Chapter 3: So, this is what having a soulmate is like.

Summary:

But here he stood in a room with a soulmate that had turned invisible as he himself is flickering between grey and dark pink. If he were more honest with himself, he had no idea what to do. He never had any expectations about his soulmate and he's not disappointed that it was Miles.

Notes:

I hope that you enjoy this chapter. I had a lot of fun writing this Fic. I'm thinking of expanding it, but I'm also really proud of myself for just posting this fic in general. Hopefully I will write and post more fics in the future.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Hobie brown knew one thing in the Moment that he saw Mile's wings for the first time, Miles was His soulmate. He might have had his Moments of wondering who his soulmate could be, who hasn't. Especially with wings like his. Unlike everything else about him (appearance wise of course), his wings were consistent. No matter what his wings stayed the same. They were black with red and brown at the end of each feather, they also were incredibly fluffy. (Gwen and Pav had once mentioned that his wings smelt like a thunderstorm while crashing at his place. To this day he has not the slightest clue what they were talking about.) He had always found it weird that Miles was the of the few spider people who never showed their wings.

He knew of course that some universes didn't have that system of soul mark, hell he had met a version of himself once who didn't have wings or a soul mark in general. But he's been to Mile's universe, he knows that Wings are a thing there. At first, he just assumed that Miles just didn't have a Soulmate, then he decided that it wasn't his business to know. If Miles didn't want him or anyone else knowing what his wings looked like or if he even had any, it was no skin of his back. So, Hobie let it go and never mentioned it.

He had come over to Mile's universe to Hangout. Miles hadn't shown up anytime that they had hung out as a group or really been active in the group chat in the last few weeks. Pav and Gwen had been just as worried as he was, but they themselves were busy with their own stuff. Hobie wasn't totally busy, and he wanted to check up on someone that he loved.

But here he stood in a room with a soulmate that had turned invisible as he himself is flickering between grey and dark pink. If he were more honest with himself, he had no idea what to do. He never had any expectations about his soulmate and he's not disappointed that it was Miles. He kinda had a small crush on him over the years, but he really never expected that crush to go anywhere. Miles had made it clear that he was in no place to be in a relationship when he and Gwendy became friends again. He could respect that. He has respected that. They could talk about whether or not this changes anything about his relationship later, now he had a soulmate to coax out of hiding.

"Now, now Peter Pan, it's alright. you don't have to hide from me." He speaks soft and gently. The flickering has stopped and now he's just a light pink. "It's alright love, I can even turn around so that you can hide your wings again if you'd like?" As he's about to turn around mile's voice stops him. "No, it's fine. It's not like I was going to be able to hide them forever." And Hobie's heart might have broken then and there. Miles had sounded so scared and lifeless. When Miles turn visible again, he looked like a nervous wreck. Hobie step closer, a light smile on his face and his arms out open. An invitation that Miles hungrily took.

Hugging Miles was an experience that would never get old. He hugged that the world only consisted of him and the person that he was hugging. It was both bone crushing and gentle. It was all the warmth in the world wrapped in a single moment. Hugging Miles with his wings out was even better. Hobie wasn't even sure if Miles was aware of the fact that his wings had wrapped around them. Or that he was crying into Hobie's vest, but Hobie just bought him closer wrapping his own wings around them. He felt at home. They could talk later, right now they could just stay like this for a little while longer.

Notes:

Side note: Did you know that the thing that causes the rain to have its smell is called Petrichor and geosmin. But Petrichor is really only produced when the ground is very warm and dry, so places like London would really only get to smell it rarely. Unlike places like some places in the United States or Mumbi.
