Patrick quirked a smile and Art got the strange feeling they had had this conversation a thousand times before.
He realized only recently that most people thought Patrick was a rough around the edges, impressively detached, can’t-be-bothered professional. And in all fairness, he could come across that way. Patrick was all full smiles and reserved sincerity, a firm handshake and a mantled intention. His confidence was less of a veil as it was a curtain. He was a little like Tashi, in that way. The face they put on for the cameras and the fanatics was the same one they showed to each other in moments of conflict. Art had tried on the same mask many times. It never tied around his heart like it should have. He wore his every feeling on his face.banger
