The Right Kind Of Crazy

Summary:

Just a little prompt that popped into my head after reading Nothin' Like You by Emmiliosis

Work Text:

Jethro and the other lifeguards had been the only constant in the past few years for her. It was difficult when she had taken Jeth to go see her mother, but he understood her and her past more than anyone before.

It was why after so long, that when he proposed, she had said yes. He had been there through some ridiculously difficult times with her. Work, personal, her autism causing minor breakdowns in public. He was her man. There was nothing that he wouldn’t do for her and although it took her a few years to understand how far he was going to go for her, she loved him for it.

Every day of her life before she came to Australia was a struggle, her just surviving. Both Jethro and Joel had helped her find who she was without the intense difficulties of her family surrounding her.

When he had proposed it was on the beach, surrounded by rose petals that the guys had obviously found for him. He had dragged her out there to watch the sunset, and whilst she was focusing on that, he had guided her down a path of petals into the middle of a heart.

“Ashton, you have been the best thing that has happened in my life, you know that?”

“Mhmm.” She dragged herself out of the trance that sunsets seem to have on her.

When she looked at him, he had the most honest expression on his face.

“Despite all that we’ve been through, all that we’ve experienced together. I would do it all again a hundred times to make sure that I have that time. You are the most extraordinary girl that I’ve ever met and I would do anything so that all versions of me across the multiverse would get to see you in that coffee shop three years ago.” He took a breath, “With all of that said-”

He dropped to one knee which she definitely hadn’t expected, “Ashton, will you marry the lifeguard who waved at you that day?”

Now it was the actual day of their wedding, it was happening just off of the beach near the pavilion in the late afternoon. The ceremony was stunning, with Otto in his best man position (obviously), wearing a collar with a tie clipped to it. There was no dry eye as Mr and Mrs James walked down the aisle to the confetti being thrown at them. Both had massive grins on their faces the entire way.

It was later into the evening as their wedding reception kicked off and the first dance was about to begin. Both of them were on the dance floor when suddenly Jethro signaled to the band playing and a different song started up.

Nothin’ Like You by Dan Shay started and Ash couldn’t help but well up with tears. The fact that Jethro had never forgotten the first moment that they met was special to her. To the both of them.

All the guys had tears in their eyes, no matter how much they tried to hide them and Jules was grinning with a single tear, she remembered the first time the young lifeguard had seen the beauty in front of her and she had never been so happy to see a love like theirs play out.
