“So I’m going to ask you a favor, sleepyhead. Ever since we were kids, I’d always be the one to wake you up when you slept in. But this time, when all of this is over, will you come to wake me up?”
“…I promise.”
Those words kept playing in his mind over and over; taunting him with the fact that she’d just slipped through his fingers.
He had found her again. They were finally reunited after having so many chances snatched away from them…
…but yet again, they had to be separated.
And it took all of Link’s willpower to not just give up and cry.
He wanted to. He wanted to give up so badly. He was so tired of it all. Of fighting, of being injured, of the long lonely nights out in the wilderness…
…of being separated from those he loves.
He wanted to be able to rest, much like how he could during his academy days.
But he couldn’t. Because he had a job to do. They both did.
And so, after he took a moment to compose himself, he looked at her crystal and made another promise to her. He didn’t know if she could hear him or not. But somehow, it made him feel a bit better.
“I won’t fail.”
After that, he turned and walked away, knowing that it all hinged on him now.
