Work Text:
✨The Set-up✨
His whole life, Jungkook knew that something is up with his grandma. She was just a little too eccentric, too mysterious – and his parents too weird about it when he did ask one time. But still, he would have never guessed it is because she’s actually an ancient witch. His parents only told him recently, as it became obvious that he inherited her gift for witchcraft.
His own mother was born a perfectly normal human, and that never changed. Jungkook, while seemingly normal for the first twenty years of his life, suddenly faced some changes that turned his life upside down: seeing ghosts, his instincts going haywire, little unexplainable things happening around him, just feeling if someone he interacted with wasn’t quite as human as they seemed. He’d only moved out a year ago, living alone in a small apartment in Seoul while he studies at the film apartment of the university.
So he called his parents and hesitantly described the overall situation, after which they told him to immediately come and visit. He’d gone home, they told him about grandma, he spent a whole week in shock trying to process the overall existence of magic and his own sudden involvement. His parents spent the week trying to get a hold of grandma. But she disappeared somewhere in the Russian forest last year so that didn’t work out.
His parents still didn’t want to leave him entirely alone with the new developments and gave him a big box of his grandmas’ magical books. He’d gone back to Seoul with them in tow, promising to read everything extra carefully and not attempt anything stupid. While he’s still their son, he’s an adult now and they raised him pretty independently. They also know he’s not an idiot. Adventurous, creative, adrenaline-driven, yes. But not stupidly reckless. So they trust him to not do stupid shit.
And he’s been doing really well at that, for the past two months. The different books his grandma unknowingly passed to him are of a wide variety – spell books, history, terminology, dictionary. Because the spells are all in witchtongue. Which jungkook still hasn’t learned, but he’ll get there someday. For now he’s made do just figuring out the pronunciation without actually knowing all the words.
One book is light blue and filled with beginner spells, with instructions written in plain Korean. Jungkook managed to boil water without a stove. He cleaned up a tenacious Ramen broth stain from his carpet. He helped his windowsill tomatoes grow better. He cured his light cold with a potion. So really, he’s been responsible and smart about everything.
What happens one cold day at the end of October is not his fault.
✨The Incident✨
His upstairs neighbour is usually a neutral topic for Jungkook. The guy is nice, holds the elevator door open, doesn’t listen to loud crappy music or has loud crappy sex like the one to his right. But that day he suddenly destroys his good reputation. For whatever reason, he decided to go on vacation and leave the bathtub running. Jungkook knows that certainly wasn’t on purpose, but what’s done is done.
What’s there, is a huge water stain on his ceiling. It’s dripping down to him too after an hour. And it’s Sunday, only an emergency crew at the water supply company. The landlord already turned off the water, but it’s much too late for Jungkook living room. The worst thing is that he got his paint supplies and paintings all over the room, as well as unfinished project for uni. They were supposed to make a stop-motion film and Jungkook and his project partner Namjoon built up in his living room, thinking it safe. The set up is too big to just put into his closet-like bedroom.
So really, he has no choice but to try using his newfound magic skills. His day gets even worse when the normal cleaning spell he already mastered doesn’t work. Apparently not strong enough for that big of a problem. The note besides it says that it’s only for getting rid of smaller stains in clothing anyway.
Jungkook consults other books on spells he finds in the box. Most of them have not even a word in Korean, everything in witchtongue. But he’s desperate, and he needs to safe everything now.
In the middle of an ominous black book, he finds a drawing. Someone is standing beside a smudge on the floor, maybe wiping it away or something. Cleaning. The book is old and the drawing has suffered from that, but Jungkook is pretty sure of what he is seeing. It’s better than nothing. So why not. He can just try.
Carefully meticulous but hurried, Jungkook sets up four candles he needs to rescue from the depth of his ‘A-little-bit-of-everything-box’ and writes down how to pronounce the spell. When he’s ready, he drinks some banana milk for comfort and stands right beside the stain. Another waterdrop hits the coulisse of the uni project, painfully handmade in long hours. Namjoon will probably cry if they have to do it again. So Jungkook doesn’t hesitate and starts reciting the spell.
✨The Appearance✨
Against his expectation, the spell neither just works and makes the stain disappear, nor just doesn’t work. Something entirely else happens.
With a low, swooshing sound, a man materializes right in front of him. Jungkook knows his mouth is hanging open, he’s staring, but he can’t help it. That is not what he wanted. What is he supposed to do with a man? does the spell literally summon someone to clean up for you?
It takes a few seconds until Jungkook can actually register anything about the man. He’s a little shorter than Jungkook, dressed in black. Black shoes, black jeans, black shirt, all a little old-timey. Upon looking down, Jungkook panics for another moment because the man is standing right over his uni project – but luckily he’s not crushing anything with his weight. Both feet are firmly planted on the anyway flat parts of the scenery he and Namjoon built. The relief flooding Jungkook is enough to make him relax a little, and he has time to look at the man’s face.
Oh.
He's pretty. Like, Jungkook would see him on the bus and start daydreaming about their shared future in a lovely house with two dogs and a garden-pretty. His skin is pale and smooth, his hair black and a little long and unruly, falling half into his cat-like eyes. Which are staring right back at Jungkook. He can feel himself blush, but still doesn’t stop himself from also taking in the button nose and pink lips for a few seconds longer.
Then the guy clears his throat. There is kind of a magical feel about him, so he’s probably not human, like Jungkook isn’t.
Jungkook tries to put on a nice, unassuming smile. “Yes?”
“What? Yes?! You summoned me!”, the guy exclaims.
Now Jungkook could argue with him that he didn’t knowingly summon anyone, but he guesses that wouldn’t be constructive. And a little embarrassing. And summoning… Witches usually summon demons. But Jungkook didn’t do that, right? He didn’t accidently summon a demon. That would be very, very unfortunate. Stupid, almost.
“I did,” he acquiesces, talking very slowly and furiously thinking of what to do. “What’s your name again?”
The guy blinks, taken aback. “Yoongi.”
Jungkooks smile brightens, he nods happily. It’s a nice name, fitting, Acting like that’s the answer he wanted to hear and already knew, he nods. “Nice! Yes, I did summon you. Yoongi.”
“And for what?”, Yoongi questions, still not moving. Jungkook contemplates changing all his plans and just asking the guy on a date, but there’s still the stain on the ceiling. Suddenly, as if it just had been waiting for that question, another drop of water falls. Right onto Yoongis shoulder. He turns his head upwards, scrunching up his nose at what he sees. Cute.
Jungkook uses the opportunity. “Well, that, actually. The stain needs to be gone, and the water too before it damages my projects.”
Yoongi looks around the floor for the first time. Suddenly he begins to float, and lands right next to the coulisse. How kind. Jungkook likes him just for that. Then Yoongi tilts his head. It makes him look like cat even more. “And you summoned a High demon to clean up a water stain?”
A High - Jungkook feels himself go pale. He can’t even answer Yoongi. The guy, the demon. The high demon, just standing nicely next to Jungkooks project dressed like some regular dude. Aside from how pretty he is, looking overall like some very regular human man.
“Are you okay?”
Jungkook read a little about demons before, in some other book of his grandma. But the book was a demonology encyclopaedia, thick with small letters. No spells, just dry information packed into paragraphs spanning several pages at times. Horrible read. He barely made it through the first chapter. But that’s enough to know that Demons are really not fun to deal with. You need to be careful summoning them. The book says they’re not inherently evil, just often made to do evil things but that eventually turns them evil too. Jungkook is sure a High Demon has done many, many terrible things. Although he’s been quite nice until now.
“Yes,” he croaks out eventually, still trying to appear like he knows what he’s doing. Now more than ever, the demon could take advantage of his inexperience. “I summoned you to clean that up for me.”
Yoongi narrows his eyes at him. When he’s not smiling he looks rather fierce, but still very hot. Jungkook tries to breathe normal, look normal, stand normal. This is just another day, the demon can’t know that Jungkook has no idea what he’s doing.
In a sudden positive turn of events, Yoongi waves at the ceiling and the water disappears entirely. The damage done too. It is as if the whole thing never happened, no evidence left. Fantastic. Jungkook smiles again. He’s easy to please sometimes, sue him. And this is really a perfect solution. No money lost, no damage done, no real work. All in all, it worked out great.
✨The Aftermath✨
After Jungkook has admired his spotlessly clean ceiling for a minute, Yoongi turns towards him again, now raising an eyebrow. “You don’t do this often, do you?”
“What do you mean?”, Jungkook asks right back and giggles nervously, cursing in his mind. Why is it obvious he never did this before? He translated the instructions on the page with the candles well, followed them, and obviously said everything right since Yoongi did appear.
The demon chuckles as well, although he certainly seems more amused than Jungkooks internal panic lets him be. “Well you seem a little confused by me showing up, is all. Is that the book you used?”
Jungkook nods, picking up the open book next to him from the counter. Not really knowing why, he shows the page to Yoongi.
The demon snorts. “It even says my title, High demon Yoongi, right there! And the ritual words also- wait, do you even speak witchtongue?”
Jungkook is obviously caught. Fuck. But while demons are dangerous, Yoongi has not tried to harm or manipulate him in any way, and he cleaned up the water like Jungkook told him to. Which means, as intended, the spell summoned a demon and gave Jungkook power over it. Him. So he doesn’t need to worry too much. He did everything right.
Which is why he doesn’t lie to Yoongi. “Well I can pronounce it.”
Yoongi seems appalled. “You should definitely learn.”
“I’m working on it,” Jungkook mumbles, feeling a little stupid as Yoongi scolds him like this. Of course he knows he should learn witchtongue, he just… didn’t have the time. And until now everything worked out fine! Even today. So maybe he did confuse a cleaning spell with one to summon a demon, but at least he did it right.
Jungkook looks at Yoongi once more, trying to be subtle. Now that he knows Yoongi is a demon, he’s looking for some clues that would give it away. But he just looks like a normal human. No smoke, horns, fire, magical glow… just a man. Very pretty though, still, even with what Jungkook knows now.
His eyes are dark brown, warm even as there’s basically no expression on his face. With such a bone structure and skin Jungkook can perfectly imagine him in a drama, slow motion shots as he leans in to kiss someone. He’d be just as pretty close up-
“And now?”
Jungkook physically flinches. He’d been so deep in thought (admiring Yoongi) that he kind of forgot the time. What now? He has no idea. But Yoongi is a demon, and while he’s certainly pretty, he did his job. Time to send him home from work, so to say.
“That’s all I wanted,” he begins, hesitating only a few seconds before telling himself there will be other pretty men to look at in his life. Ones that aren’t demons he accidentally summoned. “So I want you to go back to where I summoned you from, now.”
This time he makes his orders a little more precise. But Yoongi doesn’t make a move to leave. He tilts his head, blinks, purses his lips. “But I don’t wanna go.” He’s almost pouting now, which makes him even cut-
“What?!”
✨The No Good Very Bad Reality Check✨
“Well it’s been a while since I was summoned. I wanna stay on earth a little longer,” Yoongi muses, looking around Jungkooks apartment. Ice cold worry starts prickling down Jungkooks back. Yoongi should be doing as he says, shouldn’t he?
“No!” He can’t just let a demon roam free through Seoul, that can’t be good. While Yoongi was perfectly civil until now, Jungkook can’t just trust him to no do any damage. A pretty face can be deceiving. “I said to go back!”
“No.”
“What, no? You have to listen to me, don’t you?”, Jungkook exclaims. His panic increases tenfold when Yoongi only smirks.
“Not really though. You did summon me and bind me to you, very well. But,” Yoongi makes a dramatic pause, probably enjoying it as Jungkook stares in horror, then the book suddenly flies into his hands, still open. “But the ritual has actually two more pages!” As he talks, the book hovers in the air next to him and he turns the pages over, two times.
As Jungkook can’t read witchtongue, he barely knows what it says there. He can see that the next page does not begin like a new spell would, which means it is indeed a continuation of the spell to summon Yoongi. He opens his mouth to ask something, but no sound comes out. He needs to know how much he fucked up. Who knows what those pages say?
As if he read Jungkooks thoughts, Yoongi smiles brightly, pointing at the books’ words. “The first page instructs how to summon me and bind me to the witch, so while I’m summoned by you no one else can do the same. Like an exclusive contract! And a little clause about how I can’t harm you while you’ve summoned me, all nice, you did great!”
Despite the praise, which Jungkook usually likes, he doesn’t feel better about apparently doing great at the first part. Yoongi doesn’t wait long before continuing.
“The second page actually gives instruction how to make me follow your orders. Binding me to do your bidding, you know? And the last page says how you can… send me back to where I came from.” Yoongi closes the book loudly, then it disappears. “And you didn’t read those pages, obviously. I’m here now, no one else can summon me away, and I can actually do whatever I want! Great, isn’t it?”
Jungkook feels himself slump. “Fuck.”
Yoongis smile is still pretty, even as his words are a crushing weight on Jungkook. Well, at least Yoongi can’t harm him. That’s a good thing. “Anyway, I haven’t been on earth in a while, so I’m gonna go now. I wonder, do you still have those… Tteokbokki?”
“We do,” Jungkook mumbles automatically. Then he suddenly remembers why he summoned Yoongi, if accidently. The water stain is gone. Even though Yoongi obviously does not need to listen to him. “Wait!”
“Huh?”, Yoongi makes and raises both eyebrows.
Jungkook points at the ceiling, where minutes before the water dripped onto his hard work. “Why did you clean up the water if you don’t need to listen to me?”
“Oh…” Yoongi hesitates, tilts his head, smacks his lips. Then he looks right into Jungkooks eyes, and it seems that his cheeks have gone a little pink. “Cause you’re cute.”
With that he vanishes. Literally. Into thin air. And Jungkooks apartment looks as if nothing happened. No water stain, no demon. Well, the candles are still there. As he puts them out, Jungkook feels himself blush. So Yoongi thinks he’s cute…
✨The Call-back✨
Jungkook gets himself some banana milk to calm down, lies in his bed and puts on a drama to distract him. He needs two episodes to come to terms with everything happening. Then it gets him thinking.
The Couple on his laptop screen is a typical recipe: straight, one poor and one rich, one enthusiastic and one not so much, one falls first, and in the last few episodes the male lead will definitely be run over by a car.
Jungkook is single. Not painfully so, he goes on dates often enough, sometimes it works out for a while. But nothing has stuck until now. Noone was The One. Of course he can’t have the kdrama version of a love life. He’s not even straight. Still, until now his dates have all been… normal, so to say. For example, they were all human.
Now Yoongi- Yoongi is not human, but he’s pretty. And he thinks Jungkook is cute. He’d been polite, helped Jungkook with the water, didn’t laugh at him being a newbie, showed appropriate enthusiasm for food after being back on earth. Maybe Jungkook needs to branch out, into the supernatural world. He’s a witch now, why not date a demon? Jungkook doesn’t need his partner to be human, he needs someone who’s there for him, someone to cuddle and hang out with and have fun. Yoongi could be that someone.
Well, maybe Jungkook is already too deep in that fantasy because Yoongi is so pretty and has a nice voice. But Yoongi called him cute, and that has to mean something.
The next day, Jungkook clears away a little of the painting stuff in the living room and lights up the candles once more. Yoongi did take his book, but not his self-written paper with the pronunciation of the spell. He’s gotten lucky.
As soon as he’s spoken the words, Yoongi shows up. This time Jungkook isn’t as stunned, although a little surprised because Yoongi is now in a baggy tracksuit. The dark blue suits him well, and he’s let the zipper a little open to reveal a white shirt. He looks more comfortable than yesterday.
Yoongi doesn’t take long to orient himself either, focusing right no Jungkook. He raises his arm to point at him. “Hey, what is this? You’re not sending me back!”
“I don’t even know how to!”, Jungkook reminds him with a grin. Yoongis rather determined expression clears off at his words, leaving him confused.
“Right,” he says, but certainly not trusting Jungkook just yet, “So why am I here then?”
Jungkook really hopes this will work out. “You- you said you think I’m cute.”
That certainly takes the wind out of Yoongis sails. His mouth open like a fish, he stares at Jungkook. “I- I guess?” A blush spreads on his cheeks. Is that a good sign? It probably is, Jungkook decides.
“Well I,” Jungkook takes a breath, he has asked people on a date before but usually when he’s surer of some kind of attraction between them, and with Yoongi being a demon he’s unsure about everything right now. Still, he wants to try. And he’s not a quitter. He’ll get that date with Yoongi, even if it’s gonna be embarrassing getting there. “I think you’re really cute too.”
“Oh.”
Jungkook shyly smiles at Yoongi. He can feel that his own cheeks are red, but so are Yoongis – the demon is staring right back at him, frozen in place.
Until he suddenly flinches backwards. “Wait is that why you summoned me again?” His voice is rather flummoxed.
Jungkook tries a wining smile. “Yeah? Kinda?”
“What- why- why would-“ Yoongis face does something that Jungkook is sure would translate to a written keysmash. But that’s not an outright no.
So he presses on. “Why not?”
“Well I’m literally a demon,” Yoongi hisses, “What is the plan here, dating me?”
Jungkook does a shrug-nod-combination. He is painfully aware of his own red cheeks, his heartbeat too loud in his ears. And Yoongis own blush, his wide eyes. And still, no rejection. “Do demons not date?”
Yoongi aggressively shrugs his shoulders, hands raised, “I don’t know?”
“Is something stopping you?” Jungkook thinks it’s going well. Kind of. It’s going somewhere, at least
Yoongi opens his mouth, closes it, opens it again. Jungkook can practically see the cogs turning in his head until he simply answers with a hesitant ‘no’.
“See!”, Jungkook happily exclaims.
Yoongi is not as enthusiastic. “No- no! ‘See’, as if it’s that easy! Oh, if this is a ploy to get the book back I’ll tell you now that it’s fucked up!”
“It’s not!” Jungkook can feel himself pout. It’s really not. If he’s honest, he’s barely thought about the book since the idea of asking Yoongi on a date began to fester in his mind. “I mean of course I do want the book back, but I won’t pretend to be interested in dating you to manipulate you. That would be fucked up.”
Sadly enough, Yoongi doesn’t seem too convinced as he narrows his eyes at Jungkook. Time to turn it up a notch. Or dig himself a little deeper in? Jungkook isn’t sure. He just knows that even if this appears to be a difficult journey, he still wants to spend more time with yoongi.
“Just. Please go on a date with me? I really want to go out with you, I promise that is the truth. You said you haven’t been to earth in years, I can show you around! Ever been to a bowling alley? The best fusion restaurants in Seoul? The best lamb skewer truck? Have you been to a cat café? The dog park? PC rooms? Have you tried any street food?”
“You didn’t leave me much time to explore, immediately calling me again,” Yoongi deflects. Another non-answer.
Jungkook latches onto the admittance. “And it will be so much more fun with me! I know all the best spots. Please, one date?”
The conflict of Yoongis mind plays out on his face. Jungkook, now getting desperate, raises his right pointer finger, holding the hand up with his left. With his mouth he forms the word ‘one’ again, making puppy eyes.
And like an origami paper, Yoongi folds. He nods, abruptly. “One! Just one date, okay?”
Jungkook barely stops himself from cheering happily. He can’t help the absolutely splitting grin spreading on his face though. Yoongi only hesitantly smiles back. It’s still enough. And he said yes!! If Jungkook really has a demon going out on a date with him, it’ll definitely work out. It has to.
Now that Yoongi has agreed, he feels much more confident. “But I’ll ask you on another date after the first one, and you’ll agree then too,” he confidently claims, making Yoongi raise his eyebrows, “Trust me!”
Yoongi makes a very exaggerated, impressed face. “Someone’s confident in their dating abilities.”
“Abilities not so much, but I’ve been told that it’s easy to get attached to me,” Jungkook says. It’s not even a lie. He would rate his dating abilities fine, but maybe not outrageously good. And Namjoon did say those exact words, when they met at the beginning of university.
Yoongi snorts, and tilts his head. “Maybe it’s the sparkly eyes,” he muses, teasingly.
But Jungkook only hears the compliment. He feels himself blush again, after he just calmed down some. “Oho, so you’re flirting already?”
Now it’s Yoongis turn to splutter. “No! I- just- that was. Urgh.”
Jungkook giggles happily. If yoongi reacts like that to him, there’s definitely hope. And he’s so cute! Standing in Jungkooks apartment, shy when he was so confident yesterday, pink cheeks and fluttery hands.
As if to try and distract Jungkook, Yoongi speaks up again. “So about that date…”
“Yes! We can go right away if you’re up to it?”, Jungkook enthusiastically proposes. That wasn’t exactly the plan he made earlier, but it’s going so well and he really doesn’t want Yoongi to leave again now. He can continue the uni project he planned to do later.
Yoongi is taken aback for a moment, but agrees quickly enough.
“Nice! Let me just change my clothes,” Jungkook announces, already shuffling towards his bedroom. He’s wearing his painting clothes, old things full of splatters.
His words make Yoongi look down on himself. “Oh. But I can’t dress up, I don’t have clothes.”
Right. Jungkook looks Yoongi up and down. He is smaller overall, Jungkook visits the gym often enough that he filled out quite shapely. Yoongi not so much. He’s shorter, his legs definitely thinner, his waist too. His shoulders seem broad, although that doesn’t help much overall. Still, Jungkook beckons him to his room anyway, and rakes through his wardrobe.
In the end he dresses up in his room alone, quickly. Baggy but clean jeans, a tight black turtleneck, a subtle necklace. Yoongi confirmed he runs rather hot, being a demon and all, so he got Jungkooks old favourite ripped jeans that haven’t fit in about two years. He didn’t throw them away because he loved them so much, the carefully placed rips running all along the front. Maybe he’s trying to see something. A simple black shirt is easy to find, oversized looks good anyway.
Jungkook is stunned to silence when Yoongi emerges from the bathroom. He looks too hot. His eyes don’t know where to stop, the skin of his legs? His hair he definitely styled? His arms? His face? Luckily, Yoongi seems as preoccupied with checking Jungkook out as he is, so they calmly take each other in. Eventually Yoongi licks his lips.
“Shall we?”
Jungkook grabs his bag and wallet with one hand, Yoongis hand with the other, and leads them outside. “Where do you wanna go first?”
✨The Date✨
After Yoongi has decided that Jungkook will decide, they make their way towards his favourite lamb skewer place. It’ll be noon in a little while, and he’s kind of getting hungry after all that emotional turmoil. Yoongi, revealing demons don’t need to eat but they do enjoy the taste of food, wasn’t opposed to those plans. They took the subway and are walking the last five minutes, when Jungkook remembers something he wanted to ask Yoongi about.
“Oh, by the way, why do you look like that?”, he asks, still holding Yoongis hand.
The demon’s face turns sulky immediately. “You dressed me up!” Oh. Well, the question did leave much room for interpretation. Jungkook can’t help chuckling at Yoongis affronted reaction, even as he himself caused it. Accidently. “I thought you like how I look,” Yoongi adds quietly.
“I do! I really do!” Jungkook takes Yoongi in once more, and he’s just the same kind of devastatingly hot as before. He hopes the look in his eyes can convey that. “I meant like, why do you look human? Aren’t there supposed to be… horns? Flaming eyes? Fire around you? Smoke? Do demons really just look like humans?”
As he talks, Yoongi quickly understands and the sulky look disappears. His hold on Jungkooks hand tightens a little and he swings their hands happily. Who knew a demon could be this adorable?
“A demons physical form on earth is basically how they looked as a human. So this is me, as I looked before dying,” Yoongi explains and gestures down himself roughly. Jungkook nods along, trying to not be jealous of the people who actually met human-Yoongi and maybe even got close to him. “It’s like the basic framework. The rest of the demon look are additions, but I mostly hide them when I’m summoned, because I’m not really into people cowering and stuttering and trembling while I’m trying to just talk to them. So I hide the flames and the glowing eyes and the horns.”
So he does have horns. Maybe Jungkook should have looked into the dry demonology book again in between summoning Yoongi for the first and the second time, but he didn’t. And he’s curious. Without thinking, he replies: “Can I see the horns?”
“Later.”
A second passes before they realize how ambiguous that sounded and turn red simultaneously. Luckily they reach the restaurant before they need to find a new topic by themselves. Yoongi lets Jungkook go and holds the door open for him, still pink but smiling again.
Jungkook kind of likes the chivalrous gesture. They sit down together, and the owner, a grandma that knows Jungkook well already, doesn’t try to hide her curiosity at seeing Jungkook coming in with someone in tow. They successfully lie to her about how they met and order food which arrives as usually quickly and steaming hot.
Luckily the grandma leaves them alone after that, only watching but out of earshot. Jungkook tilts his head at Yoongi curiously inspecting his lamb skewers.
“Say, why are you a High demon and not just a demon? Is it like, the more evil things you do the more you level up?”
Yoongi looks up, amused. He looks so adorable smiling, the corners of his eyes crinkling, his lips revealing just a smidgeon of perfect, small teeth. “Nah. It’s a matter of skill.”
“ohhh. But that does mean you’re more dangerous, right?”, Jungkook comfortably asks. He finds himself not minding Yoongis demonic nature at all. He’ll judge Yoongi by his actions, not by the nature of his being, which isn’t of his own doing. Yesterday he did need to get over the whole demon-thing, but he’s fine now.
With a wiggle of eyebrows, Yoongi picks up a skewer and brings it to his lips. He opens his mouth, and for a split second his teeth seem sharp and murderous as he bites into the flesh. He chews, giving Jungkook time to come to terms with the fact that the sight of razor sharp, dangerous teeth did turn him on a little bit.
“I can be more dangerous,” Yoongi casually reveals, “But not for you.”
Jungkook tries to not let opportunities like this pass. “You’re definitely dangerous for my heart.” He clutches at his chest, longingly staring at Yoongi as he dramatically gasps for breath.
“Seriously,” Yoongi mumbles, huffs, even rolls his eyes as he continues eating. But he’s blushing again, and Jungkook is convinced he’s only eating to hide a grin.
After that the date goes quite well. The food is of course amazing, and as they settle into the whole thing more and more they actually have a lot to comfortably talk about. After lunch Jungkook shows Yoongi around, just traveling through Seoul. In a few clothes stores Yoongi chooses some pieces for a new wardrobe. He touches them and they simply disappear. Jungkook uses his chance and makes Yoongi stock up his own wardrobe as well. By evening they ambush several street food vendors with humongous orders and sit by the Han river to eat.
Yoongi apparently hasn’t been on earth in a little over two decades and is confused about lots of things. But being as old and experienced as he is, he’s quick to accept the changes and adept. He’s still very old fashioned, holding doors open, trying to pay for Jungkook even though he doesn’t really have money, helping an old lady across the street.
He’s just nice. Calm and steady. Even when Jungkook gets excited and runs around and slaps his back he just fondly watches, laughing at his antics. Jungkook doesn’t feel judged for a moment, no matter what he does. It’s perfect. Yoongi is perfect. When Jungkook, deep at night, almost falls asleep on Yoongi the demon magically teleports them back to Jungkooks apartment, kisses Jungkooks forehead and puts him into his bed.
✨The Happy End✨
It’s a while into December, the air cold in Jungkooks lungs as they sit on the Namsan. It smells like it’ll snow soon and Jungkook insisted they go out, even though it’s late and they’d been snuggled together on his couch, a hot chocolate in their hands as they watched a drama.
Yoongi has basically moved in with him. He could have gotten his own apartment, manipulating some landlord into just giving it away without rent, but he never attempted too. Jungkook certainly doesn’t mind that he is available 24/7 to cuddle up to.
They’ve gone on so many more dates now, even to foreign countries. Yoongi has teleported them to Paris, to America, to Italy. Wherever Jungkook wanted to go, they went. He also helps Jungkook with his witchcraft, insisting Jungkook actually focuses on witchtongue and making him little vocabulary cards to learn with. He’s also met Jungkooks friends, Namjoon from university and his childhood friends Jimin and Taehyung. They got along well, although now Jungkook has to withstand the constant teasing about when he’ll finally ask Yoongi to be his boyfriend for real.
Jungkook, his head on Yoongis shoulder, barely flinches when something appears in Yoongis hands out of nowhere. He witnessed too much of demonic magic to be surprised by that. He is a little stunned when he sees it’s a wrapped present though and lifts his head.
Yoongi looks nervous.
“This is for you.”
“oh”, Jungkook makes, and takes it carefully. It feels like a book. Yoongi watches him like a hawk as he unwraps it, biting his lips even. His nervous behaviour is explained when Jungkook finally sees what exactly it is. His grandmas book. With the exact words how to either force Yoongi into his service or send him away.
“I- I trust you, Jungkook-ah. So you can have it back, I mean there’s lots more interesting stuff in there, and now that you’re better at witchtongue you can try them,” he says, rambling a little, “There’s also a recipe for blueberry muffins, we have to try that sometime, they seem delicious.”
Jungkook throws himself forward to hug Yoongi, squeezing as tight as he can. He’d never even consider using any part of the spell against Yoongi. He wants him to be by his side on his own decision. Even if they’d fight he would never use this against him. He’s not such a cruel person. And knowing that Yoongi trusts him enough to give the book back, that he’s so sure he’s risking everything he has now…
Jungkook sniffs as he gets a normal distance between them again. If Yoongi asks he’ll blame it on the cold weather. “Thank you,” he whispers, stroking along the binding with his thumb. It’s heavy on his knees, a doorstopper. “Can you magic it back to our apartment?”
The use of ‘our’ is deliberate, and he’s rewarded with a blinding grin on Yoongis face. Without a sound, the weight of the book disappears from Jungkooks knees. And right where it was, a snowflake gently sets. A second later it disappears, melted into Jungkooks jeans. Jungkook quickly looks up, and more snow falls, slowly tumbling into his vision. It’s pretty magical.
And it’s the first snow of the year. Jungkook giggles in delight, reaching out with one hand and waiting until a flake sets onto it. “The snow, hyung!”, he exclaims. He’d taken to calling Yoongi that. If he wants to annoy him he says ahjussi, when he wants to tease he lets the honorific drop. Yoongi takes everything stoically.
Now he only hums in agreement, chuckling when Jungkook jumps up, dancing around in the snow in excitement even though all the flakes disappear when they meet anything other than cold air. With a giggle, Jungkook twirls, arms raised.
“I didn’t know you like snow that much,” Yoongi says and makes Jungkook stop, right as he’s facing him. For a moment he’s dizzy, and Yoongi looks hazy. “I could have taken you up to the north. We haven’t been to Alaska. Or Russia.”
How sweet. Each time he says things like that, seemingly ready to move heaven and earth should it please Jungkook, he falls for him some more. But Jungkook shakes his head. “No, it’s- well I do like snow a lot, we should go – but humans believe when you see the first snow with someone you like, it’ll work out with them. That you’ll be happy together, in love.”
With his words, Jungkook leans forward and takes Yoongis hands, pulling him up so they’re standing close together. Yoongis smile has softened, his eyes wide and round. For a moment, he doesn’t make a move, then his hands tighten around Jungkooks.
“I really love you,” Yoongi confesses.
They haven’t really said those exact words to one another. Calling each other pretty and cute and dishing out compliments, yes. Jungkook teases Yoongi that he’s too soft for Jungkook. But they haven’t said those words. They didn’t need to, with how many dates they went on and living together it was kind of obvious.
Still, Jungkook feels giddy hearing it. “I love you too,” he readily answers.
As if pulled by an invisible string, they lean into each other. Their lips meet, cold and a little dry because of the weather. But Yoongis are perfectly soft, plush. He tastes of the hot chocolate they had, when Jungkook licks into his mouth.
It’s their first real kiss. Yoongi does kiss his forehead basically after every date they have, and Jungkook loves to kiss Yoongis cheeks to fluster him. But no farther than that. Jungkook realized pretty quickly, that regarding relationships, Yoongi has not quite gone with the modern times. Their pace has been slow and careful, holding hands and cuddling eventually. Yoongi behaved like stuck in the past, and Jungkook was ready to go at any pace if it meant not scaring his demon away.
He’s very happy it’s happening now though, because kissing Yoongi feels amazing and he’ll do that about a hundred times each day from now on. Luckily Yoongi runs very warm no matter the weather, so his hands in Yoongis and his face so close to his don’t get cold. His ears do though, and eventually he decides they should take this back to the apartment.
He separates them, pecking the corner of Yoongis mouth once more. The demon slowly opens his eyes again, cheeks a little pink and lips pouty. So pretty. A thought occurs to Jungkook.
“You know that means you can’t help anyone else peal their perilla leaves ever again,” he scolds Yoongi. He’s almost suffered a heart attack when Yoongi attempted to help Namjoon during the barbecue a month ago.
As predicted, Yoongi lets out a whine. “I said I’m sorry!,” he complains, “How am I supposed to know all your human customs? And Namjoon looked really helpless.”
Jungkook narrows his eyes. He doesn’t want to think of that moment any more than he has to. The jealousy churning in his stomach is real and vicious. Peeling perilla leaves? What’s next, getting married? “Well, next time someone looks helpless, just think about how you’ll look without a boyfriend.”
Dutifully, Yoongi nods. “Of course, of course. I won’t do it again, promise.” He promised this about fifty times already, ten alone in the few minutes after it happened and Jungkook had a meltdown. Yoongi lets go of his hands to grab Jungkooks waist instead, trying to lighten the mood as he jokes, “Something else along those lines I should know?”
For a moment, Jungkook is about to shake his head. Then he remembers. “Well you’re not allowed to peel a shrimp for anyone else either.”
“What?”
