Shutterbugs

Summary:

Lynn, founder, photographer and editor of the school’s magazine, is looking for new members for the team.

Notes:

NIJIN1 reporting! Some issues and things here and there led me to not being able to use my hands for a while, hence I went MIA for so long.

Unfortunately, the drafts I had saved were all deleted from the archives and I had no backup of those, so for that I’m sorry. I’ll rewrite those stories once I fully recover and you’ll be able to enjoy my posts once again.

I’m happy with this story because I’m loving Sullin and Shion’s characters a lot and it’s their first appearance in one of my stories

Much love <3

Chapter Text

The crisp autumn air sent a shiver down Lynn's spine as she clutched her camera bag tighter. Today was the first game of the season for Northview High's soccer team, and for Lynn, it was like a personal opening ceremony. She wasn't there to cheer, though the enthusiastic roars from the bleachers seemed to pull at her. No, Lynn was there to capture it all – the fans' excited faces, the players' determined strides, and especially the electrifying energy of the cheerleaders.

A familiar voice, laced with mock enthusiasm, cut through the cheers. "Go Wildcats!" Hayeon declared, waving a hand in the air.

Shion, ever the pragmatist, rolled his eyes. "Hayeon, for the hundredth time, we're the Eagles, not the Wildcats. Wildcats are from that High School Musical you're obsessed with."

Hayeon pouted playfully. "But Shion, I was born to be a cheerleader, to sing with Troy Bolton under the New Year night lights. YYou don't get it! It's not my fault the universe decided to put me here instead, now I'm stuck here watching Lynn take pictures of ugly men chasing a ball."

Sullin nudged Hayeon with a smile. "Come on, we all know Lynn isn't here for the soccer."

They'd been down this road countless times before, yet they were always there. Lynn couldn't help but appreciate their unwavering support, even if they didn't quite understand the spark that ignited within her every time she raised her camera.

"It's not about the soccer," Lynn admitted, a soft smile playing on her lips as she adjusted her camera settings. "It's about capturing a moment, a feeling. The way the light hits the field, the pure joy on a player's face after scoring a goal, the raw energy of the crowd – it all comes together to tell a story."

Her gaze swept across the field, taking in the vibrant green expanse, the anticipation etched on the players' faces, and the contagious enthusiasm of the cheerleaders stretching on the sidelines. Today's story was just beginning, and Lynn, with her camera as her paintbrush, was ready to capture it all on frame.

Hayeon waved her hand dismissively. "Whatever," she said. "At least the blue and gold make us look good."

Lynn chuckled. School spirit might not have been her motivation, but she couldn't deny the captivating energy it brought to her photos. "Exactly! Sports might not be my thing, but there's always something enjoyable in this..." She contemplated for a moment before continuing, "Look at the passion, the raw emotion – it all translates beautifully on camera."

She look through the pictures that same camera had captured in previous events. Faces painted with the school colors, passionate screams frozen forever in frames, it was all worth it.

A spark ignited in her eyes. "This year, I'd love to turn these photos into an official project, maybe a zine or even a photo book capturing the best moments of the year."

Sullin's response was more subdued. "That's a cool idea, Lynn," she said, a hint of uncertainty in her voice. "But um-"

Lynn pressed the shutter button just as a cheerleader executed a perfect mid-air pirouette. A triumphant smile spread across her face as she reviewed the shot. "I know someday I'll find someone who gets it," she murmured, her gaze lingering on the photo.

Shion, leaning in to get a closer look, surprised her. "Wow, Lynn, that shot is amazing! You really captured the movement."

Hayeon, ever focused on aesthetics, chimed in, "And can we talk about how gorgeous she is?"

Lynn couldn't help but agree. In that moment, the photo wasn't just about capturing school spirit or a cheerleader's form. It was a testament to the beauty and grace that existed within the ordinary, a fleeting moment transformed into a timeless image through the lens of her camera. The click of the shutter wasn't just a recorded sound; it was the spark of her passion, her talent coming alive.

"I don't think I've seen her before," Lynn murmured, still gazing at the picture.

"That's Kim Nakyoung," Sullin chimed in, recognition dawning on her face. "The senior cheerleading captain. Of course, she's gorgeous." She shot Hayeon a playful nudge. "Surprised you didn't know, Miss School Gossip."

Hayeon scoffed playfully. "Hey, even the queen of intel has her blind spots! Besides," she continued, batting her eyelashes dramatically, "a face and a reputation like Nakyoung's are hard to miss. Maybe she was just hiding from me and my striking personality all this time."

Shion snorted. "Yeah, right. Maybe Nakyoung just knew better than to get tangled with your flirting ways, Hayeon."

Hayeon threw a playful punch at Shion's arm. "Oh hush you, Shion. Maybe it was fate, keeping us apart until now. Destiny's calling, I can feel it."

Sullin rolled her eyes. "If you're planning to shoot your shot, Hayeon, get in line. Pretty sure half the school has a crush on Kim Nakyoung."

Lynn, who had been listening intently but silently, allowed a small smile to play on her lips. Her gaze remained fixed on Nakyoung, now warming up with the rest of the cheerleaders. The playful banter between her friends faded into the background as Lynn became laser-focused. Nakyoung's every move – the way she interacted with her teammates, the confident glint in her eyes, the effortless grace in her movements – was a potential frame waiting to be captured. This wasn't just about school spirit anymore. This was about capturing the essence of a captivating person, and Lynn, camera poised and heart pounding with anticipation, was determined to do just that.

"So like, here's the big idea." Lynn began explaining as she laid her pictures and prints in Principal's Kwon main desk. Pictures of football player celebrating, the soccer team's goalkeeper mid-fly, the volleyball team and their last point to make it to nationals, and her recent capture of the cheerleading captain. Lynn's eyes sparkled with excitement as she laid out her plans. "I was thinking about creating a school spirit zine," she began, her voice filled with enthusiasm. "I could capture all the best moments, from sports games to school events. It would be a great way to showcase our school's spirit!"

Principal Lee leaned forward, her expression a mix of interest and skepticism. She adored Lynn's job, and every time she'd seen it, she'd be sure to tell her how much she appreciated and admire her passion. "That's a wonderful idea, Lynn," she said thoughtfully, still analyzing her pictures. "A school spirit zine would definitely be a great addition to our school culture." She paused, her brow furrowing slightly. "But, Miss Kawakami, it's a big undertaking. I'm not sure if you can handle it all on your own."

Lynn's enthusiasm didn't waver. "I know it's a big project, Principal Kwon," she admitted, her voice filled with determination. "But I'm willing to give it my best shot."

Principal Kwon nodded, her expression softening. "I appreciate your enthusiasm, Lynn," she said. "Perhaps we could approach this differently. What if we started a photography club? You could be the president and lead the project. That way you can also find people to help you with the zine."

Lynn's eyes widened in excitement. "A photography club?" she repeated, a grin spreading across her face. "That's more like it... I could recruit members to help with the zine and other projects."

Principal Kwon smiled. "Exactly. And to help you get started, you can set up a booth at the upcoming club fair to recruit members for your photography team."

Lynn's heart raced with excitement as she left the principal's office. The idea of creating a photography club and bringing her vision to life was exhilarating. She couldn't wait to start planning.

As soon as she got home, she pulled out her sketchbook and began sketching out ideas for posters and flyers. Her hands moved quickly, her mind filled with images of students gathering around her booth, eager to join her team. This was the beginning of something truly special, and Lynn was determined to make it a success.

The morning bell hadn’t even rung yet, and Lynn was already in a whirlwind of activity. Armed with a stack of freshly printed posters, she navigated the bustling hallways with the determination of a seasoned campaign manager. Her target audience: every available surface. Lockers, bulletin boards, even the occasional empty classroom door – nothing was safe from Lynn’s poster-plastering mission.

Each poster was a vibrant explosion of color and text, promising an exciting new adventure for photography enthusiasts. Lynn had carefully crafted the design, balancing eye-catching visuals with concise information about the upcoming photography club. As she moved from one spot to another, she couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement. This was more than just a club; it was a potential community of like-minded individuals who shared her passion for capturing the world through a lens.

Just as she was finishing up a particularly good spot near the science wing, she spotted her friends, Sullin, Shion, and Hayeon, huddled around their lockers. A perfect opportunity. Lynn approached them with a triumphant grin.

“Check it out!” she exclaimed, gesturing towards the freshly pasted poster. Sullin’s eyes widened in curiosity. “What’s got you so excited, Lynn?” she asked.

Leaning against a locker, Lynn explained her morning’s mission. “I just finished putting up posters for the new photography club! Principal Lee approved my idea, and I’m going to be the president.”

Shion raised an eyebrow. “A photography club, huh? That’s pretty cool. I hope you find some other shutterbugs like yourself around here.”

Hayeon, ever dramatic, rolled her eyes. “Shutterbugs? Really, Shion? I’ve never seen anyone else in this school carrying a camera besides Lynn. Maybe they’re all hiding in plain sight.”

Lynn laughed. “Well, that’s what the club fair is for, right? To find those hidden talents.” She paused, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. “I can’t wait to meet other people who are passionate about photography.”

Sullin nodded in agreement. “I’m curious to see what kind of people join. Maybe we should all join just for fun.”

Hayeon groaned. “No way. I can barely hold a pencil straight, let alone a camera.”

Lynn chuckled. “Don’t worry, Hayeon. You can be our official cheerleader. We’ll need someone to boost our morale.”

Hayeon grinned. “Deal. But I'll only go to the meetings if there are free snacks involved.”

Shion, ever the voice of reason, interjected, "I don't think that's how clubs work." Her tone was lighthearted as always, but there was an underlying hint of amusement.

Sullin retorted, "We can make our own rules." A mischievous glint appeared in her eyes as she turned to Lynn, emphasizing her point. "I mean, the founder is on our side after all."

Lynn couldn't help but laugh at their playful banter. "So that means there'll be free snacks?" Hayeon teased again.

"Let's just go to class. You know how Professor Kang gets if we're late," Shion said, her tone laced with a hint of urgency.

With a collective sigh, the friends began to make their way toward their classroom, their laughter and excited chatter gradually subsiding as they prepared to immerse themselves in the academic world once more.

Lynn and Sullin were deep in conversation as they navigated the crowded hallways, their laughter echoing off the tiled walls as they headed to english class, leaving Hayeon and Shion. As they rounded a corner, their cheerful banter was abruptly cut short by a group of boys huddled near their lockers.

"Did you hear about the new photography club?" one boy sneered, his voice laced with contempt.

"A photography club? Are you kidding me?" another boy scoffed. "The principal has officially lost it."

Lynn and Sullin exchanged a concerned glance. The boys' words, like icy daggers, pierced through the warm bubble of optimism that had been surrounding Lynn.

"Whoever started that club must be a total loner," one of the boys continued, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Probably some nerd who has nothing better to do than take pictures of their shoes."

A wave of disappointment washed over Lynn. It was as if a cold bucket of water had been dumped on her enthusiasm. She had been so excited about the prospect of sharing her passion with others, but now, doubt was creeping in.

Sullin squeezed Lynn's hand reassuringly. "Don't let them get to you," she whispered. "There are plenty of people who appreciate art and creativity."

Lynn nodded, trying to maintain a brave front. "I know," she replied, her voice barely a whisper. "But it's still discouraging to hear people talk like that."

As they continued walking, Lynn fell silent, her mind racing. She couldn't deny that the boys' words had struck a chord. This wasn't the first time she had encountered this kind of attitude towards art. Throughout her years in High School, the focus had always been on sports and academics. Art, and photography in particular, was seen as an extracurricular activity at best, a waste of time at worst.

"Maybe you're right," Sullin said, breaking the silence. "Maybe there aren't a lot of people who share your passion in this school. But that doesn't mean there aren't any. There has to be at least one person out there who appreciates photography as much as you do."

Lynn managed a small smile. "I hope so," she replied. "I just want to prove to everyone that photography is more than just a hobby. It's a way to express yourself, to capture moments, to tell stories."

They reached their classroom and took their seats. As the teacher began to speak, Lynn's mind was still racing. She was determined not to let the negative comments dampen her spirits. After all, she had come this far. Giving up now wasn't an option.

The club fair was in full swing, a vibrant tapestry of colors, sounds, and eager faces. Yet, amidst this bustling atmosphere, Lynn and Sullin’s photography club booth stood as an island of quiet solitude. A few curious glances were cast their way, but no one seemed particularly interested in joining a club dedicated to clicking pictures.

Disappointment began to creep into Lynn's heart. Maybe this was a bad idea after all, she thought. Perhaps everyone was right to doubt her. Sullin, sensing her friend's growing discouragement, squeezed her hand reassuringly.

Just as Lynn was about to give up hope, a familiar figure emerged from the crowd. It was Yoon Seoyeon, a star athlete from the cross-country team, known for her speed and determination. Surprisingly, she approached the photography club booth with an air of casual confidence.

Without hesitation, Seoyeon reached out and grabbed one of the flyers. Lynn and Sullin exchanged surprised glances. This was a complete unexpected turn of events.

"A photography club, huh?" Seoyeon said, examining the flyer with genuine interest. "Sounds pretty cool, actually." She paused, a thoughtful expression crossing her face. "I've never done anything like that before, but I have a friend who might be interested. She's always been into artsy stuff, secretly."

A murmur of surprise rippled through the crowd as they witnessed the popular athlete showing interest in a seemingly mundane club. Heads turned, eyes widening in disbelief. It was as if a small earthquake had just occurred in the social hierarchy of the school.

Lynn and Sullin couldn't believe their luck. This was a major breakthrough. They exchanged excited glances, their spirits soaring.

"Really?" Lynn asked, trying to contain her enthusiasm. "That would be amazing!"

Seoyeon nodded, a friendly smile on her face. "Yeah, I'll definitely show her the flyer. Maybe I'll see you around," she said, giving them a casual wave before disappearing back into the crowd.

As Seoyeon walked away, Lynn and Sullin couldn't stop grinning. They had managed to capture the attention of one of the most popular students in school, and it was all thanks to their photography club. Perhaps their idea wasn't so bad after all.
