Undercover affection

Summary:

TJ and Spinelli are attending a high school party in their senior year. They’ve been dating secretly but are planning to use the party as a chance to be closer without anyone noticing. However, their sneaky plans are disrupted when they’re caught making out and face a series of questions from their friends, who are more interested in the outcome of a bet than the details of their relationship.

Work Text:

The house was alive with chatter, laughter, and upbeat music as TJ and Spinelli entered the packed living room. It was a typical senior party, bustling with energy and a mix of familiar faces. Spinelli looked around, taking in the scene with a smirk. “Seems like a pretty wild party.”

“Yeah,” TJ agreed, “and it’s only going to get crazier.” He squeezed her hand lightly, a subtle gesture of affection that only they knew the full meaning of.

As the evening went on, the party became more lively. TJ and Spinelli navigated through groups of friends, exchanged greetings, and participated in a few games. They both kept their relationship low-key, not drawing attention to the fact that they were more than just friends.

“We should sneak off for a bit,” Spinelli suggested, glancing around to ensure no one was paying them too much attention.

TJ’s eyes lit up with a mischievous glint. “Sounds like a plan. Let’s find a quieter spot.”

They slipped out of the living room, moving towards a more secluded area of the house—a small study with a door that led to a private patio. The cool night air was a refreshing change from the heat inside. They sat on the porch, their fingers entwined.

“I’m glad we could get away from all the noise,” Spinelli said, her eyes meeting TJ’s. “It’s nice to have a moment to ourselves.”

TJ nodded, leaning closer. “Yeah, me too.” He gently cupped her face and leaned in for a kiss. It started soft and tender, but quickly grew more passionate as they both gave in to their emotions. They lost themselves in the moment, oblivious to the fact that someone had followed them.

Suddenly, the door creaked open, and a few partygoers stepped onto the patio. TJ and Spinelli pulled apart quickly, their faces flushed. The intruders were a mix of curious classmates, including Ashley A., who had a smirk on her face.

“Well, well, well,” Ashley A. said, her eyes twinkling with mischief. “What do we have here?”

Spinelli’s eyes widened in surprise. “Ashley! What are you doing here?”

“Just checking out the scene,” Ashley A. replied. “But it looks like I stumbled upon something interesting.”

The rest of the group—Vince, Gretchen, Mikey, and Gus—had followed Ashley A. They were all watching TJ and Spinelli with a mix of shock and amusement.

“So, what’s the deal here?” Vince asked, crossing his arms. “Are you two actually together?”

TJ and Spinelli exchanged a nervous glance. “Well, yeah,” TJ admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. “We’ve been dating for a while, but we wanted to keep it low-profile.”

“Low-profile, huh?” Gretchen said, raising an eyebrow. “Well, we’ve got a bit of a situation.”

Mikey leaned in, his curiosity piqued. “What’s the situation?”

Gus grinned. “There’s a bet going around about whether or not you two were a couple. Some people thought you were just friends, while others suspected there was something more. And now, it looks like the bet’s been settled.”

TJ and Spinelli looked at each other, feeling a mix of embarrassment and relief. “So, everyone’s been betting on us?” Spinelli asked, trying to hide her irritation.

“Yeah,” Ashley A. confirmed. “And now that the truth is out, we need to know everything. How long have you two been together? How did it start?”

The questions came fast and furious. Spinelli and TJ, still trying to catch their breath from their earlier kiss, had to answer the barrage of inquiries. They explained how they’d been dating in secret and why they’d kept it under wraps.

“Well, now that it’s out in the open,” Ashley A. said with a grin, “you two should totally embrace it. You’re obviously into each other, so why not show it?”

TJ looked at Spinelli, a small smile spreading across his face. “I guess there’s no reason to hide it anymore.”

Spinelli nodded, her eyes meeting his with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. “Yeah, let’s just go with it.”

With that, they turned back to the group. TJ wrapped an arm around Spinelli’s shoulders, pulling her close. They shared a few more kisses, now more openly affectionate in front of their friends. The teasing had turned into genuine support and congratulatory cheers from the group.

As the night progressed, TJ and Spinelli felt liberated. They weren’t just making out on a secluded patio—they were openly displaying their affection, holding hands, and stealing kisses in front of their friends. The party became a celebration of their relationship, with everyone cheering them on.

“Looks like we’re the center of attention now,” TJ said with a chuckle as they returned to the main party area, their hands intertwined.

Spinelli grinned up at him. “Yeah, but it’s not so bad. It feels good to finally be open about us.”

As they joined the crowd, the atmosphere was one of acceptance and excitement. The teasing had transformed into a celebration of their relationship, and TJ and Spinelli enjoyed the rest of the party with a newfound sense of freedom and happiness. Their secret was out, and they were ready to embrace their relationship fully, no longer hiding in the shadows but shining brightly under the party lights.
