Chapter Text
Chilled slunk into the camp, noticing only one of the guards was up. He was walking the perimeter and Chilled crept past him.
The guard had red hair, and was wearing some leather armor with a wooden shield. A druid. That could be dangerous if Chilled alerted him that he was there.
Chilled crept into the first tent, a dark orange one. Inside was a viking, looking dead asleep. Chilled lucked out, finding the sword and grabbing it. It turned invisible in his hand and he exited the tent. When he was halfway through the camp and nearly out of there, he heard a shout.
The guard had seen him, but how? It was only then that Chilled realized he was no longer invisible.
“Shit,” he breathed out. The barbarian looking viking came out looking pretty angry and soon another guy did too. He wore leather armor and he drew a bow.
“Apollo, what-” the viking started to ask.
“Get him!!” the druid-Apollo- yelled. Chilled could only hope that the yell would alert his friends. It didn’t seem to as the viking attacked him.
“GIVE THAT BACK!” The viking pulled out a battleaxe and swung it violently towards Chilled. It slammed into his chest and sent him stumbling backwards. The viking brought down another blow and it hit Chilleds arm.
“Nice Skadj,” the fighter said and Skadj looked delirious with rage still.
“Just finish the job Greg,” Apollo said to the fighter.
“Happily,”
Chilled needed to get out of there.
He loved to fight, he truly did but right now he needed to run as fast as possible back to his friends.
He broke into a full on sprint, managing to doge the few attacks that the guards made at him.
“HELP!” Chilled called out as he approached his group. They all looked up and got ready to fight. Chilled was shot by three arrows in the back and he turned to face the archer. Greg wore a smirk as Apollo"s eyes glowed.
Apollo morphed into a dire wolf and lunged towards Chilled, who managed to dodge it despite the incredible amount of pain he was in. Skadj finally caught up to the group and Chilled held the Bread sword in his hands. If they were going to fight, then he might as well use it.
Sidearms swung his flail around, slamming it into Apollo"s side. The wolf howled in pain as Speedy slammed his morningstar into the wolf two other times. He wasn’t looking very good due to the few hits.
Jeremy took two swipes at Greg with his daggers but Greg only laughed and danced out of the way. Kara aimed at Greg, firing a freezing cold ray that streaked right past him. She narrowed her eyes as he gave her a smirk.
Larry lunged at Greg as well, but his hands made contact. Black magic spread through Gregs chest where Larry got his hands on him. “Ha, Inflict much damage?” Larry taunted as Greg howled in pain.
“Guys, Run!” Chilled shouted and he started moving again. The rest of his crew followed shortly, the last thing they wanted to do was fight these guys. Once they had some distance between them, Larry turned around and played a chord on his lute.
“Wall of Force!” he shouted and nothing seemed to happen. They all watched though as the guards were separated from them, and they were all able to slow back down and start walking.
“What the hell Kara?” Chilled asked and looked at the sorceress. The party stopped walking and turned to face them, watching as Chilled crossed his arms and glared.
“What?” Kara looked so innocent and thrown off from Chilled that he instantly felt bad.
“I’m sorry. Its just I got the sword then my invisibility dropped the instant I was halfway out of there,”
“I’m sorry. I’m still getting used to the wand, I guess it takes more concentration than what I’m used to. I didn’t mean for you to get caught,” she said softly. Chilled let out a sigh and shook his head.
“Sorry for getting mad. I just didn’t expect to be caught and nearly killed within an instant. That barbarian, Skadj I think, was pretty tough,”
“Speaking of tough, let"s get you guys back to town,” Sidearms said and Chilled hesitated. “What?”
“Can we keep the sword?” he asked and Speedy and Sidearms both looked at each other.
“No? It belongs to our town,” Speedy said
“Listen guys, we don"t want to fight you but we can if we have to,” Jeremy said to them.
“That would be a very unfair fight my guy. Four of us versus two of you,” Larry said. “May I suggest taking a nap?” he asked and started to play a calming tune on his lute. Sidearms collapsed then and there, falling asleep. Speedy stared at Larry in horror and Larry kept strumming away.
“Fine, take it. Geez, and I thought you were good people,” he said and the group started to walk away. Speedy just watched them silently as they left.
It took three more days to get back to the tree that led into the underground bunker. When they returned they slid down the ladder and into the base.
“You returned!” Junk said. “And you have the sword!” He looked so happy and relieved.
“Well done, bring it over here,” Platy said and Chilled did. He set it on the table and Platy started to study it with Shelbys help.
“How did it go?” Courtilly asked as she came over to the four.
“We ran into some trouble but overall we got the job done with…minimal injuries,” Chilled explained. He felt happy though, hopefully it would give them some time to relax and properly rest before they went after the next thing. Whichever one that was.
Platy eventually called them all over to the table and Shelby began chanting words in a different language. The sword began to glow and the world changed in front of Chilled’s eyes. He was standing in a museum, staring at the flute.
Then the image shifted again, and he was staring at a sign. They were heading to A Starri Town. That’s where the flute was being kept.
Then the image showed three girls, one that used the very flute they were after, one that sported a bow and a fancy outfit, and one that held a staff. The three girls put the flute in the case, and Chilled had a feeling that they were the only ones who could get it out.
