Work Text:

By Christmas, she had forgotten the strange warning from an even stranger woman, one more of the strange things that keep happening to her.

Get out of London for Christmas. The blonde even reminded her of the raffle that Donna didn’t know she had, that she couldn’t remember having picked, but that somehow this stranger knew was there, and knew that she would win.

The raffle to a hotel up North, the warning to leave London, it could only mean one thing. The blonde knew what would happen to London, to all of South England, she knew and she did nothing. Or rather, the only thing that she did about it was make sure that Donna and her family would survive.

Donna saw the mushroom cloud, she saw it with her bare eyes even from this distance, and it was almost impossible to believe. Nearly every place that she’s ever been to, nearly every person she ever met, all gone. London was just… gone. Erased from the map by an explosion so ridiculous that the news had to keep saying that it wasn’t a hoax, because who would believe that a flying replica of the Titanic would destroy so much and kill so many?

The woman knew, and she didn’t stop it. She didn’t stop any of it. She didn’t tell other people to run, she didn’t try to evacuate the city, she didn’t try to stop the ship. The only thing that she did was warn Donna to stay away.

Get out of London, you and your family. If Donna hadn’t listened to her, if she hadn’t redeemed her prize, then she would be dead, her entire family would be dead. She should have died with the rest of London, and now she didn’t know what she would do.

London was gone, just gone, and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it. This was the world she lived in, where impossible things happened without explanation, and there was no one there to save them. She didn’t know how, but this wasn’t how it was meant to be.
