Truce

Summary:

Based on S17 Spirits in the Night. After arresting Mr. Grundy, William heads home to talk to Julia.

Work Text:

William reached home and saw the light was still on in him and Julia’s bedroom. “She’s still awake? I hope she will let me sleep in the bed tonight.”

He entered into the house, and saw the light reflection from Julia’s light turn off, and sees no blanket or pillow on the hideaway couch, “ok good, she wants to talk,” and takes off his jacket and hat, and places both on the coat hook. He turns off all the living room lights and heads down the hallway.
He firsts checks on Susannah, who was sleeping like an angel and gave her a kiss on her cheek, “goodnight, sweetheart.”

He walks out of the nursery and heads into the bedroom, and sees Julia’s back to him and sits beside her, “Julia, I know you’re awake. I saw the light on when I came home.”

She turns and looks at him, “you couldn’t let the case go, eh?”

“The letter and Mrs. Grundy being at the right moment of Orville Sproul’s death bothered me.”

“George called and told me you arrested Mr. Grundy?”

He nodded, “we were both sort of right. Yes, Mrs. Grundy has that sleep walking condition”

“Somnambulism”

“Right, that. Mr. Grundy, took advantage of her condition.”

Julia sat up, as she turned on the light, “what did he do?”

“He killed her cat, because he was jealous, she loved him more than him.”

Julia gasped, “how awful.”

William nodded, “he also admitted, he killed Orville Sproul, because he believed they were having an affair”

Julia shook her head, “that son of a bitch!”

William gasped and laughed

“I’m sorry” but began laughing

William shook his head, as he leaned in closer to her, “no, I agree. I was going to let Mrs. Grundy kill him. He absolutely deserved it.”

She nodded and placed a hand on his cheek, as he leaned in and gave her a kiss, “call it truce?”

“Mmm, let me think” and gave him another kiss, “truce.”

He chuckled again, said, “so, am I allowed in the bed, tonight?”

She wrapped her arms around his neck, and pressed her forehead to his, “yes, you’re more than welcome back. The sheets have been too cold without you. How do we solve that?”

“I have a few ideas” he said against her lips.
