Work Text:
This is it. Bdubs is done.
He is done with everything.
He is going to kill himself.
Bdubs ties a rope to the rafters in his basement.
He stands on a chair, about to put the nose around his neck and finally be gone when the door bursts open.
It’s Etho.

Etho is standing in his base, and something just feels off.
He takes a sip from his cup of tea, trying to figure out what it is.
Something he can’t explain, tells him to go see what Bdubs is doing.
Something tells him something is wrong with Bdubs.

“Bdubs, Please don't.” he says, panting slightly, having run the entire way through Bdubs base looking for him.
Bdubs brakes at the sight of his friend, silent ears start to slide down his face as he shakily gets off the chair. Etho sprints over, helping him get down.
“D-do you want to talk about?” Etho asks, as Bdubs sits, hesitantly sitting next to him.
Silence fill the room for a few minutes before Bdubs talks, “I want to kill myself.” he says, “I don’t want to be alive anymore. You guys would be better off anyway.” he says, pulling his knees up to his chest, setting his chin on his knees, “I only ruin things, and make problems worse.”
Etho takes a deep breath, “you don’t know this.” Etho says, “nobody does, but if you weren’t around, I’d be long dead.” he says lowering his mask, so it rests around his neck.
Bdubs turns to look at Etho, who has a faraway, sad look in his eyes, “what do you mean?” Bdubs says, voice quavering.
“You probably don’t even remember, it was a normal day for you.” Etho says, he criss crosses his legs, playing with the lace of his boot, “I was done too. I was going to ill myself that night.” he says, “I was writing a message on a letter for you guys to read when I was gone.” he continues, “the usual, I’m sorry’s.” Etho sticks his tongue out, wetting his lips before he continues, “I had everything ready, and I was going to do it and nothing could change my mind.”
“But you didn't follow through.” Budbs says, “you're still here.”
“Yeah. I am.” Etho says, his fox ears dropping, “and it’s all because of you.” he says, turning to Bdubs, “you came to my base, and asked if I wanted to go on a picnic with you.” He said, “I denied going, but you insisted, saying you even made my favorite sandwich.” Etho continues, “I ended up going with you, we had lunch, then you asked if I wanted to go horseback riding, and I said yes.”
“I remember that day.” Bdubs says, the memory of Etho laughing as they rode, a smile on his face the entire time, “you looked so happy.”
“I was.” Etho says, “We ended the day, sleeping on top of each other on your couch.” He says, “When I woke up in the morning I did not want to die anymore, I wanted to live with the people who I love, and who love me.”
“I did not know that.” Bdubs says, looking away from Etho, and at the far wall.
“Nobody does.” Etho says, “sometimes, I get the same feeling I had, and want to end it, but then I see you smile, hear your voice, and remember I have something, someone to live for.”
“Etho, I don’t know what to do.” Bdubs says.
“How about we talk to Xisuma. You can go to therapy, and then you can see where we go from there.” Etho says.
“Can- Will you go with me?” Bdubs asks.
“Of course.” Etho says, wrapping the shorter man into a hug, “Of course.”
