Touya huffed and looked up at the ceiling. He was lying peacefully on his bed, scrolling through Twitter when he heard a faint knocking on his door. Ugh . Touya knew exactly Shoto was behind that door. Ever since the little twerp could walk, he would always sneak into Touya’s room when he was not home. Jumping on his bed, playing Touya’s games, and messing with his clothes. Touya had already complained to his mom and even his dad, but both of them said to just let his baby brother be. He was annoyed obviously, not to mention, fed up with always having to clean his room after Shoto’s ‘playtime’ in there. Still, hearing those sniffles outside his door, Touya eventually dragged himself out of the bed and opened the door.
Shoto was standing there with tears all over his face. He brought his blankie with him and looked up at Touya. Touya sighed and pat Shoto on the head.
“Nightmare?”, Touya asked.
Shoto nodded and Touya finally let Shoto step into his room. His baby brother came in but kept standing awkwardly in front of him. What a brat , Touya thought. Being all quiet now when he knew Shoto would raid his room every chance he got. Still, Touya couldn’t help but coo at his baby brother. He grabbed some tissue from his table and crouched down to wipe Shoto’s face.
“There, you’re all good now! Let’s go to bed, okay”
Shoto climbed onto the bed and Touya quickly settled himself beside his baby brother. Touya glanced at the clock on his bedside, it was a little past midnight and Touya was already so sleepy. He pulled the blanket to cover Shoto and slowly drifted to sleep.
“Touya-nii”, Shoto called out to him.
Touya sighed and turned to Shoto, “What is it Shoto?”
“I’m thirsty”
Well, this was not Touya’s first rodeo. He sat and took Shoto into his arms. They quietly went into the kitchen and grabbed some water. Then, Shoto decided that he was hungry too. No surprise either. Touya reached for the top shelf, they got some ramen, and well he was a bit hungry himself. Touya was preparing for the high school entrance exam so he had been studying extra hours now. Shoto sat quietly while Touya finally served him his noddle in a small bowl. Touya ate silently while Shoto was rambling about how he had found a huge beetle in their backyard that day. Honestly, this situation was not completely annoying, Touya was busy lately and did not have enough time to play with his siblings. Usually, he would play soccer with Natsu and Fuyumi while Shoto watched from the sideline, throwing a fit because he couldn’t walk yet to join them playing.
“Touya-nii, I’m done!”, Shoto declared proudly with his empty bowl.
“Good job. Now wait up while I wash our bowls okay? Otherwise, mom’s gonna scold us tomorrow”
“Okay!”
Shoto continued rambling about all kinds of things, and Touya just occasionally hummed and nodded. He felt kinda bad really. Shoto was not in school yet so he didn’t have any friends. Dad was busy with work and rarely spent his time at home, Natsu and Fuyumi were also becoming teenagers who wanted to hang out with their friends twenty-four-seven. Mom was always home with Shoto though, but well, of course, his baby brother was too energetic and often wore out their mom. Touya knew his four-year-old baby brother was just lonely and wanted his family to play with him. Touya sighed and looked back at little Shoto, his baby brother finally grew sleepy and dozed off at the table.
“Dishes are done! Let’s go to bed now, Shoto”
Shoto just groaned as Touya carried him on his arm. He gently placed him on the bed and covered Shoto with a blanket. Touya was tired now, and luckily, Shoto was already snoring softly on his chest, clutching Touya’s shirt tightly as if his big brother would leave him alone in the middle of the night. Touya slowly closed his eyes and drifted to sleep with Shoto at his side. Luckily, Touya was pretty calm while sleeping so he wouldn’t accidentally knock Shoto or something. And his baby brother didn’t box him in his sleep too, so, Touya actually enjoyed Shoto’s company. After all, the weather was beginning to get cold, and having Shoto here hugging him, sure made, Touya’s night a bit warmer.
