Work Text:
“Hyung, do you know what time it is?” Namjoon said in his stern, alpha voice. He just got up from the living room couch when he heard the apartment door beep open, signaling his roommate Seokjin’s arrival.
“Uh, it’s 1:00 AM? Why?” Seokjin replied in confusion. He changed into his house slippers and passed by Namjoon who was standing with his arms crossed against his torso.
“Why are you so late?” Namjoon followed Seokjin to his bedroom. Clearly, there is something that makes Namjoon uneasy.
Seokjin was put-off by Namjoon’s tone, reminding him too much of his nagging mother. Was he being reprimanded? Why did it matter to Namjoon what time he came home? It’s not like it’s the first time it happened. “We had company dinner and went to Noraebang after,” Seokjin said, trying his best to deal with this in a completely normal way so as to not ruin his good night so far.
“Did you drink?” It is now evident that Namjoon’s tone was accusatory.
“What is it to you?” Seokjin finally faced Namjoon, annoyance apparent in his voice. He just wanted to change and rest up. He looked at Namjoon straight in the eye, trying to find the reason for his behavior. Namjoon’s dragon eyes were staring back at him. He rarely sees this version of Namjoon outside the bed, where he was glaring at him like a predator about to attack his prey.
“I saw the pregnancy test.”
Ahh, that’s what it's about. Seokjin should have known better and threw it outside their apartment when he tested earlier today before going to work. He buried it at the bottom with lots of tissues, why on earth was Namjoon able to find it? Should he lie? Pretend it was someone else’s pregnancy test? Say that it was a false alarm? He looked away, not wanting to deal with this right now. Nor tomorrow. Not ever. “It doesn’t concern you, Namjoon. Can you please leave my room?”
“How could I not be concerned when you’re pregnant, Seokjin?” There was a slight raise in the tone in Namjoon’s voice. The alpha was obviously angry.
Wow. It baffles Seokjin that Namjoon is really showing a different side of him. Namjoon had just always been gentle and soft towards Seokjin. Barely getting angry towards him, even if Seokjin insists that they have chicken instead of Namjoon’s pizza choice during their movie nights, nor when Seokjin insists to ride him when Namjoon wants to fuck him from behind, nor when Seokjin choose to take the public transport than driving to Gwacheon that one Chuseok where Seokjin brought Namjoon to his hometown. Seokjin cannot recall a time where Namjoon had ever been angry at him – not as a roommate, friend, definitely not as a lover.
“I can take care of myself, Namjoon. And now I'm tired, can you please let me rest?” Seokjin said dejectedly. He really has no energy for this right now.
“Alright, but we’ll talk tomorrow.” Namjoon knows he cannot demand more tonight, seeing Seokjin’s deflated state. He was waiting for the omega to arrive from work since seven in the evening, and he clearly couldn't help but be frustrated when Seokjin arrived so late. He left the room and closed the door gently, hoping they could address this issue soon enough.
Namjoon indeed found the pregnancy test in the bathroom trash can that morning when he accidentally dropped the shaver. It wasn’t the first time it happened, but it’s as if the universe had meant it to happen that morning. Seokjin had already left for his work at a marketing agency, while Namjoon had to wake up a bit later because his shift as a restaurant manager didn't start until ten in the morning.
He was barely in a clear headspace all day, thoughts and questions running through his head like a computer code without end. He cannot remember the number of times he hovered his finger on the call button of his phone with Seokjin’s name and number pulled-out. The better part of his brain saying that they should talk about this in person always won.
Right now, he doesn’t know where he stand with Seokjin. They had been roommates for more than two years now. Namjoon can say he was pretty courageous when he responded to the advertisement despite the caveat “Any gender is accepted but if you piss me off you’re out”. He miraculously passed Seokjin’s interview, barely remembering his answers to the questions, “When was the last time you got angry and what did you do about it?”, “Did you ever use your alpha status to your advantage?”, “How do you handle conflicts with omegas?”
It was an hour long of grilling him situational questions which was more intense than any job interview he had ever been in, on top of the usual roommate questions like, “Are you okay to not bring anyone home?”, “Since you do not cook, what other household chores are you good at to compensate for it?”, “Are you okay to manually wash the dishes? I don’t have a dishwasher.”
In just an hour he learned a lot about Seokjin and how their lifestyles could fit perfectly well. One thing that really matched them well was they are very both career-oriented people. Both of them don't have time for romance (more like choosing not to make time) and don't even entertain the idea of dating. They avail the services from hotels where they are paired with a professional to take care of them during their ruts and heats. But to their surprise, when they discovered they have the same cycle every quarter, they came to an agreement to just do it together. Apart from being able to cut off from that expense, it's good to have someone they already trust.
No rules were set prior to their arrangement. No talks about “no catching feelings”, “no romance,” “I can fuck whoever I want outside of ruts/heats”. It’s just really for convenience with no hidden, messy rules and feelings.
But now Namjoon is having a baby with Seokjin. Namjoon is going to be a father. Not in his lifetime has it ever crossed his mind. His youthful self just settled on “if it’s gonna happen along the way, then let it be.” All he wanted was to climb the corporate ladder, retire rich, and settle in one of the rest houses by the beach (so he can always be with his crab friends). He cannot wait for the morning to come soon.
Namjoon woke up on a Saturday with the rustling of pans in the kitchen indicating that Seokjin is most likely making breakfast. Seokjin was only able to cook during weekends and when he does, he always cooks for two. Namjoon can’t remember when was the first time he found himself looking forward to this time of the week where he got to share a meal with Seokjin as the elder was always out the apartment before sunrise and always coming home after sundown. Now that Seokjin is pregnant, he wonders what will be different in their routine.
“Hi, hyung,” Namjoon greeted Seokjin in his still bedroom voice, hair unkempt.
Seokjin pretended he heard nothing and just continued to stir the kimchi fried rice in the pan. There was already a banchan set-up in their dining table and plate for two.
Namjoon doesn’t know how to navigate this… this..whatever mood they are in. This is the first time he and Seokjin had tension between them. He was standing awkwardly a few feet away from Seokjin and the dining table, as if preparing himself to run if ever Seokjin exploded.
“Let’s eat first then let’s talk about whatever it is you want to talk about,” Seokjin said as nonchalantly as he could, turning off the fire in the stove top and bringing the kimchi pan in the middle of the dining table.
They ate in silence. Namjoon dared not attempt any small talk for he knew it would only be futile.
Click clank
Seokjin suddenly dropped the bowl and chopsticks he was holding and bolted toward the bathroom, startling Namjoon. Namjoon then heard gagging sounds, and took a while to figure what was happening – Seokjin is suffering from morning sickness.
Namjoon rushed to his hyung in the bathroom whom he found sitting on the cold tile and holding both sides of the toilet bowl, throwing up what little he had eaten from breakfast. Namjoon was making rubbing motions towards Seokjin’s back, doesn’t really know what to say or what else to do, but the alpha in him just propels him to take care of his…well, the carrier of their pup? Not a lover, not a…friend (?)...definitely not mate. (Or not yet?)
Namjoon plopped himself on the floor behind Seokjin, spreading his legs to accommodate the omega until Seokjin was leaning his back in Namjoon’s chest, panting and definitely not liking whatever he was experiencing. Namjoon enveloped his arms in Seokjin’s small waist as Seokjin leaned back his head in his the alpha’s shoulders. They stayed like that for a while, until Namjoon made sure Seokjin didn't feel the need to throw up anymore. He then carried Seokjin in bridal style to his bed.
“I’ll get you some water, hyung,” Namjoon said after he made sure Seokjin settled down and opened the window for fresh air to come in. “Is there anything else you need? Anything I can get you?”
“I want banana milk,” Seokjin said with eyes closed, nursing his head by rubbing both sides of his temple.
“Uhh, okay…” Namjoon knew it was a weird request, but he figured it might be what they call as pregnancy cravings (?) He hurried out and readied himself to run to the nearest convenience store.
Seokjin has resigned to his fate. He knows nothing about being pregnant, and doesn't have any idea how far long he is. But he deduced that he might be a month and a half long since that was the last time he spent his heat with Namjoon. Last month was crazy. He was eating nearly twice as much as usual and felt constantly hungry. But it was only this week that he experienced feeling funny and has been throwing up since three days ago. Namjoon had always used condoms during sex, but he knew that there is still a small percentage where it fails.
He wishes there is a law or even a guidebook (for dummies) that instructs what to do when you find out you’re pregnant with someone who is not your boyfriend, not your mate or husband, but with your roommate who only fucks you during heat. He doesn’t know how to bring it up, maybe thank the universe for having Namjoon find it out by himself. It's not that he intended to keep it hidden, but he just doesn’t know how to broach the subject. It’s not like he can go, “Hey, roommate, I'm pregnant with your baby, what do you want to do?”
Before he can ask Namjoon, he has to figure out by himself his plans for him and the pup. But one thing is clear: Seokjin is keeping the baby. This wasn’t in his plans. He was working on his performance for the next round of his promotion. That’s why this sudden knowledge of him being pregnant leaves him unsure of how it will fit in his future . This pup will emerge from this world no matter what – may the pup either have one parent or two parents. It doesn’t matter. But if Namjoon chooses not to be part of their life, he is free to leave. Then he can convert Namjoon’s room to the pup’s nursery. But what if Namjoon chooses to stay then? That’s the bigger question. Fuck .
Namjoon returned not with just one piece of banana milk but six 6-pack of it. He returns not with one grocery bag, but three. He managed to carry three heavy bags full of healthy items he found in the convenience store and vowed to make the next grocery run as soon as possible. It has been just a little more than twenty-four hours since he had known that Seokjin is carrying their pup and he was already invested in it, in the prospect that he is the other half responsible for such news.
They really need to talk about what to do.
“Here you go, hyung.” Namjoon took the liberty to insert the straw in the banana milk.
“Thank you.” Seokjin accepted, hoping Namjoon could sense the sincerity in his voice. He finished the banana milk in 30 seconds as Namjoon watched him devour it with fondness. “I want more.” Seokjin looked at Namjoon with puppy eyes and a small pout which made Namjoon coo at the omega. Fifteen minutes later, Seokjin finished a total of seven 500mL bottles of banana milk.
“Is banana milk gonna be your breakfast everyday?” Namjoon playfully remarked as he took away all evidence of banana milk to throw it in the trash. Seokjin couldn’t help but think that if Namjoon is the kind of alpha who takes care of his mate like this, it would be much better than going through pregnancy alone. Namjoon had set the standard for alphas after all.
Seokjin woke up feeling so much better. He didn’t even remember falling asleep and was surprised that he fell asleep with the sun at its peak. He glanced at the clock at his bedside table where it says it’s already half-past noon. He heard someone laughing out loud in the living room and panicked a bit because it couldn’t have been Namjoon. The alpha would have already left for work at this time of day.
“Hey, why are you still here?” Seokjin asked as he emerged from his bedroom to the living room. It turns out Namjoon was watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S. (again).
“How are you feeling, hyung?” Namjoon paused the show and an awkward silence permeated the air.
“I’m fine, feeling much better.”
“What do you want for lunch? We can order in.”
“I don’t know. But I can cook, you don’t have to worry about it. Why aren’t you at work?”
“I took an emergency leave.”
“Why?”
“I don’t think I can leave you alone.”
Seokjin doesn’t know what to do with that information. He may have felt his heart skip a bit. “I’m fine. You don’t have to worry about me.”
Namjoon’s inner alpha growled. “But I worry about you.”
“Namjoon, I’m pregnant. Not disabled. It’s not as if you can watch over me for nine months. Well, seven and a half at this point.” Seokjin walked to the kitchen and browsed what they had in the fridge.
“Seokjin, can we talk now?”
Seokjin took a deep breath as he closed the refrigerator door. Better to face this sooner than later. There’s no point in stalling. It’s not as if he can avoid Namjoon, given that they live in the same house.
“Okay, let’s talk.”
They settled themselves in the living room couch. Seokjin brought his knees up to his chest, as if making himself small. Namjoon wanted to cuddle the omega, that instinct to want to protect, but he better behave himself if he wanted this talk to go well.
“What do you want to talk about?” Seokjin asked without looking Namjoon in the eye. He can’t look at him in the eye.
“You’re pregnant.”
“Yes.”
“Are you keeping the pup?”
“Yes.”
“Why did you hide it from me?”
“Are you sure you are the father?”
Namjoon’s jaw dropped. Seokjin finally brought himself to take a glance at the man across him.
“I’m kidding, Joon,” Seokjin let out a small chuckle as he saw the surprised look on his face. “I haven’t been with anyone else, I promise. And I didn’t drink last night. It was wrong for me to stay up late but it was the first day I’ve learned about the pregnancy and I really do not want to think about it yet. I’m not ready.”
“I’m sorry for last night, too. I have no excuse. I was just frustrated. I went home immediately after my shift because I wanted to talk to you about it. But I waited and worried when you haven’t come home yet.”
Home . It doesn’t sound as bad as it seems, Seokjin thought to himself.
“Seokjin, I want to be a present father.”
A present father for the pup but not to me. But Seokjin would take whatever Namjoon could give. He also isn’t against the idea of Namjoon being around. He knows he can be independent, he has lived his whole life alone without his parents, and the non-presence of an alpha in his life won’t really change much of his capability to bear the responsibility alone. But as they say, two is better than one.
“Okay, Namjoon,” was all Seokjin could reply.
“That’s it?”
“Why, what else would there be?”
“I was kind of expecting you would put up a fight.”
Seokjin couldn’t blame Namjoon for thinking that about him. He practically argued with Namjoon over every little thing, though it was more playful banter than real conflict. Namjoon had been patient with that side of his personality. Of course, Namjoon being the wonderful person that he is would tolerate his pettiness. He wonders if Namjoon is only kind towards him or to every other omega as well.
“I guess I haven’t drunk enough banana milk to have the energy to bicker with you,” Seokjin gave him a half smile revealing his bread cheeks.
“Time to eat then,” Namjoon replied with his most sincere smile.
Days passed as they tried to navigate to adapt to their situation. Namjoon wakes up almost at the same time as Seokjin. He continues to comfort the omega by gently rubbing circles on his back even in his half-awake state, offering him comfort as he continues to suffer from morning sickness. The least he can do is to let Seokjin know he is there for him. Banana milk never runs out in their cupboards and they are always stocked with fresh fruits for Seokjin’s nutrition.
Namjoon rides with Seokjin in the subway and walks him until the front of the latter’s office building and takes a ride back just in time for his shift. Seokjin had a car but given the traffic in Seoul and expensive parking fee, he just chose to commute. Namjoon didn’t have to, really (but he will drive Seokjin only if he knows how to). “Just to make sure you’re safe, hyung”, the alpha insisted, but it was also a subtle way of displaying in public that Seokjin has an alpha to take care of him even if he is an unmated omega.
One day, Namjoon came home and found out that Seokjin was with another alpha in their apartment. Apparently, Seokjin wasn’t feeling well and his boss, Hoseok, offered to drive him home. Seokjin invited Hoseok up for some tea, and before they knew it, two hours had slipped by as they chatted on the couch. Hoseok, the gentleman that he is, excused himself when Namjoon arrived.
“If you weren’t feeling well, why didn’t you call me?” Namjoon confronted Seokjin just mere seconds after Hoseok left.
“It’s not as if you can get out of work, Namjoon. Also no offense, it’s not as if you can drive,” Seokjin said as he rolled his eyes.
“He is your boss! Do you usually invite your bosses inside your apartment? He could have just dropped you off! Why did he have to come up?
“I invited him, Namjoon! It’s common courtesy!” Seokjin can’t help raising his voice in irritation.
“What if something bad happened to you while he was here? What kind of alpha is he?”
“Namjoon, Hoseok has been my boss for five years. I’ve known him longer than I have known you. I spent more of my waking hours with him rather than you. Do you think I’m stupid enough to let someone in my home knowing it wouldn’t be safe for me?”
“But you couldn’t have needed him when you have me!”
“Do I? Have you? You’re just the other father of my kid! You’re not my boyfriend, we’re not lovers! You don’t own me!”
“I didn’t say I own you! I’m here trying to say I am here for you!”
“Why!?”
“Because I care about you! That’s what…” Namjoon trailed off.
“What? What 'friends' do?”
“We’re friends but you know we’re more than that Seokjin!”
“I don’t know shit, Namjoon! I don’t know what we are. I don’t know what to call us. We are in this limbo where we don’t know where we stand with each other.”
“I want to try! I want to try, Seokjin, please.”
“Try what???”
“To be more than friends. To be lovers. We may not be there yet, I may not be there yet. But we are getting there, won’t you agree?”
Seokjin doesn’t have anything to retort to that. He couldn't deny that he already developed feelings for Namjoon. Maybe he still hasn’t fully realized it, not that he is in denial but he just doesn’t know how to process it. Namjoon is pretty much in the same state. They were so bad at this romantic shit.
“Namjoon, were you jealous?”
“What? Me?” It’s as if Namjoon also hasn't put a name to his emotion and a light bulb lit in his head as Seokjin pointed it out. “No? I guess? I don’t know?”
“Yes you are! You’re jealous of Hoseok, that's why you’re overreacting!”
“It’s not me! It’s my…inner alpha,” Namjoon cleared his throat, suddenly embarrassed by his behavior. He’s an alpha, he should be strong and not be swayed by feelings. He has to always be logical, thinking clearly for the sake of his pack. Wait, what pack?
Seokjin found it cute. “Okay, let’s try.”
“Try what?”
“To be more than friends…boyfriends…lovers, whatever you call that shit.”
Namjoon feels the blood thrumming in his veins, a mix of nervousness and excitement coursing through him. “Okay.”
“Okay.”
In a span of three months, Seokjin had gained himself a pup, a boyfriend, and now a promotion. He didn’t know what exactly he did in his past life to deserve so many good things in life. He can’t remember the last time he felt this genuinely happy with himself, with life, with the world in general. The life he had been living was pretty much average: study, work, eat, sleep. Average…and boring? It’s not that he was wishing for dramatics, but he was content. The time things took a turn was when he met Kim Namjoon.
As he opened the email congratulating the newly promoted employees, his first instinct was to clutch his stomach, silently communicating with his little bunny “Look bun, your appa made it!” and his second thought was…well…Namjoon.
A round of congratulations were showered amongst them and his other colleagues who passed the promotion, but there is only one person that the congratulations would matter the most. Should he call Namjoon? Has he earned that right yet? Seokjin decided he will surprise Namjoon at his workplace later.
Silver Spoon is the name of the restaurant where Namjoon works. It’s a 3-Michelin-star restaurant specializing in Korean-Italian fusion cuisine. He was working on his daily reports in their small office when Yoongi, his co-manger, knocked on the door. “Namjoon-ah, someone’s looking for you at Table 42,” said Yoongi with a sly smile.
“Who is it?” Namjoon replied with eyebrows furrowed. Nobody had ever looked for him in the restaurant except during family birthday celebrations. “Is there a guest complaint?”
“See for yourself.” With that, Yoongi left him hanging and wonderding.
Seokjin was fidgety. He took a sip of his yuzu tea. As much as wine sounds good, the only apt celebratory drink, he had to settle for his citron tea for now as alcohol and caffeine aren’t advised to take while pregnant. He should have just stayed at home and waited for Namjoon. Why did he have to surprise him? Was it a careless decision? Namjoon makes Seokjin do stuff he wouldn’t usually do by himself, the only alpha who made him want to go out of his comfort zone.
“Hyung! What are you doing here?”
Seokjin was brought out of his reverie by the very voice he had been longing for all day. He also felt a sudden movement in his stomach, for some reason, as if rejoicing with him upon hearing his daddy’s voice. Daddy??? When did Seokjin decide that he will be Appa and Namjoon will be the Dad?
“Are you okay? Is there something wrong?” Namjoon seated himself beside Seokjin on the couch of the semi-private table without hesitation. He immediately placed his hand over Seokjin’s who was touching his stomach. “How’s the pup?”
Seokjin couldn’t help but look at Namjoon with deep fondness. He cannot believe someone like Namjoon would want this…whatever this is…this life, with him. This wonderful, good hearted, and warm goofball. His goofball. “No, nothing’s wrong. I just…”
Namjoon was looking at him with anticipation in his eyes, not knowing if the news Seokjin was about to deliver was good or bad.
“I got promoted at work.” There was a pause for a second or two, Seokjin searching Namjoon’s eyes for some reaction. Instead he felt hands cupping his cheeks and Kim Namjoon gave him a quick kiss.
“Sorry! Am I allowed to do that?”
Instead of answering, Seokjin mimicked Namjoon’s actions – he cupped his cheeks and kissed him back. This time it lasted for more than a second, until Seokjin suddenly pulled out wide-eyed, suddenly remembering he was at Namjoon’s workplace. He took a look around him and thankfully there is a divider for privacy between tables.
“It’s fine, hyung. I’m so happy for you! Your hard work paid off! You’ve been working on it since early this year, no?”
“Yeah…” Seokjin was surprised that Namjoon paid attention.
“So are you here to celebrate or what? Getting me to treat you?”
“I want to celebrate with you, Joon-ah.”
Namjoon grinned so wide that he thought his face was about to fall off. “Let me just wrap up and endorse some stuff Yoongi-hyung. My shift is ending anyway. Give me ten minutes tops.” Namjoon placed one last kiss on Seokjin’s lips and hurriedly went back to finish his duties so he could properly join Seokjin.
Seokjin was still getting used to them kissing outside of their ruts. It happened naturally after that night where they decided to try to become boyfriends. They spent that night sleeping together – just sleeping! and maybe some cuddling – and Namjoon kissed him good night. As if by some magnetic force, he kissed Namjoon goodbye that first morning when Namjoon walked him to work. It’s how boyfriends behave, right?
Namjoon joined Seokjin precisely in eight minutes and had a heavy dinner accompanied by light conversation. Seokjin consumed two entrees – in the defense he was feeding two people right now. Namjoon didn’t mind at all, of course he didn’t. He will do everything for Seokjin (at least he has the employee’s discount). They aren’t as well off or rich rich as chaebol families. Whatever they were earning right now was due to their hard work. As single persons, they are more than capable of providing for themselves, but with a pup on the way, maybe they have to evaluate their financial priorities. But they will figure it out.
Namjoon had been thinking if he had to court Seokjin. It’s not that much practiced in modern society right now where Alphas give Omegas lavish gifts to prove they are capable of raising a family. Namjoon knew he didn’t have to prove himself to Seokjin, but the inner alpha in him would want to make known that Seokjin is not just any omega but as someone special to him, someone important, someone he would want to spend a lifetime with.
“Thank you for today, Joon-ah,” Seokjin blurted out as they entered the foyer of their apartment.
“Congratulations again hyung! I’m so happy for you.” Namjoon then pulled Seokjin for a kiss. It was slow, gentle, and soft. They kissed and kissed and kissed until they had to break for air, and not five seconds later, they were on each other’s once again. Namjoon’s hands found his way on Seokjin’s ass, giving it light squeeze, massaging them a little, reminding himself to not lose control and that Seokjin is delicate right now unlike during heats where the omega enjoys being manhandled.
“Joon-ah…” Seokjin was panting.
“Hyung…can we do this? Is it safe for you?”
“I don’t know, but I'm surely feeling horny right now.” Seokjin buried his face in Namjoon’s neck, feeling embarrassed. “I’m wet.”
“Shit. Do you uh, want me to take care of that? I can uhhh, eat you out? Maybe just no penetration?”
Are they the only logical couple that can still think clearly while in the middle of trying to have their sexy time?
“Maybe just be gentle?”
“Okay.” Namjoon scooped Seokjin up and carried them to Seokjin’s bedroom. Seokjin circled his arms around Namjoon’s neck and continued to pepper the alpha with kisses in his face. Namjoon settled Seokjin down as gently as he could, hovered his hands around Seokjin’s belt while silently asking the omega for permission to unbuckle. Seokjin nodded and Namjoon slowly worked until he managed to get the dress pants off.
The alpha gave Seokjin’s cloth stomach a few kisses while working his way downwards to Seokjin’s still clothed crotch, stimulating Seokjin’s cock as he give open mouthed kisses and feeling the texture of the omega’s boxers getting wetter and wetter by the minute.
“Joonie, please,” Seokjin begged.
“Hyung, you’re so wet.”
“I know! Can you please just…” Seokjin felt relief when Namjoon finally hooked his fingers on the waistband of his boxers and finally freed his hard cock out. He can feel himself dripping with slickness and as he produced more, Namjoon’s tongue was already devouring his hole like his second desert. Seokjin could feel Namjoon holding back as the alpha was always rough on him. This is the first time they will have sex outside their arrangement – which made Seokjin remember Namjoon’s rut is due soon and he is an omega who cannot be at his alpha’s disposal. Does it mean Namjoon would spend his rut with somebody else? The mere thought of it nearly killed Seokjin’s horniness if not only for the very active tongue and mouth that was almost swallowing him whole and the alpha’s big hands working double time on his cock. The alpha delivered and made Seokjin orgasm, his inner omega satiated, but he made a mental note to discuss it with Namjoon in the near future.
Seokjin pulled Namjoon up to kiss him, tasting himself, when he noticed Namjoon’s hard on pressing on Seokjin’s stomach. “Joonie, let me eat you out too.”
“Can I uh…” Namjoon was hesitant but took the courage to finish his sentence. “Can I fuck your thighs instead?”
Seokjin was worried at first of what Namjoon was about to say, but let out a soft giggle at the alpha’s request. Who is Seokjin to deny Namjoon? “Of course, baby. Fuck my thighs like you’re fucking my hole.”
Namjoon wasted no time to undress himself and hoisted Seokjin’s pressed legs on his shoulders and positioned his cock in between. Namjoon could sense that Seokjin was putting in the work of tightening his legs for him, but he knew he had to cum soon so as not to stress the omega so much.
Namjoon was looking at Seokjin directly in the eyes as he thrust and Seokjin was staring back at him with fondness in his eyes. They were usually in haze when they are fucking and this is the first time both of them were on their sane minds. A lot of first times.
Namjoon came shooting his load on Seokjin’s office dress shirt. Seokjin pulled him once again for a kiss. “Shower?”
“Together?”
Seokjin nodded and Namjoon carried him once again. He could get used to this.
“Jinnie, save me!” Namjoon was lying on his stomach on their living room couch, holding his phone out to Seokjin, who is currently cross legged across the coffee table, and showing him a charmander baby onesie. “It’s so cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute Jinnie, it’s so fluffy I think I’m gonna die!”
If it was another day, a different day, Seokjin would have found Namjoon adorable and endearing as he always does. But today, he found Namjoon annoying. It’s either the pregnancy is messing up with his hormones or it has something to do with the fact that Namjoon’s rut is in two days. He found the alpha annoying because how can be so chill, browsing for baby clothes that won’t fit until the pup is one year old, not realizing the fact that he has to go away for a week? Namjoon will be spending a week with a stranger while his pregnant boyfriend will be left alone. When did Seokjin rely on Namjoon so much?
“Cute.” Seokjin pretended went back to his laptop, not sparing Namjoon another second.
Of course Namjoon noticed the indifference in Seokjin’s tone. “Hey, what’s wrong? Are you not feeling well? Are you hungry? We can order in.”
It was a Sunday night where Namjoon just got back from his shift and got the Monday off, while Seokjin is preparing materials for work the upcoming week ahead.
“I’m fine.”
“How about some banana milk? Or mint chocolate ice cream?” Namjoon offered. “Can you believe our pup wanted mincho???”
If it was a text, Seokjin had left Namjoon on read. He continued to ignore the younger and continued to focus on the screen in front of him.
Namjoon put his phone down. He moved towards where Seokjin is seated, placed his chin on his shoulders trying to appeal affection to the omega. Seokjin quickly shrugged him off followed by a sharp tsk . Namjoon was taken aback. “Why is my omega cranky today? Is our pup moody as well?” Namjoon attempted to place his hands on Seokjin’s stomach but was quickly swatted away.
“Go back to your online shopping, Namjoon.”
Namjoon being called Namjoon and not Joonie or Joon-ah is a serious matter. This is another circumstance where he does not know whether Seokjin would really want to be alone or it's just his emotions overpowering him. He knew he had to stay quiet in order not to experience Seokjin’s wrath.
Seokjin slammed the cover of the laptop and buried his face in his hands, clearly showing frustration. “Have you booked the hotel services for next week?”
“What hotel services?” Namjoon asked, genuinely confused.
“The rut hotel services? You are going into a rut next week, Joon-ah.”
Namjoon clearly forgot all about it. It was Seokjin who arranged everything for them during those times, all he had to do was to show up. But what perplexed him most is that he knew he won’t be going into rut in the same duration that Seokjin is pregnant. It was a knowledge ingrained to him since he knew that Yoongi also disrupted his rut cycle when his mate Jimin got pregnant with their son, Taehyung. That’s why it never concerned him. “What do you mean going into a rut?”
Seokjin can’t believe Namjoon is feigning ignorance about this. “Hello? Where have you been? It’s what has always been on schedule??? You’ve always relied on me with regards to these things, what would you even do without me?”
“But you’re pregnant, Seokjin.” When Seokjin is called Seokjin and not Jinnie or hyung, it is a serious matter.
“Yes, I am aware. I am pregnant and you’re not.”
“But I shouldn’t be going into a rut if you are pregnant.”
“Why? How do you know that?”
“Yoongi’s cycle stopped when Jimin was pregnant.”
“But they are mates,” Seokjin said as factual as he could.
Namjoon's mouth hung agape as the realization hit him. “But is it not applicable to us? I mean, we’re boyfriends afterall. I feel like we have imprinted one another in some way. Besides, I don't feel like going into a rut. I usually feel territorial, not wanting you to even leave the house, remember? I don’t even want to see you communicating with anybody else even if it's about work. Right now, I just feel protective all the time.”
“But you’re not sure. Better late than never.”
“Why would you assume that I would want to go to a hotel? Can’t I spend it here alone?”
It doesn’t make sense to Seokjin. Why would Namjoon want to suffer when there is available help? Seokjin doesn’t know what to reply and just continues to stare at Namjoon, unsure how to go from here.
“But I really don’t think I’m going into rut, hyung.” Namjoon continued, saving them from their misery.
“I’m going to bed.” Seokjin sighed and stood up, leaving Namjoon completely bewildered by the entire conversation.
Namjoon doesn’t go into rut. Seokjin doesn’t know what to do with this information. They are not mates so why would he be affected by this? Namjoon on the other hand, doesn’t see how big a deal it is. Isn’t it only the natural way of things that’s why it’s happening?
Seokjin is standing on their kitchen counter, peeling peaches for breakfast, while Namjoon is seated on a chair by the kitchen island ogling watching Seokjin.
“You’re staring, Joon-ah,” Seokjin remarked without looking up, hands busy with fruits.
“You’re so hot, hyung,” Namjoon said without hesitation. That made Seokjin look at Namjoon whose eyes are fixated on his ass, drooling.
“What, your brain has gone into rut but your body did not?” Seokjin said with a smirk.
“I’m just stating facts, hyung. And your baby bump is showing!”
“Wait until I'm 9 months in and i'm practically a whale.”
"Hyung, did you know there's a 52-hertz whale, and it's the world's loneliest whale because its calls are at a much higher frequency than other whales, so no other whales can hear or respond to it?"
“It’s too early for a philosophical session, Joon-ah.”
“Sorry.”
Seokjin shoved a sliced peach in Namjoon’s mouth and gave him a peck on the lips. “Don’t be. You know I love your ramblings. It’s sexy.”
Namjoon cannot retort with him munching.
“By the way, do you still have Monday as your day off? I’m thinking of scheduling an ultrasound appointment with the doctor. Do you want to come?” They’re really doing this together, aren’t they? All the couple-y stuff.
“Of course, hyung! I would love to see baby Joonie!”
“It’s definitely a mini me! Worldwide handsome shoulders junior.”
“But my dimples!”
“Of course it will have your dimples, Joon-ah! It’s what made me fall for you in the first place.”
And there was…silence. Awkward. Charged. Tensed.
Namjoon watched Seokjin completely turn red, not only his ears, but his entire face and neck.
“I’m gonna go shower.” Seokjin escaped the room, not wanting to spill more of his feelings further.
If this was a fanfic, they’re sure gonna be tagged as “they are bad with feelings”.
Seokjin was struggling to get out of bed. Years of always waking up at five in the morning had made him a morning person, that even his body clock on weekends gets him up at the same time. It’s already seven in the morning and he doesn’t have the willpower to get up.
Maybe, just maybe, that there is something to do that today is the scheduled day for them to go to the doctor to get that first ultrasound but Namjoon won’t be able to go with him. There was an emergency at the restaurant where Namjoon got the call at four in the morning by the building officials that their alarm went off due to suspected theft and he had to go and attend to the situation.
Seokjin is worried about Namjoon going to the scene and of course he is worried about the restaurant, but he can’t help but be disappointed that Namjoon won’t be able to go with him to the check-up today. Should he just reschedule it?
But he already filed a leave for it and his mind is already in vacation mode, it would be a hassle to retract. He just has to suck it up and get a grip. As if on cue, he felt a movement on his stomach, which seems to be encouraging him to get up. Seokjin immediately rubbed his stomach in circles as if to console the other being and chuckled, “Okay, bun, let’s go and see you today.”
Seokjin was seated in the hospital hallway where other pregnant omegas and their mates were waiting for their turn to be checked up by the doctor. A mix of both male couples and some hetero ones, but it is worth noting that he is the only one without a partner. Even though society no longer frowns upon unmated pregnant omegas as harshly as it did a century ago—when pregnancies out of wedlock would lead to being cast out from the pack—he can’t help but feel sorry for himself.
“Hello!” A man with a boxy smile had greeted him. He is with his presumed partner, seated on Seokjin’s left. “Are you here for a checkup with Dr. Yang?”
“Yeah, I am,” Seokjin replied, grateful to have someone to talk to to ease his nerves.
“I’m Taehyung, by the way. And this is my future mate, Wooshik.” Taehyung’s arm is wrapped around Wooshik who gave Seokjin a small wave. “How far along are you?”
“I’m Seokjin. Three months, give or take. This is my first time here, actually.”
“Ohh, Dr. Yang is great. He has been our doctor ever since the start of Wooshik’s pregnancy. You’re in good hands.”
“Thank you. What has been the most challenging so far? I’m gonna die of morning sickness. I hope it stops already.”
“I don’t have any appetite,” Wooshik answered. “Taehyung would fight tooth and nail for me just to get me to eat. Everything just smells and tastes awful for me. We settled on having vitamin IV drips just to get me the nutrition I need. I just throw up any solid food.”
“Sorry to hear that. When are you due?”
“In a month! I’m so excited to meet our pup.”
A nurse peeked from the doctor’s office and called the next patient. “Choi Wooshik?”
“That’s us,” Taehyung said. “Nice to meet you, Seokjin-ssi! I hope everything goes well for you and your pup.”
“Thank you. You, too!” Seokjin smiled at the couple. He can’t help but to wish the same for himself, to have someone hold your hand in one of the milestones in your life.
Thud thud thud thud. “Jinnie!”
Seokjin hadn’t gone far after emerging from Dr. Yang’s clinic when he heard his name being called, the voice drawing closer with each step. He turned around to see Namjoon running towards him. He was taken aback when Namjoon suddenly hugged him – in public! – so tight he felt he cannot breathe.
“Baby, I’m so, so, so sorry!” Baby!???
Seokjin could feel Namjoon’s fast heartbeat against his chest, hot breath against his neck. “Hey, you’re here! What happened?” He was trying to soothe Namjoon’s labored breathing by rubbing circles in his back.
Namjoon was still holding on tight to him, both hands wrapped around his waist. “It was a fucking false alarm! We had to wait for the police to investigate and make a report, but there was no intruder whatsoever. Of all the days, why did this have to happen today?”
“Don’t beat yourself up. It’s okay. It was no one’s fault. It was an emergency.”
“It’s not okay. I’m not here with you.”
“You can make it up on the next appointment, okay?”
Namjoon finally released Seokjin and looked at him. “You know…no offense, Jinnie. But you’re kinder now that you’re pregnant.”
“Yah!” Seokjin swatted Namjoon’s arms. “Are you saying I’m not kind???”
“No, it’s just that, you’re more cranky on usual days? You usually have something to retort back and not accept the situation as it is.”
“I feel like the pup inherited it from you and is growing on me.”
“See! It’s a little minnie me! Joonie junior!”
With that said, Seokjin took out from his green LV bag the piece of photo from the ultrasound. “Fine. Here’s your Joonie junior.”
Namjoon took the photo from Seokjin. He stared at it…and stared…and stared some more until tears were running down his cheeks. “Jinnie, they’re so beautiful!”
“Kim Namjoon you cry baby!!!” Seokjin wiped Namjoon’s tears away.
“I’m not!” Namjoon tried to deflect. “Do we know the gender yet?”
“Not yet. In two months, we’ll know.”
“Our pup’s name should start with letter J, no? Stands for Joon and Jin.”
“Fine, whatever you say. I’m the Appa, by the way.
“How about me? I’m Appa, too!”
“Abeonim? Abeoji?”
“Yah! That’s so old school.”
“Of course you’ll be the Dad.”
“Oh okay, I like that.
“Joonie, i’m thinking…how about we go look at the cribs and some baby stuff today? We still haven’t decided where we will put the nursery.”
Namjoon finally looked away from the picture and shifted his attention to Seokjin. “Oh no, you’re right! Should we look for a bigger space?”
Seokjin tucked away the baby photo back in his bag and Namjoon unconsciously intertwined his fingers with Seokjin as they walked towards the hospital exit. “We don’t have to, yet. We just need to get rid of the bed in your room, we can post and sell it online.”
“Why my bed???”
“My room’s bigger! And there’s no way you’re taking my nest away from me!”
“Ahh that makes sense.”
“So…IKEA?”
“IKEA it is. Meatballs?”
“Definitely.”
Seokjin was so thankful Namjoon chose to stay with him. Them. It’s always nice to have someone to share your happiness with.
Seokjin is overthinking things. He was already in his 8th month, feeling so big and ugly. He cannot see his toes for fuck’s sake! And it doesn’t help that whenever he speaks with Namjoon, Namjoon is fidgety. Is Namjoon already regretting his decision? Is he about to leave? Leave me? Leave us? Our pup? Fine! He can leave whenever! I don’t care, I can do this on my own.
“Hey, Seokjin, can we talk?”
Fuck.
Namjoon just entered their bedroom™ after coming out from a long shower (Seokjin had noted it was extra long today by 20 minutes). Seokjin was already tucked on his side of the bed, but he didn't feel that sleep would take over him soon, thanks to his noisy thoughts.
“Uhh sure. What about?” Is this the part where Namjoon will tell him he is already tired of all of this and go pack his bags and leave?
Seokjin straightened his back on the headboard and faced Namjoon who was sitting across from him. Namjoon took his hand, lovingly at that, and Seokjin felt like bursting into tears. Fucking hormones.
“I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. And I want to say this early on, when it’s not in the heat of the moment where we are both full of emotions…”
At this point, Seokjin is convinced he’s gonna be a single parent.
“I think I love you. No, I know I love you. I’m in love with you. Not just because you’re the other father of my pup, but because you’re you. You’re wonderful, Seokjin. I can’t believe I get to be so lucky to have met you. I’m glad that I found your listing for a roommate, or else we wouldn’t be here today. Thank you for putting up with me, all my clumsiness…sorry I can’t cook, but I promise to change the diapers of our pup each and every time I can and that I’ll still drop you off and pick you up from work. I think I'll re-enroll in my driving lessons just for you. I’ll do anything for you, Jinnie. If you’ll have me…”
What????? Seokjin never saw this coming. Tears were running down his face non-stop and his heart is threatening to burst from the different emotions he was feeling: surprised,
Namjoon took something out from his bedside table. He opened a little box and revealed a silver ring…an engagement ring?
“Kim Seokjin. Will you be my mate?”
Seokjin cannot utter any words, tears just continue to stream down his face until Namjoon cupped his cheek and wiped it away. Namjoon was crying, too.
“Fuck you, Kim Namjoon! I thought you were trying to get out of this!”
“What!?”
“You’ve been so restless and uneasy around me these past few days! And you’ve been taking longer showers! Don’t tell me I didn’t notice!”
“Because I kept running scenarios in my head trying to come up with the right time to propose to you! How could you think I am trying to find my way out of this?”
“I’m sorry…it’s just…you know, hormones.”
“I’m sorry I made you think that way.”
“No, don’t be…it’s just me…”
“So?”
“I don’t know, I’ll think about it…”
Namjoon looked down, dejected, but Seokjin just chuckled.
“How could it be that my mate’s so gullible!?
“What???”
“I’m kidding! Of course it’s a yes!!!”
“Ohhh…”
“Come here you idiot!” Seokjin pulled him in for a kiss.
Namjoon wasted no time and crashed their lips, tasting the salty tears they both shed.
Seokjin felt their pup kicking on his stomach as if he (yes, it's a he!) as if it’s also giggling and kicking his feet in the air. He rubbed his stomach. “You hear that, bun? You’re daddy said he’s in love with me.” He then looked at Namjoon who was looking at him with puppy eyes, hopeful. “And of course I'm in love with him, too.”
That broke Namjoon’s face into a wide grin, as wide as Seokjin’s shoulders, and kissed him more.
“Joon-ah. Mark me. Make me yours.”
5 years later…
“Kim Jeongguk! What did I say about drinking banana milk?” Seokjin stood with his hands on his hips, his voice stern as he reprimanded his son, who looked guilty but still flashed those cute doe eyes that could melt anyone's anger.
“No drinking in between meals. Sorry Appa!,” the child diligently replied. “But daddy gave it to me! He’s drinking, too!” Jeongguk ratted him out and pointed to his daddy who was hiding behind the kitchen door, hiding from the wrath of his mate.
Namjoon slowly emerged from hiding, exhibiting the same pleading look as his son. “Sorry babe, I forgot.”
Seokjin closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “Time for a bath now, Jeongguk-ah.”
“Okay, Appa!” Jeongguk didn’t spare any second and ran to the bathroom immediately. As much as Jeongguk hates bath time, he will do anything to escape his Appa right now.
Namjoon and Seokjin were left in the kitchen. The alpha slowly approached his mate, as if he were a ticking bomb that needed defusing before it could explode. He slowly put his arms around Seokjin’s waist, gave him a light kiss on the cheek, slowly moving to his earlobe, brushing against his neck, until Namjoon reached the already healed mark just right below the curve of his neck. Soon enough the omega melted in his arms, wrapping his hands around the Alpha’s neck. Mission success.
“Want to take a bath together after Jeongguk, baby?” Namjoon said it in his most seductive tone.
“What do I do with you Kim Namjoon?”
“I love you. Don’t be angry. I won’t forget next time.”
“I forgive you. I love you, too. Fuck me in the shower?”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
