Chapter Thirty: Seven Years Later

Kagome stretched her arms high into the air as the sound of ocean waves filled their bedroom.

"Mama!" Their oldest cried from the other side of the door. "Uncle Shouto is here!"

She nestled herself further under the covers.

"Dad!" Katsuo tried again, "He says he's going to steal Ohagi if you don't come down!"

Her husband stirred beside her.

"You know that he's serious." Kagome grinned down at him. "He loves Ohagi and the kids."

Less than three months after Touya had proposed to her, they'd arranged a small wedding of just herself, Touya, Hawks, Souta and Ohagi bearing the ring as he sauntered down the makeshift aisle on the beach. It'd been a beautiful wedding by the ocean with dusk's rays painting the sea in a monochrome of oranges and reds behind them. All the photos they had of that day were breathtaking, but not as much as the photos of her children.

She had forgone getting her next dose of her birth control shot at Touya's request. He'd made it clear that he hadn't wanted to wait to start a family with her. So by the time they'd said their vows, she'd already been eight weeks pregnant.

They'd bought a house right off of the beach, just a few hundred feet away from where they'd gotten married. By now pictures of their wedding, children and extended family had made it onto their walls.

Touya had reconnected with Shouto shortly after he'd claimed the number one spot on the hero chart. She wasn't present during their conversation but now Touya's youngest brother had graduated and become a pro hero of his own, opting to work with him out of his agency here on Nabu Island. Since his arrival, he and Hawks had been jostling for position of favorite uncle. So far, it was a neck and neck race.

Kagome sat up as she pulled on her clothes.

Her mother had remained in Fujitani hospital. Due to the severity of her mental break, she was unable to leave. She’d tried to visit her mother a few times but every time she was met with the woman’s vicious hissing and screeching. Eventually she gave up on ever trying to have a relationship with her.

Meanwhile Souta had moved in with them until he’d graduated high school. Afterwards he returned to the shrine in Tokyo to study lawfare. He’d been inspired by Sesshoumaru’s work and wanted to eventually pick up a job at the man’s firm. So now Sesshoumaru was close to retiring and was preparing her brother to take it over after him.

Houjo had been executed roughly three years after his sentencing. He had few visitors before he’d died and upon his deathbed, the last thing he said was his regret for not killing her sooner. He went out just as twisted as he was in life. His mother wasn’t that much better off. She’d appealed the sentence over and over again which kept her alive for a few years longer. Eventually she was forced to serve out her sentence and when it was her turn, all she could say was that it wasn’t fair and that she wasn’t at fault. The life she’d built up for herself had crumbled with a whimper.

Kagome glanced down at herself in the mirror.

After five children, two of which were twins, her body set differently. Her hips had widened considerably and her figure had filled out more. She'd managed to lose most of the weight she'd gained from her pregnancies but Touya seemed just as into her as the day they first met.

"I'll be down there in a minute!" Her husband grouched.

She heard the scampering of Katsuo's feet as he ran back to the living room. His twin, Tatsuo could be heard chatting away with his uncle about all the different seashells he'd found on the beach that day. Their younger sisters, Yua and Hina, could be heard arguing upstairs.

"You tend to the boys, I'll get the girls." Kagome laughed, kissing Touya's cheek as his brow twitched in irritation.

Haru babbled from his crib beside them. He was their youngest child and still only a few months old, however he seemed to be the easiest to handle compared to the rest of his wily siblings.

Kagome lifted the infant into her arms and she swept across the floor. The boy giggled and laughed as she did.

"Dinner at the usual time tonight?" She smiled up at her husband.

Touya nodded, "Yeah, things are thankfully slow so Shouto and I should be back early." His gaze slid towards the door, "Think you can wrangle the little monsters until we get home?"

Her lips curled up into a confident smile, "Who do you think you're talking to? I can handle this no problem."

And she meant it too.

Handling the kids had become second nature to her. Most of the older children bickered and argued a lot. However they would stop once she got involved. They very rarely pushed her past her limits when she was upset. She could only recall one time where Touya had to come down on them and that was mostly when they'd brought Haru to the beach with them without permission and accidentally left the boy too close to the tide. They'd snuck out of the house that day as she'd been ill and Touya had run a brief errand to grab some medicine for her. The kids decided to try their luck at the beach and just wanted Haru to have fun too. Luckily she'd spotted her infant and managed to grab him before the tide swept him away. Needless to say, they were no longer allowed to go to the beach without at least one of them present.

The scolding both Touya and Shouto put them through afterwards certainly drove the lesson home. Now they would ask for permission before they would hit the beach. She also decided to turn their ventures to the ocean into important family time as they would often go when both Touya and Shouto were off from work too.

Kagome made her way upstairs while Touya went into the living room to meet up with his brother.

"Girls," Kagome called to the twins. "Daddy is heading to work with uncle Shouto."

That was the only thing she needed to say. The two instantly stopped crying as the raced each other down the steps where the rest of the family was waiting.

Her smile softened as she followed after them.

"You two have everything you need?" She smiled at them.

Touya lifted Yua and Hina into his arms while their oldest sons clung to his legs. He kissed each of their cheeks before setting them down and doing the same to Katsuo and Tatsuo.

"I just need one more thing from you." His smile turned playful.

Kagome leaned forward to kiss him, however Haru stuck his head between them. A wide smile spread across the boy's face as he received kisses on his cheeks from them both.

She, Touya and the rest of the family laughed.

Kagome shifted Haru a little further away as she gave Touya her own kiss.

"Good luck out there." She grinned at him.

"Tell the purse snatchers that. They'll need all the luck they can get if they run into me." He shot back at her.

Regardless of how everything started, she was glad that she'd chosen Touya.

She couldn't imagine a more perfect life.

A/n: And with that, this one is complete~. This fic turned more into a shameless smut story than I originally anticipated. Although that doesn’t really bother me as much. 😂 Might as well give some variation for this ‘What If’ series. I’ll probably start on the ex-villain fic either tonight or tomorrow. That one will be more wholesome and family oriented if I stick to my current plot, but there may be some explicit scenes. We’ll see though. 😂
