Work Text:
Bruno watched as Julieta took the lead, carefully creaking the door to the room open to peak outside without being noticed. At this hour as the sun had set for the day, it was truly starting to grow dark as night was soon setting in.
Which of course meant that they were expected to head to their rooms, and Alma catching them out of bed would be a metaphorical death sentence. So far Julieta and Pepa had gathered in Bruno’s room as it was more secluded, giving a much better view when trying to spy mamá in the area. Especially in the darkness.
He watches with Pepa as Julieta keeps peeking out. Out of the three of them, she’s got the best vision.
She leans back in, carefully closing the door, making sure to not make a sound. Mamá thinks all of them are in bed by now, they couldn’t give themselves away, especially when mamá often had a hard time falling asleep, and sometimes took walks through the house to ease her mind. A hard obstacle when it came to sneaking out, if asking the three teenagers.
“How’s it going?” Pepa asks, clearly impatient about leaving the house. Santiago and Paola were having a small gathering, and knew that Ruben, Félix and Amelia would join too. Maybe Enrique and Agustín too if they could manage to sneak out of their houses, their separate parents almost as bad as Alma when it came to sneaking out of the house. It was almost impossible. But the triplets of course wanted to join, they were teenagers after all, and rebellion was part of that, even if Bruno was the most quiet one when it came to rebellion, letting his sister take the lead.
“I can’t see her, but hear footsteps far away. Ground floor. I think she was going to the stairs so I’m not risking opening the door to listen for another minute or two. Not if you want to be caught.”
That was the last thing on Bruno’s mind, and he is sure his sisters have the same thought. Being caught by mamá was nothing that none of them ever wanted to experience. Even if he’s not as social as his sisters, he too was looking forward to the night out and meeting with some friends, and he certainly didn’t want to face down mamá’s wrath, and hear a “I’m disappointed”-lecture from her either.
He is letting Julieta take the lead, and so does Pepa. Julieta is usually the one with the best escape plans, and the one with the best hearing. Pepa's hearing has been damaged since she was like six because of all the thunder above her. Bruno is just bad at picking up small sounds.
“Damn it. Of course she’s deciding to walk around now. What is she, an insomniac?” Pepa asks.
“Oh we all know she is,” Bruno says. “She just won’t admit it himself. Where do you think you got your problems from? Absolutely her.”
“And I hate it. She’s making it impossible to do anything around here. I just want to get out of here already, it's taking too long.”
“You two, be quiet,” Julieta says as she hushes both of them. “Or do you want us to be caught before we’ve even left Bruno’s room? That would be way too embarrassing, and I’ve got a date to get to.”
“You and Agustín aren’t even dating yet,” Bruno says.
“And you don’t even know if he’s going to be able to sneak out,” Pepa continues.
“Doesn’t matter. I might have a date when we get to Santiago’s. And I know you two wanted to play that game with Félix and Amelia, so if you want to actually get to the party, be quiet or mamá is going to find out.”
“Who put you in charge?” Pepa asks.
“Well, if you wanna take over our escape attempt, be my guest.”
Bruno rolls his eyes.
“Pepa, Julieta, the two of you can argue when we’ve got out of here.”
“Shut up Bruno,” came a collective response.
Sisters.
He sighs, wondering if they’ll ever get out of here. He hopes so, because there’s some mischief to be had.
But at this rate, they're never getting out of here.
