Chapter Text
Despite all the stress that it put Klavier through, Apollo had to admit it was a nice wedding. He wasn’t going to think about how crazy expensive this all was, because he knew that a destination wedding with this many people that looked this nice had to be expensive enough to make Apollo light headed.
But it was really nice. Especially getting to see Klavier look so happy. Apollo would let him mingle more, as he sat back and enjoyed a moment to just take it all in. Whatever it was that Klavier was wearing was pretty, but he had to say, nothing looked prettier than Klavier genuinely smiling.
“Y’know Polly.” Trucy started, startling the hell out of Apollo, making him yelp. She carried on not waiting for him to recover. “I thought that you’d be more of a mess during the wedding.”
He had to stop, and look at her. “Mess like how?”
“I thought you’d cry so much more. But you barely cried at all.”
Apollo felt like that wasn’t true. He was pretty sure he cried through most of the ceremony. It wasn’t like they were actually getting married. That was months ago. There was just something about standing in front of all those people and talking about how much he loved his husband that really got to him.
So much so that he was going to have to give Klavier a copy of his vows so he can know what Apollo even said.
“I think we have different definitions of barely, Trucy.”
“I don’t think so. I mean look at you now! You’re not crying at all right now!”
“I mean the night is still young. There’s still plenty of opportunities to cry. Like we haven’t even got to the cake.” He was going to have to hold himself together for that one. The Kitaki’s worked so hard on it, and Vera even made toppers for them that looked exactly like them. It was touching, if a little uncanny.
Trucy elbowed him gently. “If I didn’t know better, then I’d say our little Polly’s growing up! You’re so tough now!”
Her praise rang very hollow. He knew a jab when he heard it. “Trust me, I’ve been crying about this for months. I mean Klavier’s my husband now. How great is that?”
“Hmm…” Trucy narrowed her eyes at him as she looked him over carefully. Being on the perceived end was never a great feeling. It always made him feel so small. “Why would you be crying for months about being Klavier’s husband if you only got married tonight?”
Shit.
Trucy caught him. He wasn’t being careful. He got so caught up in how beautiful the ceremony has been and how beautiful his husband looks to remember to mind his phrasing.
“I mean I knew for months that it was going to happen. Klavier loves me a lot, so there was no way that he’d just change his mind about it. It was basically a done deal when he gave me the ring.”
That wasn’t a good enough explanation for Trucy. “Hmm… weird that it was months, and not almost a year.”
“It didn’t really click in that it was real until a few months ago.” When they signed the papers and actually got married.
“You’re not making eye contact, Polly.”
“I don’t always make eye contact.”
“Then look me in the eyes and say it.”
Apollo knew how dire the situation was. Trucy wasn’t someone you can just walk away from lying to so easily. Of all the people to be caught by, Trucy was the one who would get every last detail from him, no matter how much or how little he said. She was a master of misdirection and subtext, and Apollo was an open book to most people the best of times.
“Trucy…” He could beg. It was his wedding day, he should be allowed to get away with more than usual.
“Polly…” She responded. She wasn’t going to give up any ground. Together they’d be locked in this war of attrition, and Apollo knew that only one of them would be strong enough to make it out of there unscathed.
“Can’t we just drop it? Klavier worked really hard to make a beautiful ceremony. It’d be a shame not to enjoy it entirely. Even if he didn’t let me let Eldoon cater.”
“What are you hiding from me, Polly?” She asked, staring holes through him.
Teenage girls were scary. Apollo was going to have to ask Klavier later how he could perform for them and not be afraid of being torn asunder.
Klavier…
That’s it!
“Oh! I think Klavier’s calling me over. Probably for a wedding thing, since we got married. I should go to that, because he’s my husband.” He waved at Klavier, hoping that he’d get the hint.
Klavier gave him a relaxed wave back, fully comfortable and immersed in his element. It was beautiful to see him like that. And that was Apollo’s husband, legally.
“Fine… but don’t think this conversation is over, Polly.” Trucy huffed, for once, letting Apollo have his victory.
“Awesome… We can talk about how I got married earlier than my wedding later.”
“Polly!”
Shit.
“Anyways! Wedding stuff, busy busy busy!” Apollo waved, before disappearing into the crowd.
This was his wedding day, even if the marriage started months before. This got to be his day, so he should be allowed a pass just this once, even if he knew he was basically going to be executed the moment he stepped foot into the office after his honeymoon.
But that was weeks from now, and for now he only had to worry about one thing.
And that was going to be how many times was going to be enough times to kiss his husband, and he knew the answer was going to be “there’s never enough.” But he couldn’t wait to find that out for himself.
