Chapter Text
Now, as if Jake wasn't on the verge of dying, he just had to be in Heeseung's car. Alone with him. It was awkward at first, the two of them being pretty quiet, so Heeseung just played some music in the background, which left Jake smiling. As per usual though. Anything Heeseung did made Jake smile. It could be the most unappealing expression on Heeseung’s face, which Jake doubts Heeseung could even make any expression unappealing since he was so good looking, and Jake would still find it endearing.
The music Heeseung played was very chill. The perfect music to listen to on a cloudy day, and it had gotten pretty cloudy, so it had seemed perfect for right now.
So he likes chill music?
Suddenly, this made Jake want to know more about Heeseung. Part of him wanted to know Heeseung so well that he could read him by the back of his hand. After all, they had done a lot of flirting, but not much talking. Jake sure as hell wanted to get to the romantic stage with Heeseung, but he knew damn well he wanted to get to know him as a person as well. Heeseung wasn’t just a prize to win. He was a person, and Jake honestly just wanted to be there for him. As a friend first.
"So, do you just listen to chill music and R&B? What else do you like?" he asked, choosing his words carefully. This was gonna be a long drive with Heeseung, and he wanted to use this time to show Heeseung how much he truly is interested in him. He's a whole person, after all, surely he will have hobbies and interests.
"Hmm, I like a lot of genres of music actually. I do like a bit of rap, and I love alternative music too. I guess I just love music. I've always wanted to create my own too. I do have some songs I've written in my drafts. Maybe I'll show them to you later, when we're at my house." Heeseung shifts a little in his seat, gulping as he keeps his eyes on the road and Jake watches him. Jake couldn’t help but release the smile that was creeping on his face.
"Wow. Didn't know you were such a nerd," he jokingly teases, and Heeseung laughs.
"Of course I am. I like Star Wars and Harry Potter and shit."
"Ah, for real? Me too! Which characters are your favorite? I love Han Solo and Snape."
"From Star Wars, I love Obi Wan and for Harry Potter, I've always just liked Harry a lot. I guess he kinda reminds me of myself."
"Really? How so?"
Heeseung paused for a moment, but Jake let him think. It seemed like he had to choose his words carefully, so he didn’t want to rush him. He wanted to let him explain himself how he wanted to.
"I don't know, maybe because he got misunderstood a lot? And a lot of people threw things in his face that he didn't do and...oh, maybe I'm kinda over-rambling, sorry." He whispered the last part, and it melted Jake's heart. He looked so sad. It honestly just made Jake feel bad, he didn't mean to make the mood depressing or anything.
"N-no, you're good..." Jake places his hand on Heeseung's own hand that was placed on his thigh. "I want you to be able to share that stuff with me."
Heeseung quickly looks down at their hands for a moment and gulps as he quickly looks back up. Jake notices this, and keeps his eyes on him, looking over each and every move he makes.
"R-really?"
"Yeah..."
He knew why Heeseung was hesitating. Jake felt horrible. Did Heeseung just not have any friends that let him express himself? That let him talk about what he likes or dislikes, that let him just be...him? Did he have any real friends at all?
“Hey…You know I’m your friend right? As much as I want to be playful, funny, and flirty with you, I’ll still be here at the end of the day. Talk to me,” he says softly, careful to not startle Heeseung.
Heeseung bites his lip out of fear of letting his tears out. He didn’t want Jake to see him like this. If anything, he wanted Jake to see his confident side, even if Jake said he could be vulnerable with him. Heeseung just didn’t like feeling small.
“Thank you, Jake…I really appreciate it,” he mumbles, a little softer than he had meant for his words to come out. He hated how shaky his own voice was at this moment, but when Jake intertwined their hands together, holding his hand even more harder, he knew he wasn’t being judged at all. Heeseung smiled. “Jake…I like you. A lot.”
Jake’s eyes widened and felt his face get a lot warmer than it should be, especially since it was colder outside. He turned his head to look out the window.
“I like you more,” Jake replies, gulping. He couldn’t see Heeseung’s expression, but he hoped that Heeseung didn’t think he was cringy or anything for saying he liked him “more.”
Jeez. He just couldn’t help but to smile at Heeseung and his antics. He was just so adorable. Everything about him made Jake’s heart beat ridiculously fast. And holding Heeseung’s hands throughout the whole entire car ride made him want to melt into liquid. He wanted to hold onto Heeseung’s warm, soft but slightly calloused hands forever if he could. If Heeseung would allow that.
The rest of the car ride was pretty much silent, with Jake asking a couple more questions every couple of minutes or so. He had felt like they made great progress by the time they had arrived.
“We’re hereee! Are you excited?” Heeseung exclaimed. Jake couldn’t help but let out a laugh.
“You’re so silly. But yes, of course I’m excited, why wouldn’t I be? I’m with you, after all,” Jake said in a low voice that had given shivers down Heeseung’s spine. He froze when Jake took his eyes in with his own, staring at Heeseung as if he was the only person in the world. Heeseung licked his lips, and he suddenly really badly wanted to eat Jake’s juicy, beautiful, thick lips right now.
“Don’t say things that will make me want to…kiss you,” Heeseung whispers, but Jake heard it all. Without realizing, Jake moves in closer and closer, closing the space that was left between them.
“Then kiss me. What’s stopping you?” Jake's half-lidded eyes flick down to Heeseung’s lips for a minute, then back to his eyes, and oh boy, Heeseung didn’t think he could handle this anymore. If his face wasn’t as red as a tomato right now, his name wasn’t Lee Heeseung.
“Jake…I-” Heeseung and Jake flinched at the sudden honking that was heard behind them. They both immediately moved away from each other as Heeseung started driving again. They had gotten so distracted by each other that they both had forgotten he didn’t even park yet. Heeseung cleared his throat, hands gripping the steering wheel like it was going to run away from him. Even Jake noticed how white Heeseung’s knuckles had gotten. To say it had now turned awkward was an understatement.
After Heeseung parked, they finally went on with their journey to watch the movie.
