Work Text:
King waited by the window for Luz to come through the portal. He knew she would come soon, he could trust them to at least visit him every afternoon, but he had no other way to spend his time. He nearly jumped out of his skin when he felt Raine tap him.
“Sorry King.”
“It’s okay.”
“I’m sure Luz is on her way-”
“She isn't.” he pointed to the clock. “He still has half an hour left of school.”
“Oh, well, uh. While we wait, do you want to play with me? I have some spare time.”
King shook his head, “I’m not in the mood today, thanks though.” The bard nodded and left King to wait. A long while later, Luz ran through the door, dumping their stuff on the couch before hugging King.
“How are you, King?” She let go and took in King’s mood, “What’s with the frown? Aren’t you glad to see me?”
Eda walked in and ruffled her hair. “Hey kid. This one is upset at me. He wants to help with rebuilding efforts.”
“You let Luz help!”
“He was with their friends, that’s different.”
Raine walked over and joined Luz in watching the bickering couple. “They’ve been like this all day, Eda’s been busy, and I’ve tried to get through to King but…”
“Yeah, I think I get where he’s coming from. I’ll talk to him.”
Raine nodded and tapped their partner, “Eda.” They reminded.
“Hey King, want to go on a walk?” King grabbed his sibster’s hand. They left the house. Luz gave him a few minutes to calm down, and to see if he would open up on his own, before asking, “So what's the deal with Eda? Something about rebuilding efforts?”
“I want to help with reforming the town, but she won't let me.”
Luz took a moment to digest this information, “Why do you want to help? You know it’s not-”
“Yeah, yeah it’s not my fault or whatever. It just gets boring at the Owl House, I don’t want to play all the time, and it's not the same without you anyway. I just want to be…”
“Productivie?”
“Yeah.”
Luz nodded. “Have you told Eda that?”
“She always says that I can help her in the market, but that’s her thing, the most I can do is attract customers.”
“Have you asked Raine? They're always trying to bond with us. I’m sure they’d be eager to teach you some magic. Come to think of it, their whistles are similar to your magic.”
“Maybe I will do that, thanks sib.”
“Anything for you. Y'know what? I got some spare snails, want to head to the market and buy some candy bags?”
“Can you carry me?”
“Course!”
