Chapter Text
Phil stretched, hiking the backpack over his shoulders. It was early, early enough that no one else was awake, not even Fit. Phil was going to explore, gather supplies. His main goals were ores, weapons, and enderpearls. He needs them to make all the warpstones. And once the warpstones have been made, Phil can make that long ass trip to whatever ‘rebel base ’ the book mentioned. The sooner he gets those people on his side, hopefully the more information he can get about the federation.
The Void God had some sort of vendetta against The Federation, not something he would have expected from a Mechanics God who lived in the void, and barely interacted. Hell, Phil’s only met the God once, and that was ages ago, when he first became the Angel Of Death and Kristen’s Husband. And gods wasn’t that a blast from the past. He hasn’t thought about that first meeting with all the gods in ages.
Shaking his head, Phil pulled out his paraglider. He was going to follow the train tracks until they ended and then keep going, hopefully to find something good. Phil shifted, getting used to the weight of the backpack. He was trying out the old strategy he used for a while, hiding his wings under the backpack.
It was going to mess with his balance for awhile, until he could get used to it again, but it was honestly more risky to have them out, especially since the most they could do in a fight right now was shock his opponents when he spread them out to their full length suddenly. Phil jumped off the wall and glided toward the train station. He started to walk on the train tracks, keeping an eye out. But he knew that no trains would be coming.
The elytrian hopped off the bridge, and dove into the water, before pulling out a boat. He’s just exploring now, trying to get things to be prepared for whatever the island will throw at him. But don’t get too greedy , his mind whispered and Phil had to agree. It was a delicate balance now. Gathering enough materials to properly provide for himself, the eggs, and Missa, but also not trying to become so greedy he attracts Him .
So Phil needed to be careful. Even if signs of Him didn’t start showing up until after the Eggs went missing (which was a train of thought Phil wasn't going to go down), he didn’t want to risk it. Phil sighed and moved the boat toward some land, deciding now was a good time as ever to get out and explore on foot.
God he missed the grappling squok. Phil gathered some wood and saplings, placing them in his backpack. He’ll probably need to get that backpack inception upgrade soon, but that will require enderpearls, just like everything else. He also hopes to find some avocados, or maybe some other fruit so he can make the trees.
Chayanne hasn’t expressed his love for cooking yet, which is fair, it’s only been a few days, but Phil was getting prepared. Speaking of his egg, he was planning on starting training with the kid today, after his little exploration. Nothing big, just the basics. Don’t point to the sword at yourself, swing carefully, all that fun stuff. Same process he did Before. Which means Chayanne will want to skip to the cool stuff, but Phil knows that he can hammer home the importance of the basics.
The elytrian remembered how excited Tom was to start learning to fight. The younger had tried using Techno’s custom made sword, and that didn’t end well. Thankfully, the blonde was determined to learn. Tom isn’t the greatest fighter in the world, but he can hold his own against a lot of opponents. Which was how he was able to even be considered for a spot in MCC. God he missed Tom.
Phil had tried to ignore the amount he missed the blonde while on the island. Before. At first it was the excuse that the trip was only supposed to be two weeks. He won't miss him for long, then it was the eggs that needed help, Tom would understand, and then it was because Toby was there with Tom and the two of them could get through a lot together. They didn’t need him.
But then Toby showed up on the island. Phil acted normally, when he found him, but the moment everyone went to bed, Phil panicked. His kid was alone, and probably panicking. Phil sighed. He needs to focus. Figure out about this island, and get back. Introduce Chayanne and Tallulah to Tom as his younger siblings. He’d probably be ecstatic to not be the youngest.
Phil entered a plains area next to a mountain, and his eyes locked onto a floating airship. “Oh shit!” Phil laughs. Those have good loo-Resources. Not loot, Resources. But anyway, As for how he’s gonna get up there…
“Towering it is.” He pulls out two stacks of dirt and starts towering. Once the towering was done, he was at a good height to glide down. Equipping his sword, he was ready. This ship was a bit op for such an early time on the island, but that was fine. Something nagged at Phil, but he couldn’t put a finger on what was wrong. He’ll just have to play it extra carefully.
Landing, Phil pulls out his shield as well, and starts working.
Carefully destroying spawners, grabbing things, blocking himself up to put it into his backpack, before repeating. All while in the back of his mind, he chanted to himself. Don’t get greedy, don’t get greedy.
Phil sighs, and turns back to the chest. “Holy shit!” Phil gasps, and chuckles. A diamond chestplate. Not that he could wear it, Diamonds weren’t ‘unlocked’ until the brazilians arrived. Fit was on by now and messaged him asking if he could join, but Phil just replied that the place he was looting was empty now, and was way too dangerous. He went down a level, and avoided the wither skeletons riding hoglins. Grab the resources, and yep. He starts to grab some wood when-
Fwsih!
Fwish!
Phil jolts, turning toward the sound of fireworks. “What was that?” Someone was here. He backed up toward the very tip of the ship, sword drawn. “Who’s there?” He doesn’t see anything, but something feels off. It also feels familiar. He hears the grunts and groans of the hoglins, and glances around.
Then he sees it.
On the top of the ship, looking down at him…
Was a Code.
Phil immediately tenses. It looked almost player-like, except for the glowing green lines in it, reminding Phil of a hacker’s screen, and wore an elytra. It didn’t look like the Codes he used to see, but Phil could tell. But why was it here? He stared at it, and it pulled up a bow. “Ok, NOPE!” Phil grabs his paraglider and hops off the ship, gliding toward the ground.
When he landed, Phil looked around. He didn't see it. Was it gone? That was weird. He glanced at his map and cursed. He could see a name of binary numbers heading towards his name. Chasing him. “Fuck!” He turned and ran, trying to remember which way he had gone to get here.
He started north, and watched the map diligently as he ran, only to pause when a death message appeared on screen.
01101100 is bleeding. 01101100 fell from a high place.
Phil burst out laughing. Fucking Code doens’t know how to use an elytra? “Hah!” He pauses, and heads back toward the name. The codes were supposed to be good, normally. At least according to the book. If Phil helped it, maybe it wouldn’t attack the eggs? But when he arrived back, there was no body.
Interesting. Sighing, Phil pulled up his communicator and opened the marker for the island. “Better head back then.” He said to himself. He had enough for now, so that was good. As he followed the marker, Phil couldn't help but wonder. Why was the code here? Now? And why did it look like that? It didn’t even make the sky change to night. Was it an early version of the code? That could be it.
But as for why the code was here…Phil paused as he remembered. Way back in the beginning, Phil had done this. He had gone to this specific airship. It happened so long ago….But that was right. Phil was the first one to see the Code.
Ok think. What happened after that? He…went home…and was attacked again. And then it dropped off a book and…Fuck he needed to see the book. Phil looked around, before blocking himself in. Placing a block over his head and putting down a torch, he pulled out the book.
The Code’s First Appearance
On Day 15, You encountered a mysterious entity named "01101100" (lowercase L). The encounter happened after looting an airship and discovering diamond armor. Diamond armor was considered contraband at this time as you were restricted to iron armor at best. You noticed The Code Entity flying and watching you and initially fled from it. The Code Entity pursued and attacked you but eventually perished due to fall damage. While traveling on a boat near the Island Bridge, you were again pursued by The Entity.
You later rendezvoused with Fit to share his experience near the abandoned buildings around the first hole of the wall, though immediately The Code Entity appeared and attacked them, ultimately being defeated by Fit with a bomb. Later in the day, you confronted the entity at Fit's Base, who was threatening Ramon. The Code Entity gave you a book containing the coordinates "2530 1893 67." These coordinates led you to a mysterious computer outside of Luzus house .
Phil frowned. Ok. Great. That’s right, the Codes and Luzu were connected somehow. Come to think of it, they never really got a reason as to why Arin even existed or the link with the codes. To be fair, Luzu was an AI, at least that was the general consensus, so that definitely had something to do with it. Phil wasn’t able to meet Arin when they first showed up in Luzu’s body, having totally forgotten about it until it was too late and Arin had gone to bed.
Phil sighed. Ok. So he needs to be prepared for the Code to attack him again on his way back. This Code sounded violent, but Phil will have to see. He removed the blocks around him and put the book away. Better start heading back then.
Phil was rowing back, after a concerned message from Fit, Phil confirmed that no, it wasn’t Chayanne dying, just someone sketchy and that Fit should keep an eye out and to meet up. That will probably lead to the same events happening as before, but this time, Phil is ready. If the Code gets distracted by Fit again, Phil can probably get some info on why it looks like it does and not how it does later.
Before, Phil didn’t know what that thing was. But now Phil does. He’ll be able to spot the differences. He’ll notice what he does and then write it down in the book later. He doesn’t want to show off the book to Fit yet. Or ever. Phil hears a splash and looks up at the bridge.
“Oh fuck off!”
There it is again. “Don’t you have something better to do?” He says, rowing past the arrows being shot at him. God this thing had terrible aim. “Stop! Stop goddammit!” He served a bit in the boat, as the code crouched and shot at him. Fucking asshole.
He starts rowing toward the main part of the island, and glances at his map. Yep, it’s following him. “I can fucking see you circling me! Jesus christ!” It lands to start shooting at him, but he rows past as it tries. God it’s a shit shot. How does this become the fucking Code monester that killed Bobby? He watches as it lands on the bridge and starts throwing bombs. “Oh great! Fuck off!”
He paddles underneath the bridge a few times, and watches as the Code jumps from the bridge to start flying at him, sword in hand. Shit. He turns the boat and hears it take damage from flying into the wall.
“Not used to flying eh?” He taunts, rowing away. The faster he gets to land the faster he can get to Fit and kill this thing. He laughs a bit nervously, keeping his eye on the map and behind him, while also making sure not to crash into land. He checks his map and-
“STOP!” He shouts, as it tries to attack from under the water. Jesus. He starts to serpentine with the boat, and god this was fucking stressful. There’s land off to his side, but that probably wasn’t going to do good, the water was slowing the Code down. So he kept rowing, serpentining and paddling his way toward the shore, all while arrows and the Code tried to attack.
Last time, he had gone on land, hadn’t he. He tried to talk to it. That wasn’t going to work. The Code wanted to fight, and Phil was not ready to fight. It was less powerful now, but it still had a netherite sword and an elytra. He only had unenchanted iron armor. He cursed as an arrow grazed his arm, the one with the torn sleeve, enough to draw blood.
“Fuck!” He says, but keeps rowing. Almost there. It dives past him, and Phil flinches. “FUCK OFF!” It rises in front of him and Phil punches it, causing it to flinch and for Phil to curse as his communicator lights up with an egg adoption paper.
“Shit! Fuck, you’re an egg?!” He didn’t mean for it to slip out, but just like last time, it did. Right, right, that was his theory, wasn’t it. That the Codes were dead eggs. Or failed attempts at eggs? Not the time! It flinched and Phil couldn’t help but frown. “Are you-” Before he could finish that sentence, it swung with its sword and Phil leaned back to avoid it. Not the time. Rowing around it, he kept an eye on the communicator as it went back to the map.
Phil saw it fly away, away from him. That must’ve shocked it. Phil grins as Foolish’s dragon comes into view. He lands on the beach next to it and sighs. “Jesus christ…” He takes the boat and looks at the map. Fit's near spawn, so better meet up with him.
“Oi! Phil!” The bald man says, running up to him.
Phil smiled. “Hey mate. You won’t believe the day I just had.” Fit grinned. “I saw! What was that thing in chat? With the numbers?” Phil frowns. “I don’t know. It’s…something alright. It’s been trying to attack me since I got those diamond things.” Fit nods, and then grins. “So, diamonds, eh? How’d you get them?”
Phil chuckled and the anarchist leaned against an abandoned building. “It was a cracked dungeon dude it-”
TWANG!
An arrow embedded itself into the wall next to Fit’s left arm and Phil cursed as Fit went to attention. “The fuck?!” It starts shooting from another building, standing on the roof. “The fuck is that thing?!” It faces Phil and starts shooting arrows, which either go wide or Phil dodges. “That’s the fucking c-thing! Watch out!”
Fit nods and dodges an arrow. “It’s got an elytra?! How?!” Phil shrugs as the Code takes another pot shot at Phil. He backs up, and then trips. Fuck his balance! He hears a firework go off and the code lands on top of him before Phil can get up. Fuck his fucking balance! “Phil!” Fit shouts, as it swings its sword.
The hit lands and Phil hisses and it slices into the armor, taking damage. “Hey! FUck off!” Fit swings his sword at the code, and it gets off Phil at the attack. Phil gets up, and pulls out his bow, hitting it. The Code flies back onto the top of the old building and tosses bombs at Phil and Fit. “Jesus fuck!”
Fit grabs his bombs and starts throwing them, but the Code doesn’t falter, throwing bombs at Phil. Is it locked onto him? That didn’t happen last time. He pulls up his shield and blocks the explosions that hit, until it goes down.
“Fuck yeah! Take that asshole!” Fit shouts, as the downing message pops up in chat. Phil lets out a sigh of relief and sits on the ground. “Phil! You okay?” Phil nods, slightly winded. “Yeah, I’m fine.” Fit frowns.
“It had a netherite sword and swung at you point black, you sure you’re ok?” Phil nods. “Yeah, the armor did most of the help, and I’m already regening. I’m fine mate.” FIt nodded, but didn’t look convinced. At least the cut from the arrow has healed too. Fit sighed. “Ok, so what the fuck was that?!”
Phil shrugged. “Hell if I know, it just showed up and attacked me. Not sure if it’s friendly.” Fit scoffed, holding out a hand to Phil. The elytrian takes it and stands up. “Definitely not friendly. It tried to fucking kill you!” Phil smiled. “And you saved me, my bald knight in shining armor.” Fit scoffed.
“You’re too good to me Phil, too good to me.” Phil dusts himself off and looks back at Fit. “By the way, Why’d you trip? Your old man bones mess up?” Phil rolled his eyes and shook his head “Nope. I’m…Trying something new, with my wings.” He turns and shows the backpack. Fit widens his eyes, and nods. “Got it. So it messed with the balance?” Phil nodded. “Yeah. Anyway, how have you been? Taking care of your egg?”
Fit nods. “Yep. Ramon’s surviving.” The bald man pauses. “By the way, have you seen my base yet? I’ve seen yours, but I don’t think you’ve seen mine.” Phil pauses. Technically he has seen it Before…Phil shakes his head.
“I haven’t. Let me guess? Lavacast?” Fit chuckled. “Yep.” Phil sighed and looked over at the wall. “We can use the wall to get there, if that’s ok?” The anarchist nods. “Just what I was thinking.”
The two walk on the wall, chatting about food when the lavcast comes into view. “Tada! My house. I went for a sort of modern art thing.” Phil rolled his eyes. “It’s definitely something.” Phil tensed, and hopped onto the ledge. The book said the Code would be at Fit’s base. Fuck, he’s going to need to make a fucking spyglass later.
Fit hopped onto the ledge too, holding his paraglider. “Let’s jump off here.” Phil nods and jumps off with his paraglider too. As they get closer, Phil curses. Ramon’s on the ledge nad right behind him is the Code. Fit notices too. “Oh shit!”
Phil grabs onto the vines that were on the side of the lava cast and climbs up it as Fit shoves his way in between his kid and the Code. “Oh no! No you don’t!” Fit says as Phil gets on the top of one of the cubes. Phil immediately tenses as the Code starts to jump around. He pulls out a sword. Fit looks tense.
“Ramon get behind me!” The Code starts floating, holding up a trident. Creative mode. “You stay the hell away from my child, asshole.” Fit states and Phil pulls up his shield. “What do you want now?” He asks, and the Code looks at him.
“You’re here for a fucking reason, so what do you want?” The trident is aimed at Phil, and Fit moves toward him, to help protect. “If you want to kill the fucking eggs, you’re going to have to go through me.” The elytrian says, glaring at the Code. The code tilted its glitchy head, and then threw a trident at Phil.
The blond held up his shield and it bounces off. “Asshole!” Fit tosses a bomb in retaliation and it flies off. Weird. Wasn’t it supposed to drop off a book? That’s what the Book said…Fit rolls his eyes. “God is fucking scared of bombs, who would’ve guessed!” Phil chuckles, looking off in the direction it went. Fit turned to Ramon. “Ramon! Are you okay?” The egg crouches and Fit sighs.
“Good good.” The bald man looks at Phil. “It’s like it was targeting you, Phil. What did you do to piss off God?” Phil shrugged.
“I have a few ideas…” Last time, Phil had thought it was mad because he had gotten loot from the ship that was way too powerful. But now, Phil wondered if it was targeting him because of the comment Phil made earlier, about it maybe being an egg…
“Anyway. Can I get a tour?” Fit grins. “Of course my friend! Come in, come in!” Fit leads Ramon and Phil cobblestone stairs into his base. It was the same as before, with empty rooms. Fit starts talking about how he was planning on making a home gym and everything. “Anyway, yeah, that’s the plan!”
Phil smiled and they left those rooms back to the roof where the Code was. Bad joined and Phil paused to welcome him. Bad will probably need to know this stuff too, especially once they get the book with the coords. Fit leads him into the room below, talking about the woods he’s gathering.
“This place is definitely modded, I mean look at all the wood types, man!” Phil chuckles. “Yeah, It’s a lot.” Phil remembered how overwhelmed he was Before, with all the modded stuff. Phil was a very Vanilla guy (not like that-) and it was a bit of a shock to go from the vanilla mainland to here.
Phil looks out the window and jumps. “Jesus christ!” The Code was back. “Oh shit!” Fit shouts, and they both pull out their weapons. “The fuck do you keep doing here?” Phil asked, shield at the ready.
It doesn’t respond, just holds up its trident. “You keep fucking showing up. What do you want? We’re trying to fucking talk to you, but all you do is attack.” It tilts its head. And then drops a book.
There we go. “Fuckin’ finally.” Phil heads outside to grab it, before backing up. “What does it say?” Fit asked. Phil looks up. “It’s gone.” Fit frowns.
“It just dropped the book and Ran? Coward.” Phil nods, before opening it.
2530, 1893, 67
“Well?” Phil sighed. “It’s coordinates.” Fit’s eyes widened. “Really?” Phil nods. “Don’t know why, but jesus.” Fit frowns.
“Well, it gave us coords, so I guess we should go?” Phil nods, and then jumps back as the Code appears inside the room with them. “FUCKING CHRIST!” Phil shouts. “What the fuck! Don’t fucking do that!” The Code looks at him and nods. Fit looks at Phil. “Is…that a yes to following the coordinates?”
Phil nodded, staring at the code. “I can only assume so.” The Code disappears. “Fucking asshole.” Fit says and Phil laughs.
“Guess we should get going, eh?” Fit nods and they leave the building.
They pass Ramon’s house, and Fit gives a small tour. “This is Ramon’s mini mansion. And over there is Spreen’s mansion, but he went out for cigarettes and hasn’t returned.” Phil paused. Shit. He totally forgot about Spreen. He’d been so focused on everything else, he forgot that Spreen was the other islander to die.
Phil gave a small but tense laugh. “Ouch, mate.” Fit shrugs. “It’s fine. Me and Ramon can hold down the fort until he gets back.” Phil can’t tell him that Spreen won’t be coming back.
