Work Text:
She doesn't remember walking through the halls or even making it to her mother's room. The doctor said the cops were still with her. Her mother, the encourager, the supporter. Always telling her she was more level headed than most.
The detectives barging in on her while she was arraigning a client is loud in her mind. She's in love with him and her mother has been so happy to see her and Billy yesterday. "Your mother is in the hospital and she's being assessed." Running out of her office and it's the last thing she remembers.
"We heard a knock on the door. My husband answered." She has been so worried about her mom, she forgot. *And detective Benson was with him?" Her mom nodding, a fear in her eyes. "I had never seen her before. She was in front of him. Lewis aimed him gun at my husband and fired."
Horror rattling her body. They had been the safe harbor outside of school for her. And the example she wanted in her own life, thinking Billy could possibly be that for her. "And what happened next?" Her mother's eyes are off in some distant place. "He had a hand of her neck, to keep her moving, asked me to get rope. He tied her to the dining room chair."
She hasn't read any of the reports. There hasn't been time. "I know this next part is hard, so take your time." She has seen Detective Tutuola before. He is speaking really soft to her mother and he's being patient.
"He made her watch. I haven't been with anyone other than my husband. It hurt." Tears and anger on her mom's face. Her and Billy have not had sex, getting involved with a client is against the rules she couldn't help herself. He had been so charming. "If she looked away he got rougher. She tried to get him to stop.
He was trying to show her what was in store for her. She passed out." Her mother laying her head back, she's exhausted and probably in pain. "Did he use a condoms?" She had not gotten to that part. Her mind is still reeling that this is happening. "No, he was looking at her and said he wanted me to feel him after it was over." For the first time, since meeting him her body has cold chills. That is the most disgusting.
Mother looking at her for the first time. "I was happy when you brought him home. You pushed so hard to be a lawyer, I wanted you have something for your efforts. But there was a look in his eyes during dinner. Cold, sinister, happy. I wanted to be wrong. When he showed up, I knew." She's crying again.
Throwing their arms around each other. Tutuola is quiet, this has been really hard. "What happens now? Have you found Benson?" She is not going by the book on this, it's her mother this happened to. "There is no sign of either one. The emergency care has already given her an examination. It was positive for fluids.
"She can't back back home, we are still processing the scene." She understands procedure. "She will stay with me and we will plan papas funeral." It's the only thing they can do right now.
