Akito put his hands on Toya’s face, looking directly into those beautiful grey eyes. He could just stay like this forever, with Toya right by him.
“Akito… I love you.” Toya smiled as he spoke, leaning in ever so slightly. Akito stared at him, a frown slightly rising onto his face.
They could both feel each other’s love, even if one couldn’t sense their own.
Akito could feel the calm breaths from Toya against his face. It was warm, and clearly showed the other man’s affection towards him, but he stayed silent.
Toya’s smile slowly faded to distress. He couldn’t help but wonder if something was wrong. He gently pulled Akito’s hands off of his face, holding them. It’s outré for them to be this warm.
“Are you alright, Akito?” He questioned.
Akito felt so conflicted. He couldn’t continue lying to Toya about what they needed to do, so he just swallowed his fear and leaned in.
He kissed him gently, soft lips meeting. Toya is his boyfriend, but can never be his. Toya has a far brighter future than he does, one full of happiness and easygoing.
Akito parted their kiss, his gaze saddened by his guilt. He stared at Toya again.
“Toya…” Akito began to speak, his voice quiet and unsteady.
“Yes?” Toya asked hesitantly, matching the volume that Akito spoke with.
Akito sighed. His feelings were difficult to express, especially to the person he had been with for almost seven months now.
It’s not right for them to be this way, and he can’t understand why Toya would ever love a guy, let alone one like him.
“We… we can’t do this anymore…” Akito moved his head away from Toya, aware that he probably just broke his singing partner’s heart.
Before Toya was able to respond to him, Akito shut him up.
“I don’t hate you, Toya, I just don’t love you like I thought I did. I’ll always be your friend and singing partner.” Akito explained, glancing at Toya for a moment.
Silence filled the air, and Akito felt those cold hands slip away from his own. The slight sniffles from heartbreak emanating from Toya.
“You— Are you serious about this? It isn’t some— some sick joke?” Toya asked incredulity.
Akito finally looked at Toya again, properly meeting his gaze. He impulsively grabbed his singing partner into a hug.
“I wouldn’t joke about this, you know that…” Akito muttered as he felt arms wrap around him. He knew that he had unintentionally played with his heartstrings, and regretted it deeply.
He felt the taller man break into sobs, and squeezed him a little bit. Akito didn’t mind if they just broke up, he was going to support Toya forever and a day.
“Y—you know… I’m not going to stop loving you…” Toya was a mess from all of this, and was continuously crying into Akito’s shoulder.
He nodded, tracing faux curls into Toya’s straight, blue-ish hair. Akito didn’t know if he would’ve been able to do this the next time they were able to see each other, as that would’ve been during school and not practice where they can do whatever they want to.
