Chapter Text
As Lance wandered through the halls on a mission to find a specific former black paladin, he was determined on three things, finally come to terms with his feelings, ask Shiro what Keith likes, and then find Keith and confess.
Except, things don't always go as planned...
Lance found Shiro in his room at the Garrison that he shared with Adam and Keith, both of which were there. Great.
"Hey, uhm Shiro." Lance started before having to clear hid throat of the nervousness he found himself having. "Allura's looking for you." He lied, but only to not raise suspicion amongst the other two in the room. "She said she needed you for just a second, probably something to do with working the Atlas."
Thankfully Shiro doesn't question stuff like that very often. So he left and Lance followed. Once far enough away from the room Lance had stopped him for the actual reason.
"Shiro, Allura doesn't actually need to talk to you. I do though." Lance admitted.
Shiro just gave a slight nod which was all Lance need to continue.
Lance had a debate with himself inside his own mind. How should he approach this, what should he ask about, so many things are going through Lances mind when Shiro snaps him out of it.
"This is about Keith, right?" Shiro said it so blankly that it made Lance dumbfounded for a moment.
"Yeah, it is." The Red Paladin admits. "What should I, I mean how." Lance groaned and covered his face with his hands. "Why is this so embarrassing." The brunet groans into his hands.
Just then the realization set in. "Wait, you're planning on asking him out." Shiro says, a little too excited, earning a small little nod from the paladin.
"So you came to me for advice."
"Mhm."
"Ok, well Lance, Keith just likes to know people care. Behind his tough exterior he's really sweet. As for gifts he's not one for major things, get him something simple if anything at all." Shiro explains. "He's got a few things that he keeps on him and would kill if they went missing but they're all small but meaningful such as his blade from his mom."
Lance just nods, he looks at Shiro. Hr never thought that he would ever meet Shiro, let alone rescue him from the Garrison and then be sent into space with him for them to be bonded to robotic lions. But I guess there's a reason why things happen.
"So you're saying don't get Keith anything big." Lance says, just to make sure that he understands. Shiro nods and looks at thr paladin infront of him.
"So when are you planning on asking him?" Shiro asks giving a look that tells Lance that the former paladin has been waiting for this for atleast a little while.
"I don't know, tomorrow or tonight. I want to do it while we are still on earth." Lance looks at Shiro. "Do you think he'll say yes." The brunette is hopeful that Shiro will say yes but also had found himself thinking about the what ifs.
"I think it'll be fine." Shiro says as he pats Lances shoulder earning a small smile from the boy.
"Thanks Shiro." He say, now with a better determination to actually ask Keith. The older man then nods and goes back to the dorm that he shares with his family, leaving Lance standing alone in the hallway.
Ok, new agenda. Get a small gift for Keith and then ask him. It shouldn't be too hard. He left that same afternoon to go out to the now up and running mall in hopes to find a small thing that Keith would like.
While making his was to the mall Lance had tried to think of something to get Keith that he would like.
"A braclet? No. Another jacket? He seems perfectly fine with his current one. Oh how about just some flowers. Flowers? In space, no." He asked himself outloud and then continued to shut down the ideas. "I'll know it when I see it." He says as he get to the front door of the mall.
Lance draws in a breath and then shakes it out. He's never been this nervous about something like this. Yes, his previous relationships weren't all that serious but still. Either way he knew what he had to do which was find a gift for Keith. Wandering through the stores in search of a gift he could not find Lance started to loose hope.
"Maybe this was a bad idea." He mumbled to himself as he went into a junk store. "I can't even find a stupid gift for him." The red paladin said to himself as he looks at the racks of random items that were donated to the shop. There's a few things that Lance saw, a small plush of voltron, some random kitchen knives, and a few peices of jewelry. But nothing that Keith eould enjoy. So Lance just looked through the jewelry, basically giving up hope of finding a gift.
"Maybe flowers will just have to do." He said as he picked mindlessly at the pile of jewelry infront of him. As he stood there sifting through the jewelry something shiney caught his attention, so naturally he grabbed it.
A small, silver pendant with some red crystals decorating it. It looked almost brand new and was small enough that if put on a chain it wouldn't be too much of a hassle. Lance smiled, he found the gift that Keith would hopefully enjoy. So he went and paid for the pendant, got a metal chain and then went back to the Garrison.
Lance had to do just one more thing before going and asking Keith out. Put the pendant on the chain. So that's what he did. He went immediately to his room that he shared with Hunk and strung the chain through the tiny hole in the small pendant.
"There now he can wear it, if he wants." Lance said to himself as he looked at the now necklace.
"Hey dude, what're you up to." Hunk says, startling Lance.
"Hey Hunk." The red paladin said after basically restarting his heart from the startle.
"What's that?" The yellow paladin asks after glancing over Lance's shoulder, seeing the pendent.
"It's just a gift." Lance says as he grabs the pendent and puts it in his pocket.
"For who?"
"Just someone." Lance says trying to fight blushing but he ends up having a slight redness to his cheeks.
"Is it for Keith?" Hunk asks, already knowing the answer. "Dude, so you actually going to do it, you're going to ask him."
Lance stumbles over his words before finally making out, "How did you know?"
"It's obvious. Literally the entire team knows."
"Yeah we do." Pidge adds, making Lance wonder where they came from.
"Ok did you guys just come here to make fun of me, because now's not the time." Lance says.
"Lance, calm down it's not that we're making fun of you it's just that it is painstakingly obvious that you like him." Pidge says. "It's been obvious that you did before you even recognized it yourself. All that time during the Garrison where during simulations you would constantly be talking about him and his mullet. And the constant bickering between you two. It's obvious."
"Oh so you did just come here to make fun of me." He said as he grabbed the gift for Keith.
"Lance, good luck, I'm sure he couldn't say no to you." Pidge adds as they notice Lance leaving the room, seemingly upset. "I'm sure of it."
The red paladin gives a soft smile with his back turned to the two and then leaves the room. God he's never been so insecure about a little bit of teasing, but maybe it was just his nerves.
Ok time to confront his feelings to Keith.
