They, without a doubt, care about each other. The affection between Rainbow Taxi members is boundless, but is that because they're teammates? A sense of protection like family? Of course, they're each other's family because families are formed by feelings. However, with all the layers of words for these concerns, On Hajoon can distinguish the limits. These two people, without a doubt, love each other.
On Hajoon saw it clearly. In fact, he was spying on purpose, and information about the five of them was summarized in red nets on the wall.
Kim Doki would pull the corners of his lips upwards whenever he exchanged greetings with Goeun while heading to his orange taxi. Then, when Goeun was no longer looking, the smile would widen again a few degrees. He seems content—too pleased—to start the day by seeing Ahn Goeun. It could be that what uplifted him was not the tiny glass of caffeine in his hand but the radiant aura Ahn Goeun exuded. Hajoon watched the view from a high place that offered an objective viewpoint.
Days passed, and what Hajoon found each day was confirmation of his preconceived notions. Prejudices, both about his dark plans going awry as well as about Kim Doki and Ahn Goeun. If he was this itchy, what about Chairman Jang, Mr. Park, and Mr. Choi, who witnessed their interactions more often? Hajoon secretly appreciated the three of them for being able to restrain themselves from quickly marrying Doki to Goeun.
So, according to Hajoon, it wasn't an exaggeration when he threatened Doki with long sentences about Goeun. He's been holding back well all this time.
"Goeun-sshi who was right outside the prison walls. Touching, isn't it?"
Hajoon didn't expect the sentence to feel so pleasant when spoken this way.
"She has been constantly helping you just like a wife supporting her husband in prison."
Precisely in the words of the wife and husband. Hajoon did not forget that the chief mourner for Kim Doki's death was Ahn Goeun. Every visitor can easily think that she is a wife whose husband died.
"I'm assuming that she also means a lot to you."
On the cold ground, Hajoon remembered the greeting and wave given by Mr. Park with Mr. Choi. He remembered taking Doki-hyeong's hand as he said goodbye. He remembered Chairman Jang's concerns, asking about his condition instead of the crushed taxi. He remembered the little fight over the unit with Goeun-sshi in the cab that Doki-hyeong was driving—that was when Hajoon witnessed them at a very close distance.
Goeun-sshi who gave a thousand arguments, refused to give up, and Doki-hyeong who smiled with pleasure. Maybe Doki-hyeong felt that Goeun insisted on staying near him, and that made him incredibly pleased.
At that time, Goeun-sshi was looking for a house. Hajoon gulped down saliva that was mixed with blood. Maybe after he leaves, Goeun-sshi can return to the unit.
Then Doki-hyeong and Goeun-sshi will live in the same place again. Maybe not long after that, they will move in together and buy a house to live in.
The type of house they went to wasn't bad. Warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Windows are designed so that the room gets sunlight and cool breezes. However, Hajoon thinks that Doki and Goeun's house should have a vast roof, as in the house Doki lives in now. The roof isn't very high, but they can see the cityscape and majestic sky.
How nice it would be if he could do that for them.
Kim Danwoo imagined himself finding a house for Kim Doki and Ahn Gouen.
