What’s the date again?

Summary:

“Oh, Daniel. Don’t tell me ye don’t know what day is it,” Jack continued with his accent.

“Saturday?”

“The date.”

“The 19th of September?”

Notes:

Ok, so I wrote this AGES ago and forgot to post it yesterday.. so here it is, a day late. Sorry if it lacks sense, it’s just a silly little fic. And sorry for the horrible writing on the pirate thing.

Work Text:

Of course SG-1 was hiding in a small cave on a planet absolutely pouring with rain, hiding from whatever the hell those animals that started chasing them were. They’d been there all night, Jack had managed to start up a nice campfire, Sam and Daniel DIY’ed a washing line and hung their wet clothes up over the fire, and Teal’c had sorted food out.

But now, in the cold damp morning of this treacherous planet the fire was gone, food eaten, and clothes slightly dryer. They of course had changed into their spares, but they had to brave the rain at some point or another so they needed the clothes they came in to be dry.

The cave they were in was small, big enough for all of them to sit around a fire but not quite big enough for all of them to be able to stretch out while sleeping. Which is how Sam woke up right next to Jack, his arm slung around her stomach loosely. She didn’t remember it happening, he probably did in his sleep without realising. She had been shivering in her sleep from the coldness of the night, so maybe he self consciously put his arm around her in an attempt to warm her up. Which it did do, but eventually she had to move, which also woke him up.

Despite the previous day and the night they’d had, they didn’t have much trouble sleeping. Daniel had around six hours, Teal’c four as he had been on watch most the night, and Sam and Jack the same 5 and a half hours. Pretty decent for off-world.

This morning Daniel had started up the fire again, and they were all sitting around it eating their breakfast.

Jack tossed his MRE packet at one of the packs and glanced at his watch, 0500, it read. He then glanced over at the entrance to the cave, seeing the rain still pouring outside. Damn.

“Still raining out there,” Jack muttered.

“We might just have to brave it, sir. I don’t think it’s going to stop any time soon.” Sam replied, glancing up at the half wet clothes that still hung above the now lit fire.

Jack sighed, “I really hate the rain on other planets,”

“Don’t we all,” Daniel agreed, looking at his MRE with slight disgust.

“Indeed.” Teal’c added.

“Well mateys,” Jack started with a pirate-ish accent, “me thinks when we get ourgh behinds back to the SGC that yer might be a wee bit wet.”

Sam and Daniel just looked at him in utter confusion, while Teal’c looked concerned.

“What?” Daniel finally said,

“Oh, Daniel. Don’t tell me ye don’t know what day is it,” Jack continued with his accent,

“Saturday?”

“The date.”

“The 19th of September?”

Jack nodded, continuing his terrible accent, “Exactly me laddie!”

Daniel’s mouth was open for a second in confusement, “What’s so special about the 19th of September..?”

Jack's face dropped, “it’s national talk like a pirate day, Daniel. ” He said, almost hurt.

“Of–course it is.” Daniel said slowly, looking over at Sam who was suppressing a smile.

“And, I expect at least one ‘Arhh’ out of all of you at some point today.” He pointed at them all, “or, me might has to choose one of yer to walk the plank,” He continued his accent from before.

“Is Colonel O’Neill feeling alright?” Teal’c asked Sam quietly.

“Yeah, I’ll explain later.” She said, barely holding in her laugh, and put a hand on his arm briefly.

“Savvy?” Jack continued,

“Aye, sir.” Sam was smiling fully now.

“Oh gosh Sam, don’t humour him.” Daniel said quickly.

Sam laughed a little and looked down at her boots, seeing that one of her laces was loose.

Daniel sighed and stood up, “I’m gonna pack away some of the night stuff.” Though he stood there for 2 consecutive minutes, staring at the water pouring down on the outside of the entrance of the cave.

“Get a move on matey,” Sam snarked, “You… ummm. Scurvy scallywag.”

“Aye aye,” Daniel plodded off to where they had set up their stuff for the night prior.

“Me thinks that we should get a move on, if anythin’ that weathers only gonna get worse.” Jack's accent was getting better, but still poor.

“Arhh you sure, sir?” Sam replied.

“Well played, Carter.” He nodded and smiled at her, he knew he’d get it out of her.

“I still do not understand the meaning of the change in the way you are speaking.” Teal’c was confused.

“Have you heard of pirates?” Jack asked as he stood up and started checking to see if their clothes were dry.

“I do not believe so, O’Neill.”

“Daniel,” he raised his voice slightly, “you need to find T a book on pirates,”

Daniel looked up from the stuff he was shoving in his pack, deciding to play along. “Aye aye Cap— Colonel,” he squinted his eyes and tilted his head slightly.

Jack nodded, “Gettin’ better, me heartie.”

Sam's eyes shut briefly as she attempted not to laugh, redoing the lace on her boot when she opened them again.

“Right, I think we should make a run for the gate while the rain isn’t as heavy,” Jack pulled their clothes off the makeshift line and passed his and Sam’s to her, chucking Daniel’s at him and Teal’c’s on his pack that was right next to him.

Sam had both hers and Jack’s packs next to her, so she put his clothes away for him. As well as various other bits that just needed to be packed away.

“Good idea, sir.” She replied, getting to her feet.

“Arhh you certain that’s a good idea, Jack?” Daniel commented as he walked over with his pack and all their sleep stuff ready to go in various different bags.

“Two down, one to go” he stated, giving Teal’c a pointed look. “And yes, if we run straight from here to the Stargate while the rain has died down we shouldn’t get too wet.”

“Should we not wait for the rain to stop completely?” Teal’c questioned.

“I don’t think it’s going to completely stop any time soon,” Sam added.

“Very well.” Teal’c nodded, and picked up his now full pack.

Jack made sure they had everything, including every last empty MRE packet. He slung his pack on his back, everyone else following suit and doing the same. He picked up his P90 carefully, then put the strap over his head and onto his shoulders, leaving his P90 dangling in front of him. He turned round to Sam, who was standing closer than he thought.

“Carter, got everything?”

“Yes sir, even my empty MRE packet.” She smiled at him.

The side of his lips turned up slightly. Her smile could make the sun shine brighter, which is actually just what they need right about now.

Jack didn’t think her smiling would actually make the sun brighter, but he would still try to make smile and laugh as much as he could on their trek back to the Stargate. Even if it made the weather worse, it would be worth it to see Sam Carter smile.
