Work Text:
Levi wandered quietly around the semi busy streets of Liberio. Most of the soldiers within the Survey Corps had infiltrated the Eldian internment zone in preparation for the attack they knew was to come in about a month’s time. It was way in advance but they were taking extra time as an extra precaution and because they were unsure of Eren’s current movements. He had forced their hand and they had no choice but to follow him in fear of him being killed. They couldn’t lose the founder so they had to follow.
Thus, Levi was now casually strolling the streets of Liberio trying to kill time.
It was an average city. Many people had their shops open where they were selling whatever product would make them money whether that be food, flowers, or something else. Even though the internment zone kept the Eldians hidden away because everyone outside deemed them to be “spawn of the devil”, there was still a strong sense of community that was welcoming to some extent.
Regardless, Levi himself didn’t care a great deal about staying in areas with large groups of people for extended periods of time so he eventually ducked into an alleyway so he could escape for just a little while. Once in the alleyway, he sighed and turned a corner he knew was a shortcut back to the Survey Corps’ “hideout’ but was surprised to see that there was someone already standing there.
This man was quite tall, at least compared to Levi. He had golden hair styled into an undercut and his eyebrows seemed to be fairly big. There was a cigarette tucked between the man’s fingers. He placed it between his lips and took a deep breath before closing his eyes and breathing out a puff of smoke. Levi’s face scrunched up but he was still enamored by this man’s beauty.
The man opened his eyes and went to take another breath of his cigarette when his eyes were suddenly drawn to Levi’s presence. Levi visibly tensed up as he didn’t anticipate being noticed.
“Care to share a smoke?” The man asked with a smile.
That voice. It touched Levi’s soul immediately. It was as smooth as butter and very soothing from its deep tone. Levi took a sort of deep breath and walked closer to the man.
“Sorry but I don’t smoke.”
The man nodded.
“Suit yourself,” he said and took another drag of his cigarette.
Levi grimaced again but stayed next to the man and began to observe him more closely.
This man was wearing a long tan coat that was similar to the green ones they wore back on Paradis Island. There seemed to be several sorts of medals adorning the left chest pocket so it was clear he was an accomplished member of the military. Levi then noticed his arm band. It wasn’t beige with black stripes like Eldian civilians wore nor was it yellow to signify he was a Warrior candidate. This man’s arm band was red; he was a warrior with the power of the Titans.
“You’re a Warrior?” Levi asked.
The man looked at Levi.
“You surprised?” He asked.
“I guess so. Not very common to see people wearing red armbands.”
“You’re right,” he said with a slight chuckle,” what’s your name?”
Levi looked at the man with a questioning look but felt comfortable when he was met with a reassuring smile.
“Levi.”
“No last name?”
“Of course I have one. I just don’t like to acknowledge my family,” Levi lied, hopefully convincingly.
“That’s understandable,” the man said and threw his cigarette on the ground before turning to Levi and holding out his hand,” my name is Erwin Smith. It’s nice to meet you Levi.”
Levi took Erwin’s hand and shook it.
“If you don’t mind my asking, which of the nine Titans do you have?” He asked.
“I was entrusted with the power of the Jaw Titan. I’m only about four years into my term.”
“Is it hard?”
“It can be at times. But it’s still a great honor and privilege because my family can live easier lives as Honorary Marleyans. That was my main motivation for becoming a warrior in the first place, I wanted things to be better for them,” Erwin explained.
Levi hummed.
“You don’t look like you’re from around here. Are you perhaps from an internment zone abroad?”
“You could say that…” Levi muttered. Did Paradis Island technically count as an internment zone for Eldians? Depending on who was asked, maybe.
“Where are you from?” Erwin asked.
“I’d rather not talk about it. Things were a bit rough where I come from.”
“That’s okay,” Erwin responded with a nod although eyeing Levi slightly suspiciously,” I’ve heard that internment zones are far more harsh to Eldians in other countries than in Marley and things are already quite terrible here. I’m sure your life wasn’t easy.”
“It definitely wasn’t.”
The two stood together in silence for a minute or so before Erwin turned to Levi again.
“Would you like to join me for dinner tonight?” Erwin asked.
Levi’s eyes widened a little.
“What?”
“Would you like to join me for dinner tonight?” Erwin repeated.
“We just met, I don’t know you.”
“You’re right. But how will we ever get to know each other better if we never spend time together?”
Levi looked away.
“Besides, as a Warrior, I can get us into a pretty good restaurant. It’s probably better than anything you had back home.”
“Yeah…I suppose you’re right.”
Levi looked at the ground as he thought over Erwin’s offer. Going to dinner with a complete stranger who happened to be a Warrior in the Marleyan military was definitely a huge risk considering he came from Paradis. But at the same time, Levi thought that it could turn out to be vital for their mission. He could get to know this man and his weaknesses which could turn out to be useful during the upcoming attack or they could become friendly and then have an ally. It was a risk for sure but Levi knew he’d be able to handle himself if anything happened.
“You know what, fuck it. I’ll join you for dinner.”
Erwin smiled at Levi.
“Meet me back here around six o’clock and we’ll get going.”
Levi nodded.
“I’ll see you later Levi,” Erwin said while waving as he walked away.
“Yeah. You too.”
<><><><><><>
“Levi, where are you going?”
Levi finished putting on his jacket, hat, and fake armband. He patted himself down so everything looked neat before he turned and looked back at Hange.
“I’m going out.”
“You’re going out? Where?”
“To dinner.”
“Are you going by yourself?”
“I’m actually going with someone I met earlier today.”
“You’re going to dinner with a complete stranger? From Marley no less?” Hange asked, worry etched into their expression,” Levi’ that’s so dangerous!”
“Well the fucker offered and I figured that we could use him to our advantage if it came down to it so I agreed. Besides, I can very easily handle myself if I have to.”
“But Levi-”
“I don’t care to discuss this right now Hange. I’m leaving.”
Levi left the room before Hange could respond again. Walking quickly, he made his way back to the small alleyway area where he’d met Erwin earlier. To his surprise, the man wasn’t there yet. Levi pulled out his pocket watch and double checked to make sure he had the right time; he did, his watch read six o’clock. Levi sighed and leaned up against the wall while crossing his arms.
“Hey! Sorry I’m late!”
Levi turned his head and saw Erwin running up to him.
“I hope you haven’t been waiting too long,” Erwin said apologetically.
“I just arrived a minute or so ago. It’s no problem,” Levi responded, forgetting any frustrations he’d had.
“That’s a relief,” Erwin laughed,” shall we get going?”
Levi nodded and followed Erwin out of the alleyway and towards the gate at the edge of the internment zone.
“Wait...you’re taking us outside of the internment zone?” Levi asked, a little surprised.
“Mhm,” Erwin hummed,” because of my status as a Warrior, I have a few special privileges which includes being able to eat at a restaurant outside Liberio. The family that runs it is one of a very small group that doesn’t hate us Eldians so they give me a pretty good deal. And besides, I was leaving the internment zone for dinner tonight anyway so I have exit papers just in case.”
“But I don't-”
“Shh. Just trust me Levi.”
Erwin approached the two guards stationed at the gate. He explained that he was heading to dinner and that Levi was his guest, a new friend. Both guards smiled and congratulated Erwin on said new friend before letting them through the gates. Levi glanced back at them as they passed by.
“You seemed to be quite friendly with those guards,” Levi commented.
“Yeah those two are actually quite nice and some of the few Marleyans who don’t hate us or spit at us everytime we walk by. They’re also really friendly with the current group of Warrior candidates.”
Levi was unsure of what to say. All he’d ever heard based on the information they’d learned from the journals left by Eren’s father and the Marleyan volunteers was that people outside of the internment zone hated Eldians and pushed the rhetoric that they were all spawned from the devil. Yet now Levi was being told that there were actually people who didn’t share that same thought process. It wasn’t what he was expecting but he was at least pleasantly surprised.
“You’re quiet. Everything okay?” Erwin asked.
Levi looked up at Erwin when he was pulled from his thoughts and then back ahead.
“I’m fine. Just a bit surprised I guess.”
“By what?”
“How some people in Marley don’t hate Eldians. They don’t seem to subscribe to the same ideology as everyone else or spew all of that rhetoric.”
“Yeah those public security officers are definitely a rare breed you could say. I’m sure there was no one like that where you came from.”
“Not at all.”
Levi guessed that wasn’t entirely a lie.
The rest of the walk to the restaurant was silent between them. Levi stayed close to Erwin as he noticed all of the nasty glares they were getting; some he could specifically tell were directed at him since he clearly wasn’t a Warrior. Tons of comments were thrown their way and Levi kept glancing at them from the corner of his eye. Erwin however continued on, not paying them any mind. He was unfortunately used to this and he had learned to ignore it over the years.
Levi himself wasn’t super concerned with the comments themselves but being in a new environment where there were so many hostile people did have him on edge a bit.
“Dirty spawn of the devil!”
Levi felt something wet hit the side of his cheek and he looked to see a group of younger Marleyans spitting at them. Levi glared at them darkly and moved to confront them but was stopped by Erwin putting an arm around his shoulder, pulling him close.
“The fuck-“
“Shh. Just go with it,” Erwin interrupted,” and just ignore them. It’s better for your safety that way.”
Levi was going to protest but saw the look on Erwin’s face and decided to just accept it. He wiped the spit off of his cheek while clicking his tongue; those kids were truly disgusting. At least he had Erwin there with him to serve as some kind of comfort and reassurance that he couldn’t act out.
“Ah! We’re here.”
Erwin stopped in front of a building and Levi looked up at it. The building seemed to blend into the others on the street; the only way you could tell it was a restaurant was the sign and different style of windows on the front.
“After you,” Erwin said and held out his arm.
Levi walked in front of Erwin and through the doors of the restaurant. Once inside, a cheerful woman walked up to them.
“Ah, Vice Captain Smith. It’s good to see you again.”
“Likewise,” Erwin responded with a smile.
“Would you like your usual table?”
“Yes please.”
The woman grabbed two menus and guided Erwin and Levi to what seemed to be a private room separate from the rest of the restaurant. Erwin pulled out a chair at the table for Levi. Levi gave him a slightly confused look and Erwin responded with a reassuring smile. Erwin sat across from Levi and thanked the woman before she left.
“This is quite a nice room,” Levi commented.
“It is. Being a Warrior with the power of the Titans does have its occasional benefits when outside the internment zone,” Erwin said and picked up his menu.
Levi also picked up his menu although he simply used it to hide his nervous expression and reddened cheeks. There was something about this man that made Levi feel so comfortable and warm inside. He was charming and very handsome as well. It had been a long time since he’d been so flustered over meeting someone, it was a strange feeling.
‘Get yourself together Levi, you’re from Paradis Island. There’s no way someone living in Marley would be interested in you. Besides, you should be focusing on your mission, not catching feelings for someone,’ Levi thought.
“What are you going to order?”
Erwin’s smooth voice pulled Levi from his thoughts.
“Sorry?” Levi asked.
“I asked what you were going to order,” Erwin repeated with a smile.
“Oh um...I’ll just have whatever you order. There’s too many choices on this menu.”
“Are you alright Levi? You seem nervous.”
“Yeah I’m fine,” Levi said as he thought of an excuse,” I just feel a little weird being in a restaurant outside of Liberio, I’m not used to leaving that often. And those stupid kids, they spit on me. I’m…I’m disgusted.”
“I’m very sorry that happened to you Levi. But unfortunately we have to sit back and accept it because if we retaliate, we face being sent to Paradise along with our families,” Erwin said,” although if you’re ever willing to leave the internment zone again in the future, then you could always come with me. Marleyans usually leave me alone so that might eventually come to benefit you.”
Levi nodded and looked back down, burying his face in his menu. His heart was pounding and he could feel his cheeks growing warmer by the second. This wasn’t a date, this wasn’t a date, it was only a friendly outing. Nothing more, nothing less. Erwin offering to take Levi out to dinner tonight and again in the future wasn’t a romantic offer, it was just meant to get to know him better. He was just being friendly by offering to help Levi get acquainted with being outside of Liberio. It was just a friendly gesture…
“Are you sure you’re okay Levi? Your face is all red.”
Levi’s eyes widened and he moved the menu higher to hide more of his face.
“Shit…”
Erwin laughed a bit.
“You’re not actually nervous about being outside the walls are you?” He asked,"Are you nervous because of me?”
‘Shit…he’s smart,’ Levi thought.
Erwin laughed again when Levi didn’t respond.
“What’s so funny?” Levi asked with a bite in his voice as he nearly slammed the menu down on the table.
“Nothing. I just think you’re actually kind of cute when you’re flustered.”
Levi's eyes widened. Cute? Did this stranger just call him cute?
“I’m sorry?”
“I said I think you’re cute.”
Levi clicked his tongue. His mind was going blank, he had no clue what to say. He was hoping, praying that someone would come and save him from the awkward situation he’d found himself in. He couldn’t handle this amount of attention
“Are you two ready to order?”
‘Oh thank god,’ Levi thought.
A waitress came over to greet them. Her expression seemed friendly at first but changed to one of disgust as she realized that they were both wearing Eldian armbands.
“Yes. I’d like some water and the steak with potatoes,” Erwin said.
“And you sir?” The waitress asked, turning to Levi.
“I’ll have the same but with tea instead of water.”
The waitress wrote the orders down, took their menus, and then walked away while mumbling something about being forced to serve evil devils. Levi scoffed at her once she was fully gone.
“Someone has a stick up their ass.”
Erwin chuckled.
“Yeah unfortunately most outside the internment zone are like that. Being friendly with the owners here is good because they at least try to make sure their staff doesn’t treat me or any other Eldians that come in in an adverse manner,” Erwin explained,” so anyways about our earlier conversation-“
“Yeah you said you thought I was cute,” Levi interjected,” you’re putting your eggs in the wrong basket if you ask me.”
“Why's that?”
“Quite a few reasons actually, most I don’t care to discuss with you right now. The obvious one is that we just met each other today. Isn’t it weird to admit you think someone is cute when you’ve just met them?”
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with complimenting people.”
Another one of those bright, charming smiles. Why was that smile of his so captivating and why did it make Levi’s brain go absolutely haywire? He didn’t even know himself, but he did love that smile.
“Shit…” Levi cursed under his breath and covered his face with his hand.
“You say it’s weird to call you cute because we’ve only just met today. Why don’t we change that then?” Erwin asked.
“What do you mean?”
“We could spend some time together tomorrow if you’re open to doing so. I’ve got a day off from my Warrior duties so we could get to know each other.”
Levi was about to reject the offer out of pure embarrassment but then stopped to think about it further. Would it really be so bad to spend some time with this handsome stranger? Would getting to know him be such a bad idea? He hadn’t come off as suspicious and Levi did feel quite comfortable with him.
“Yeah sure.”
<><><><><><>
A month had passed and Levi found himself falling for Erwin more and more each day. The two had grown quite close to a point where Erwin was comfortable asking Levi to be his boyfriend. Levi had almost smacked Erwin into the next century for even thinking of asking but accepted the offer anyway because he did have strong feelings for him as well.
But still, Levi wondered if it was a good decision. He had fallen for someone who was supposed to be their enemy and was letting himself be vulnerable. There was a very present doubt in Levi’s mind that Erwin would use their relationship against him in the future, especially if he discovered he was from Paradis Island.
And yet Levi still cared deeply for Erwin. Despite his doubts, Erwin had been nothing but loving and kind. Levi never felt like he was in danger when he was with him and did feel he could be trusted. This brought even more doubts upon his mind because he also worried about the fact that he had been lying to Erwin by omission for a while.
Levi had never told Erwin his true origins, never told him that he came from Paradis Island and he felt bad about it. It was a massive risk given the Survey Corps position but he wanted to be honest and truthful with his partner because that’s what it meant to be in a relationship with someone.
Maybe he should take that risk…
Erwin and Levi were standing in the alleyway where they’d first met chatting about Erwin’s duties from earlier that day. Levi hadn’t said much as he listened to him which eventually caught his attention.
“You doing alright Levi? You’ve been awfully quiet today.”
“Yeah I just, there’s something that’s been on my mind and I’ve been unsure if I should tell you…” Levi said hesitantly.
“What’s wrong? You know you can be honest with me.”
“I know but with this, I worry about what would happen once I tell you. It…it could be dangerous for me and my friends.”
Erwin frowned and put his arm around the smaller male to comfort him.
“Levi you know I wouldn’t hurt you. You can tell me anything.”
Levi sighed and hugged himself.
“Please, please keep this between us. You can not tell anyone, not even your closest friends or family.”
“I promise Levi. You can trust me.”
Levi took a deep breath.
“I haven’t been truthful to you about where I come from.”
“Hey, I don't care about that. I don’t care where you came from at all.”
“That might change when I tell you.”
“Don’t be so sure,” Erwin tried to reassure,” where do you come from?”
Levi took another, longer deep breath and looked up and down the alley to make absolutely sure that there was no one there listening to them.
“I’m not from an internment zone abroad.”
“Where are you from then?”
“I came here from Paradis Island.”
Erwin blinked, not fully comprehending what Levi had said at first. He was from Paradis Island? How? Weren’t they locked away in the walls completely unaware of what was beyond them? That’s what Reiner had mentioned when he returned from his mission. How was someone from Paradis in Marley and how had Erwin found and fallen in love with one of them?
“Levi you...you’re joking right?”
Levi shook his head.
“It’s true. I was born within the walls on Paradis Island. I’m one of those “island devils” you hate so much.”
Erwin looked at the ground. Like every other Eldian living in Marley, he had been raised to believe that everyone who lived on the island were evil, horrid devils and that they were the reason why Eldians living in other countries were discriminated against. He’d never hated them as strongly as say Gabi, but he still strongly disliked them because of what he’d been told to believe growing up.
But now he was dating one, he was in love with one of the so called ‘devils’. Knowing this now, that Levi was from Paradis, his beliefs had been suddenly turned upside down. If all of the island devils were as amazing as Levi was, were they all really that bad?
“How did you get here?” Erwin asked.
“A boat.” Levi responded shortly.
Erwin laughed a bit.
“I really like your sense of humor.”
“I wasn’t trying to be funny. I did come here on a boat.”
“I know, silly. I guess what I meant was how did you get here without no one in the Marleyan military noticing you?” Erwin asked,” are there others here as well?”
“Well we had help from someone and yes, there are others here,” Levi responded.
Erwin nodded and looked at the ground. He was still all sorts of confused but he was also realizing that this fact about Levi really didn’t bother him all that much. Sure it was shocking but he loved Levi for Levi.
Levi began to worry even more because Erwin went silent for several minutes. He thought for sure that Erwin would not only end things but also hand him over to the military which would certainly be the end of him. Besides, there’s no way a Warrior like him would want to be with a so-called “island devil” like Levi.
“I’m sorry,” Levi said, beginning to leave the alleyway,” if you don’t want to be together anymore because I’m from Paradis, then I understand. Just please don’t tell anybody.”
Before Levi could walk away, Erwin grabbed his arm and turned him around; their faces now being only a few centimeters apart. Levi's face went bright red.
“You know, if all those “island devils” are as pretty as you are, I think I can be friendly with them,” Erwin said quietly into Levi’s ear.
Levi’s eyes widened.
“Y-you don’t think I’m evil? You don’t think I’m disgusting? You’re not gonna rat me out?”
“Of course not. Levi, I love you for you. I don’t care where you’re from and I’m not going to jeopardize your safety.”
A small smile formed on Levi’s face which caused Erwin to also smile.
“All I’ve ever been told growing up is that the reason Eldians suffer in Marley and across the world is because of the “devils” living on the island. I’ve only ever been told that they’re evil. But now I know that isn’t true at all,” Erwin said,” besides, even if you are considered a devil, then you’ll just have to be my devil won’t you?”
“I guess maybe I will,” Levi responded.
The two continued to look at each other.
“You know Levi, we haven’t yet shared a kiss,” Erwin said.
“You’re right,” Levi agreed.
“Would you like to change that?”
Levi nodded and without another word or hesitation, the two connected their lips in a loving kiss. It was a blissful moment for them, there was nothing in the entire world that could pull them apart, not even their social status. Nothing could take them away from each other.
“I love you Levi.”
“Mm. I love you too Erwin.”
<><><><><><>
What had happened? One minute Erwin was in the crowd with the other Warriors as they waited for Willy Tybur’s performance to begin and the next he was being led away and trapped in a hole alongside fellow Warrior Pieck. They were rescued by the Panzar Unit and Erwin was now racing to the main square to assess the situation and help his comrades.
Since he was trapped, he had no clue what had actually happened. All he knew – or at least what was obvious – was that they had been attacked by an enemy force. Was it retaliation from the Allied Forces? No, that was impossible. The sounds Erwin was hearing were unmistakably those from two titans engaging in a fight. There was no way two Marleyan controlled titans would be fighting because of the obvious risks to the lives of everyone there and because the event was important. The only possible explanation he could come up with was that the enemy forces had come from Paradis Island.
Erwin’s eyes widened in realization.
“Levi…”
Erwin sprinted to the battlefield and quickly transformed into his Titan form, running along the sides of several buildings until he could see the main square where the presentation had been happening. That’s where he could now see the Warhammer Titan in combat with what Erwin assumed to be the Attack Titan.
“What happened here?”
In addition to the Titan battle, Erwin was able to observe many humans flying through the air using some sort of device. Some seemed to have long metal rods attached to their arms while others did not. All of them seemed to also be equipped with guns which they were using to shoot at military officers stationed on the roofs of the surrounding buildings. These must be soldiers from Paradis.
Several of the soldiers with the metal rods were currently heading for Erwin as they’d noticed him when he’d arrived. Erwin snapped out of it and jumped up with great force and speed, swiping them out of the sky with his hand. Their bodies fell to the ground and Erwin climbed back up so he was on top of a building.
‘Shit...these are the true Paradis Island devils? Where is Levi? Is he with them?’ Erwin thought.
Erwin’s attention was then quickly grabbed by the Attack Titan. It had defeated the Warhammer Titan and now had the shifter in its grasp.
‘Shit...we can’t lose the Warhammer!!’
Erwin sprinted over in his titan form so he was right behind the Attack Titan. He then lunged for the nape of its neck and went to bite down. He would recover the Founding Titan, he would save the Warhammer and Liberio.
But suddenly, he couldn’t bite at all, he couldn’t use the jaws of his Titan.
‘What? I can’t bite?’
Erwin’s attention was then drawn towards a lone human who landed and skidded across the ground before flying back into the air, heading right for him. They were fast, unnaturally fast, faster than any human should be able to move even with that flying device; and to strike him with such precision on his jaw, the literal namesake of his titan, this person was special.
From far away, Erwin couldn’t tell who they were, they just seemed to be a random enemy soldier. But as they approached and he was able to see specific features on their face, he slowly began to recognize them.
“Levi…” he muttered.
Erwin quickly moved to another building away from the Attack Titan and the main square and the soldier followed him. Once at a safe enough distance, Erwin partially emerged from the nape of his titan and looked down at Levi who stood beside him and was now wearing a green cap over metal gear and a tight black suit.
“Levi what…what’s going on?!” Erwin shouted, his voice seemingly desperate.
“Tch, how convenient it is that you’re here so soon,” Levi grumbled.
“You…Levi…what’s happening? Was everything between us a lie? Why are you doing this?!”
“We didn’t have much choice,” Levi said and pointed back at the Attack Titan,” that bastard dragged us into this and we had no choice but to follow him. God what a mess he’s made.”
“You mean Eren Jaeger, the Usurper.”
“Unfortunately…”
Levi used his maneuvering gear and moved upwards so he was on the back of Erwin’s titan’s head.
“Who are you Levi? The way you moved, you were so fast and precise. I’ve been here for all of five minutes but it’s clear that none of these soldiers have that same accuracy or strength. Who or what are you?”
Levi gave a breathy laugh and averted his gaze.
“Ah that, I’d completely forgotten I wasn’t truthful about that either,” he said, his voice quiet,” I guess with these powers I’m not quite fully human am I? And omitting so much about myself, god you must think I’m awful.”
“Levi, please just be honest with me. I’ve told you I won’t be mad. Please, I just want to know what’s going on!”
Levi nodded and moved further down so he was closer to Erwin, close enough to where their noses were very nearly touching.
“You remember when we first met and I didn’t tell you my last name because I said I don’t like to acknowledge my family? Well I said that for a similar reason as to why I kept me being from Paradis a secret; to protect myself and my comrades. If I told you back then, I couldn’t have been sure how you’d react. But I guess the cat’s out of the bag now,” Levi explained, almost laughing again,” my full name is Levi Ackerman.”
Erwin’s eyes went wide. Ackerman . It all made sense now. Levi was from the ancient bloodline specifically created to serve the royal family, a bloodline of warriors. That explained his strength, his precision, his accuracy. That definitely explained why Levi hadn't been truthful about his name earlier as well. Being in Marley, using that last name openly would have put Levi in jeopardy.
“Levi Ackerman huh? That name does suit you indeed,” Erwin finally said with a near smirk.
Levi rolled his eyes and turned his head back towards the battlefield.
“I can’t guarantee your safety because I haven’t told anyone about our relationship, but I will do my best to protect you,” Levi briefly explained,” watch out for the soldiers carrying the thunder spears. If you can avoid those, you’ll have an easier chance out there.”
“Are those the big metal rods?”
“Yeah. They’re a big asset for us but could very easily kill you.”
“Got it,” Erwin said,” and if you’re gonna be protecting me, I’ll do my best to protect you as well.”
“Ha, I can handle myself.”
“I’m sure you can. But I’m not taking no for an answer.”
“Tch. Suit yourself.”
Levi was about to maneuver off of the roof but Erwin freed his left arm and reached up, grabbing Levi’s right arm to stop him. They met each other’s eyes again.
“Can I get a kiss before you go? Could be the last time we see each other.”
Levi rolled his eyes and leaned in, connecting their lips in a kiss that was way too passionate given the situation. Once their lips parted, they lingered there, the tips of their noses touching gently.
“You guys from Paradis truly are devils aren’t you?”
“I guess we are. But just remember, I’m your devil.”
Without another word, Levi maneuvered away and headed back towards the main square. Erwin smirked and moved back inside the nape of his titan.
“Yes you are Levi Ackerman. You are, without a doubt, My Devil.”
