You will never get rid of her.
She hides in the summer but never leaves. She’s always in the back of your mind, waiting. You breathe in cold air, and just like that you can feel her.
And as the winter comes, so does she.
Her freezing hands trail your body, shackles bruise your legs, and your face stings from the cold. Your stomach hurts from all the uneaten sweets.
Your mom tells you to shovel the driveway.
And you do; and she’s there, watching. She’s always there.
She knows what you are. And she won’t let you forget it.
