Chapter 1: Lazarus Rising Times Two

Chapter Text

Timeline:
Season 4 Episode 1 - Lazarus Rising

The stiff hand moved, a little at first then it tightened and released on repeat, shortly followed by raspy breaths.

Then the whole body moved. Wren Winchester's brown eyes shot open, her body lurching forward, hands flailing around. Her hand eventually fell on her throat, fingers tracing the thin white scar that now resided there.

Her heavy breath caught, full sobs racking her form as she patted around at the dirt, scrambling about. Hot wet tears fell onto the leaves below.

"Dad?! Dad where are you, please?!" She sobbed, curling up in on herself, tucking her knees into her chest.

When no answer came she fought to regain control of her breathing. She furiously wiped at her eyes and scrambled up, looking around the woods she had found herself in.

"Wren Winchester. My name is Castiel. I raised you from hell." She didn't know where the voice came from and to be honest, she didn't know if she cared.

Because what was it going to do, send her to hell. If it was a trick, she was already there. She gave her life up at 17 for her dad. A deal with a demon.

She pulled herself together and fixed her hair."Thank you." Her voice now sounded much more calm. She still felt shaky but there was no need in this 'Castiel' knowing that.

"I'll show you to your brother." The voice echoed.

As the hand reached from the dirt another one grabbed onto it and hauled the man out of the grave.

She smiled and placed her hands on her hips as the man looked up.

"Hello Dean, it's been a while. Have fun in hell?" She looked at her younger brother. Now (she supposed) much older than her.

"Wren? What? I thought you were dead." A look of horror spread across Dean's face.

"I thought you were too but I just hauled you from your grave. Question is, who hauled you from Hell in the first place little brother?" Wren fixed her eyes on her brothers. He looked at her before pushing forward.

"Come on I'm hungry as fuck."

"I've been gone for what, a decade and the first thing you say to me is 'come on I'm hungry as fuck'. You have not changed."

Dean shrugged and pushed past her, instead picking his path to a nearby shop. Seemingly abandoned.

Dean broke into the shop and the two grabbed food and drinks. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Dean smirk as he picked up a magazine labeled 'Bust Asian Beauties' and put it into his bag.

"Hey Wren, how come you still look 17?" Dean avoided her eyes as he spoke.

"Good question." She said. Her head whipped around suddenly as the TV started blaring.

She looked up to the ceiling and frowned at the familiar distorted voice. "Castiel?" She asked. She looked to her left and spotted her brother, crouched on the floor, grasping at his ears. She rushed over to Dean, failing spectacularly at helping.

She grabbed a cloth and dabbed at his bleeding ears. "Hey it's okay." She soothed as she looked down at him.

After a while she paused, she looked at the door as if in thought before checking over her brother as if she had made her decision.

"Come on, we need to get out of here."

Wren leaned in the side of the building, fixing her braids as she waited for Dean to make his calls. Dean came marching out of the phone booth and went into a dusty car.

She got into the passenger seat and fiddled with her hands as Dean drove to their destination. She soon realised they were at Bobby's.

Dean went ahead inside, leaving Wren outside to stew in her own anxiety.

When she heard fighting she sighed, pushed her anxiety away and entered the house.

"Staring the party without me? How cruel boys." Wren grinned and picked up the knife to her right.

She laughed even more when she saw the signs of holy water on Deans face.

"Wren?" Bobby said in utter disbelief. "Who ever you are don't you dare take on her form! Let her rest in peace god damn it!"

"I was mauled to death. I wouldn't exactly call that resting in peace but I appreciate the thought. Thank you Bobby." She chuckled, picking up a glass of water and chugging it down. "Holy water, nice touch."

She took a silver knife Bobby handed to her and cut her arm, demonstrating she was safe.

"One of you needs to tell me what the fuck I've missed." Wren breathed finally allowing anxiety to slip into her voice.

Timeline:
Just after season 5 episode 22 - Swan Song

Wren washed the blood off her hands, it was only due to the water running clear that she knew they were clean. Her stained red hands told a different story. A lie she knew not to believe.

She turned her attention to her face, rubbing off the dried blood. Her hands shakily grabbed at her med kit and started the gruelling process of cleaning, wrapping and where necessary, stitching her wounds.

She eventually stumbled out of the bathroom 30 minutes later. Her eyes red and puffy but rid of the blood and grime.

She looked around the motel to only see Bobby and Cass left in the room. Where did Dean go?

Bobby looked at the ground and sighed. That was not a good sign. Something in Wren's gut sank far further than she could have ever thought possible.

"Where's Dean?" Castiel and Bobby looked at each other. Wren felt her anger rise. What were they hiding from her? Her brother just went to hell and they were hiding stuff from her?! "Where is Dean?" She repeated firmly, a scowl now formed on her features.

"He's... he's gone. He left approximately 12 minutes ago." Cass said in his usual blunt tone. Wren managed to spot a flash of regret on the angels face.

"What?" Wren responded shakily. "So. You're saying that he just left. Just like that. He left me?" She responded sharply.

"Look, kiddo-" Wren shook her head, cutting Bobby off and walking over to her laptop. "Wren what are you doing?"

"Research."

Her eyes scanned through article after article until she eyes eventually landed on an interesting piece of lore she had never heard of before.

Something called the 'Lazarus Pit' that could bring someone back to life. As much as the whole thing didn't seem like a good plan, Wren was desperate.

She was grasping at straws. But she would do anything to get Sam back. Her little brother- no. Her big brother back.

"Castiel, would you please take me to Gotham City? I think I have a lead.”
