’ll go see him now.” Seto replies, putting on his shoes and running out of the room with a slam of the door.

Shinji turns his head and groans. So much for being left alone. Maybe if he ignores the pitcher he’ll get the hint and leave.

“Kanemaru? Sweetheart?” Sawamura calls from where he’s standing by the doorway. “Are you okay?”

The way he says it breaks all of Shinji’s resolve. He can’t keep it in to save his life.

“No.” Shinji starts, getting up off the floor and backing himself against the wall. He’s speaking honestly for maybe the first time all week. “I’m not okay. And you don’t get to ‘sweetheart’ me, not when you’ve been avoiding me for days.” He can feel the white-hot tears building up in the back of his eyes. God, he just should’ve stayed in bed instead of getting up this morning, at least then he wouldn’t have to feel like this.

Sawamura walks towards him with his hands outreached as if he’s trying to placate a wild animal. “I’m sorry. Really. Can we talk about it?” he says gently.

“Whatever excuse you have better be good.” Shinji sniffles, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand. He hates the way crying feels. Hates the way it makes him feel weak and pathetic and stupid

Sawamura spent so much time showering Shinji with affection and then just withdrew without a word or a fight or anything. As if Shinji wasn’t worth his time anymore. Thinking about it makes him choke out a sob that he quickly tries to cover by bringing his fist to his mouth.

Sawamura’s eyes widen at the sound. “Baby, don’t cry.” he pleads, running over to wrap his arms around Shinji’s shoulders. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

“Why? Why did you ignore me?” Shinji asks, tears rolling down his cheeks and into Sawamura’s shirt despite his best efforts to keep them in. “I thought we were fine. You just stopped talking to me after you got better.”

Sawamura steps back a little and brings his hands down to Shinji’s torso, rubbing up and down his sides. “When I woke up to you in my bed, I was so happy it scared me.” he confesses, so earnestly that it makes Shinji’s breath hitch. “I was scared I was starting something I couldn’t take back.”

Shinji’s brows furrow at that. “What are you saying?” he demands, wiping away his tears. This isn’t a time for reading behind the lines. He needs to know if Sawamura means what he thinks he means or if this is all some crazy dream.

Sawamura chews on his bottom lip, thinking.

“Tell me.” Shinji begs. “Or I’ll leave.” It’s an empty threat but it’s all he has.

Sawamura grips his sides firmly. Refusing to let Shinji even think about leaving. “I like you. I think I’ve liked you for a while.” he confesses. “The pet names, crowding into your space, being around you all the time. That was my way of showing it.”

Shinji’s face flushes red at the blatant confession. “Are you dumb? Like actually?” he asks incredulously.

“No?” Sawamura frowns, fiddling with the hem of Shinji’s shirt. “Why do you ask?”

“BECAUSE YOU JUST SAID YOU LIKE ME!” Shinji yells before slapping his palm over his mouth. “I mean- Why would you like me of all people?” he says quickly.

“Why wouldn’t I? I mean you care about me and we have similar interests and I think you’re pretty cute- Ow! Why’d you hit me?”

“Because you’re an idiot!” Shinji scolds. There’s no way Sawamura is crazy enough to like Shinji. The same Shinji who yells at him and whacks him on the head for being stupid. It made sense for Shinji to like Sawamura who is sweet and kind and good but not the other way around.

Sawamura pouts down at where he’s been playing with Shinji’s top. “Don’t call me stupid for having feelings for you. I meant everything I said. I like you. A lot.” he whispers, stepping closer and nosing at Shinji’s neck.

Shinji sniffles pathetically, overwhelmed by Sawamura’s words. “Then how could you ignore me so easily?” he asks, wrapping his arms around Sawamura’s shoulders in a loose hug.

“I didn’t mean it.” Sawamura says as he slides his hands up Shinji’s t-shirt. Sawamura’s hands are so warm that it makes Shinji's stiff shoulders slump instantly as he relaxes against Sawamura’s body.

“Ignoring you was the worst thing I’ve ever done.” Sawamura groans into Shinji’s neck, running his hands over the hard planes of his abdomen.

“Well don’t do it ever again.” Shinji croaks while Sawamura nuzzles his nose against his jaw. “My heart can’t handle it if you ignore me like that in the future.”

“I’m sorry baby.” Sawamura mumbles as he mouths at Shinji’s neck. “God it was so hard.” he says, placing open mouthed kisses on every bit of skin that he can reach. “Trying not to touch you.”

“It sure didn’t seem like it.” Shinji replies with contempt, thinking of how Sawamura walked right past him when he greeted him this morning.

At Shinji’s insolence, Sawamura bites down on his collarbone. Hard. “Be good.” he warns before worrying his teeth into Shinji’s skin and sucking gently.

Shinji can feel his knees buckle slightly both at the command and the way Sawamura continues to work his mouth over his skin. Luckily he has the wall behind him to brace himself against. He never thought he’d be into this. The biting and the sucking and the warm mouth all over him. But if it’s Sawamura he’d probably be into anything.

“Kiss me. Please.” Shinji whines. The pitcher’s current ministrations are simultaneously too much and not enough.

In a flash, Sawamura’s mouth is on his, Warm and wet and eager. The kiss is frantic as Shinji tries to take and take and take . This is everything he's been thinking about for weeks. But Sawamura doesn’t let Shinji take the lead as he refuses to follow his pace, forcing Shinji to slow down and let a low whine escape from his lips.

Sawamura hums in response as he takes advantage of Shinji’s pliance and brings one of his hands up to cup Shinji’s jaw and tilt his head so it’s just right . Bringing his urgent pace to something slower and more languid. He brings his other hand up to the nape of Shinji’s neck and scrapes his well manicured fingernails at the base of Shinji’s skull, eliciting a soft groan that gives Sawamura an opening to slide his tongue against Shinji’s.

Shinji takes the opportunity to lightly suck on Sawamura’s tongue before breaking the kiss to breathe. “I like you too.” He says breathlessly.

Sawamura lets out a chuckle as he cups the back of Shinji’s neck with his hands. “Of course you do, baby- Ow! Stop hitting me!”

“That was for being an egotistical jerk!” Shinji scowls. “I was telling you about my feelings and you made it about you!”

Instead of sincerely apologizing like he should, Sawamura just laughs and rubs the tip of his nose against Shinji’s. “You like me like this.” he teases.

Shinji sighs deeply. “Yeah. I guess I do. But you’re going to have to kiss me for every time you ignored me or else we can’t go out.”

“Deal! I’ll start now!” Sawamura says before capturing Shinji’s lips in another kiss.
