Work Text:
Professor Vivian Bell was different when she returned from the desert. Some believed that the dissolution of her marriage had caused her to have a bit of a breakdown- she never bothered to correct them by letting them know she was the one who initiated proceedings. Some noted the faraway look that would come into her eyes from time to time- Vivian Bell had never been prone to daydream.
She still wasn't, but that didn't mean she didn't smile when she called a memory to mind.
Most curious of all, they noted that any time a soft rain was falling, Professor Bell would walk outside without an umbrella and just let the rain fall on her uncovered head and body. It would sometimes take more than one person to come out with dire warnings about pneumonia before she would come in.
Her attention would wander any time a train whistle was heard in the distance as if she wanted to hurry down to the station to meet it.
Her colleagues watched her and thought her peculiar. In reality, she was counting the seconds until the semester ended and she and Cay could be together again.
