This wasn’t the first time Amelia had to go on long trips. Being a time traveler and a detective, she would often travel across the multiverse, solving mysteries and causing a ruckus everywhere she went.
But this time it was a bit different. How long this trip would be isn’t something she was sure of yet, it could be months, even years.
She already had everything packed, all her documents, all her trinkets and all the gifts she’s received from all her gen mates, all in one suitcase.
“Do you really have to go?” Gura asked, grabbing the corner of her coat.
“I mean you’re a time traveler, can’t you just like…I dunno have your future self, or like other versions of yourself do it? Do… you really have to go?” Tears running down Gura’s cheeks, Amelia reached out to her, cupping her face and rubbing the tears away with her thumb.
“Sorry, urgent business.” She says scratching the back of her head. “Besides it’s not like I’m gonna be gone forever, I’ll visit when I have the time. So c’mon stop crying, you know I like it when you smile the most.” She says and hugs her. Gura immediately wrapped her arms around Amelia as tight as she could, drenching her clothes with her tears, occasionally letting out hiccups.
Amelia chuckled and rubbed her back as she looked over to her other gen mates.
Kiara walked up next with tears welling in her eyes. “You…you better come visit at least once a year! Or I’m gonna go find you myself!”
Calli chuckled and put her hand on Kiara’s shoulder. “So how exactly are you doing that?”
“I don’t know! But I will if I need to!” Calli and Amelia looked at each other and laughed.
“We’ll really miss you Watson. You better be safe out there, I don’t want our next meeting to be me picking you up to go to the underworld.” She says while Kiara is still rambling on how she’ll convince Kronii to take her to Amelia.
“Don’t worry, I’m not your average girl, you ain’t gonna take me out that easy.” She chuckles as she gives the reaper a fist bump.
Amelia looks over at the last person, who hasn’t said anything yet. Ina was staring at the ground, holding in her tears as much as she could.
Amelia smiled and held her right arm out, still holding Gura in her left. “C’mon Ina bring it in.”
Ina slowly walked over and hugged her tighter than she had ever done. “I’ll miss you Ame.”
“Me too, I’ll really miss all of you.” Amelia tightened her grip, also calling Calli and Kiara over for a group hug. Amelia loved the warmth of all four of them, she wished this could never end, but knew that couldn’t happen.
As they all let go, Gura smiled with the smile Amelia always loved, and would always try to pull out of her.
“I love you guys… I’ll be seeing you guys later then…”
She said taking her pocket watch out, setting her destination. But before she left she took one last glance at the four of them.
Before she disappeared for good, she waved her open arm as much as she could. “You guys better not fuck anything up while I’m gone! I don’t wanna be coming back to a post-apocalyptic world!”
Gura sticking her tongue out, Kiara laughing and waving, Calli giving a thumbs up, Ina nodding, they all gave Amelia a reassuring feeling. This isn’t the end of their story.
