Work Text:

It was a warm summer night, the bugs buzzed as the fire crackled and Seidou stared at the stars dotting the sky as he rested next to his partners. Akira quietly thumbed through a book she had picked up the other day while Amon had fallen asleep on her shoulder. The noise of the night was not loud enough to drown out the noise in Seidou’s own head, however.

“…hey Akira?” He asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

“What is it?” She responded in kind, peeling her eyes away from her book to look down at him.

Takizawa looked downwards and took in a breath, needing a moment before he could voice his question.

“Do you hate me?”

The question appeared to take her by surprise. “Why do you think that?”

“I dunno, probably the murder attempts or something…” He muttered.

Akira closed her book and was quiet for a moment, making Seidou’s anxiety levels spike.

“If you could go back in time, would you do the same things again?” She asked, raising her voice back to a normal speaking volume.

“I… wasn’t thinking right back then. I don’t even remember much before you guys helped me back, it’s like… a four-year nightmare.”

“So your answer is...?”

“No, I wouldn’t.”

“Then no, I don’t hate you.”

Seidou looked back up to the stars, considering her words. Logically he understood, who he was then and who he is now are different people, but emotionally he couldn’t grasp it. She should hate him, even if it was technically someone else, it was still his body and bore the name Seidou Takizawa.

“We love you, you know.” A third, slightly groggy voice added in. Seidou sat up properly, looking at Amon.

“Sorry, were we too loud?” Akira asked, but Amon gently shook his head.

“No, I was already waking up anyways,” he said. “Seidou. Back on Rushima, if I had to do all of that again just to make sure you were safe, I’d do it in a heartbeat.” Akira nodded in agreement. Seidou nuzzled in close, something he was still trying to get used to after going so long without any sort of non-confrontational touch.

“…then you two are idiots.” Seidou whispered, smiling.

“Your idiots,” Akira retorted, while Amon roughed up his hair and the three laughed as the fire continued on.
