The chequered flag waved in Abu Dhabi and with it, signified the end of Lewis' last race.
He’d done it. He’d won his eighth world championship, and he’d done it in Ferrari red.
The podium was a bit of a blur. George was up there with him and the scent of one of his honorary pups was the only thing keeping him grounded in the moment. He could see Nico in the crowd even if he couldn’t smell him like he wanted to. He laughed as he was sprayed with rose water, completely soaked and sticky by the time he stepped off the podium. He’s glad the last race was in Abu Dhabi, if only so people didn’t question why he was avoiding the champagne.
The thing is, Lewis is pregnant.
He’d found out a couple of days ago, almost two months after his last heat. He hadn’t told Nico yet, wanting to wait until after the race before he did. The only person who knew was Angela, and that’s because he needed to tell someone. He would've gone crazy if he hadn’t. She’d been excited, even as she reminded him of the risks of carrying a pregnancy at his age. It’s not that he wasn’t worried about that, but he was also just too excited to care at the moment. He knew the worries would hit him later on, but for now, all he wanted to do was tell his mate and start celebrating.
He was swept into Nico’s arms as soon as Nico was able to make it through the wave of drivers trying to congratulate him, and Lewis had to laugh as he was spun around. Nico stumbled slightly under his weight, which only served to make Lewis laugh harder. He felt like he was flying. He felt like nothing he’d ever felt before. It was just pure elation.
Nico placed him down gently and brought him into a kiss, both of them ignoring the cameras that flash at the sight of Lewis kissing his esteemed rival Nico Rosberg. Lewis was the first to pull back, resting his head on Nico’s for a second to catch his breath.
“I need to tell you something later.”
Nico laughed, the sound light and beautiful.
“Is this where you tell me you’re pregnant?”
“Uhhh…”
“Lewis! No way! You’re pregnant?”
Lewis could only laugh and nod before he was swept up into another kiss, this one more excited, and suspiciously wet. He pulled back to see tears running down Nico’s face and felt his own eyes stinging in response. They were really doing this. Not only had Lewis finally broken Michael’s record, but he and Nico were finally getting to start the family they’ve been dreaming of for years, even when they weren’t talking. It felt surreal, and Lewis swore in that moment he knew how the gods felt, standing on top of the world.
Eventually, Lewis was ushered away to speak to the media about his historic win, but nothing could take the smile off his face, even dealing with the media, which was a chore on the best of days. He knew Nico would find him later, and he was excited to celebrate his news with his mate.
