The movement sends Feng Xin’s razor-sharp gaze flitting down to the painted rosebuds of Mu Qing’s lips. For a moment she thinks she sees something undeniable flicker in those irises. Oh. Mu Qing parts her lips, lets out a shuddering gasp. (And Feng Xin’s eyes follow obediently.) Feng Xin is so honest. A weakness that would leave her flayed open in the wintery snarl of the Imperial Palace, stained vermillion on the unfortunate gape of her all-too-honest mouth. Too bad, Mu Qing’s not Empress for nothing.
