Work Text:

The young beast was prancing around with it’s herd, chasing after it’s peers and catching up with its mother. The beast was dancing cheerfully around in an open field near a lake on a sunny afternoon, rabbits hopping in the distance occasionally, bushes lining the shoreline, anything you would see really. It was a nice afternoon. A nice place to rest for the herd.

“When are we gonna get out!? This thing is making me sick.” A droplet gagged, almost falling over as the beast hopped. “Whenever it feels like it needs to go tinkle, dear.” An old droplet said. Coolio guessed she was about 290,000,000 years old, due to her dull color. “Do you mean when they need to urinate?” Another droplet said, snorting. Wait, hold on. Were they all yellow? “Guys! I think we’re yellow.” Coolio shouted in the dark space crowded with other droplets. “Whoop! Urination!” cheered a couple of droplets.“Is that a good thing?” piped up a young droplet, sounding nervous. “I’m pretty sure it means that we’re getting out soon. Or.. hm. Soon.” Coolio mused, his shiny figure standing out in the dark space, his shades on the top of his head. “I hope it does!” said the young water droplet cheerfully. Coolio couldn’t wait to get out of this thing. He had a friend to meet up with in the clouds in the next 4 months and a meeting at the ocean reef in 7.

Coolio let out a breath of relief as water droplets were disappearing near the far end. That means he was getting out soon, what a relief. He was tired of being in an animal’s stomach for 2 hours. “Out of the deer we go!” A scruffy voice said. A deer? What a weird thing. He hated learning about animal’s names. What was the difference between a frog and a cat? Just call everything a cat or a frog, it's that easy. Coolio was caught by surprise when he was drained out of the deer. “AUGH-” Coolio yelled, trying to hide the surprise in his voice as he got slammed into the soil beneath the deer. He had gotten a quick glance of it before he seeped into the ground, everything turning darker than it was in the deer’s stomach.

“Eugh.” Coolio sneered, dirt getting into his shiny appearance. He knew it wouldn’t do much if he didn’t let it sink in easily. “Hey!” a droplet called beneath him with a hint of excitement. “Is this the first time you’ve been in the soil? It’s my second. Watch out!” the droplet squealed as it wriggled farther away from Coolio. “What?” Coolio asked in a confused tone before screeching. Right beside him, was, indeed, a worm. Coolio screamed, wiggling farther into the soil. “What is that!?” the droplet asked, concerned. “Just-- a worm. They’re weird, they have no eyes.” Coolio replied. Keeping the shock out of his tone. “Last time I was here, I was stuck for like… 3 months! A month is 3 weeks right?” the droplet chriped, changing the subject. “It's 4 weeks.” Coolio replied in the darkness, unsure where the other droplet was. “Ohh, then I was here for less than 3 months..” the droplet said in a thoughtful tone. “What’s your name?” the droplet asked, her voice curious. “Coolio.” Coolio murmured, thinking about how long he would stay here. “Great name! Mine’s Bo. B and an O! Bo!” Bo giggled. “We’re gonna have to stay here for a while.” Coolio sighed. “Maybe we’ll become groundwater.” Bo mused. Coolio was horrified.

“How many months has it been again?” Bo groaned, all of her energy gone from the first time they met. “Like… a month and a half. We should evaporate soon.” Coolio sighed, he didn’t know how long it would soon be. “If we’re in here for another month I swear I’ll let a worm drink me!” Bo declared, sounding bold for the first time ever. “Getten drunk by a worm isn’t so bad, it's not like you disappear for like… ever.” Other Droplet said, which Coolio had never learned the name of. “Ugggh! I hate being in the soil!” Complained Bo. “I heard we’re in a hot spot, so we must be getting out soon.” Coolio said, just to make Bo shut her trap.

“It's happening!” Bo sang. Coolio watched in awe as he saw himself, Bo, and Other Water Droplet becoming slowly, but surely, water vapor.

“I wanna go to Texas!” Other Water Droplet said, whooping as they rose up into the blue sky. “Eww. It’s all hot and sticky there. How about.. mmm... Michigan!” Coolio’s mind whirled, he had never been to either. “Well um- I wanna go to Sss….Spain.” Coolio had heard his friend say that there was the Eiffel Tower there, or was it the White House? “Why Spain? It’s like all the way in Europe and hot.” Coolio ignored her question,“We need to form a cloud with others.. We need to condense into a cloud. Or else we’re gonna be stranded here.” Coolio flew towards… nowhere. Halting as he realized Bo and Other Water Droplet weren’t following. “Over there!” Other Water Droplet yelled, beckoning Coolio over. “Oh--” Coolio felt his face grow hot. “Whoops.” He was glad his shades were still on. Other Water Droplet chuckled as they all flew towards the crowd of water vapor, slowly becoming a cloud. “Quick!” Bo squealed, quickening in pace. “Alright, alright.”
After a couple of seconds, they made it.
“Heyy! Care to join us?” a random water vapor asked, grinning. “That’s what we came here for.” Coolio stated, not in a rude way, but more of a ‘just stating a fact’ way. “Hop in!” An energetic water vapor cheered, beckoning. Bo, Other Water Droplet, and Coolio flew over to the crowd. “Oooo! It’s working!” Bo exclaimed, beaming. Coolio felt himself growing lightheaded, looking around as all of the water vapor formed a cloud. “This is so cool!” “Calm down.”

Next thing Coolio knew, he was floating in a cloud, as a cloud. Being a cloud never failed him to be awestruck. “We’re in California right now.. I think.” A smart sounding water vapor said. “California. Mmmm, alright.” Coolio murmured. “CALIFORNIA?!” Bo said, surprised. “I thought we were in Texas..” Other Water Droplet said, embarrassed. “I mean, it’s pretty hot in both.” “Ooh! Oooh! This is gonna be so much more fun than being in the soil!” Bo chirped. “You were in the soil?” “I was in the ocean!” “Lake for me.” “Goodness! I was in a river!” “I had to wait so long for my glacier to melt.. Oh… I shouldn’t have reminded myself.”
Coolio rolled his eyes as the crowd of water vapor exploded with their stories on where they were before they were all in a cloud.

“Coolio!” A voice in the distance yelped. Wait. He recognized this voice. “Apollo?” He watched as the gleaming Apollo flew towards him, running into him laughing. “Jeez, you’re a week early.” Coolio smiled. “Hmm, I guess so.” Apollo made a thinking noise before Bo squirmed over beside Coolio. “Who’s this?” Bo asked in a confused tone. “Oh yeah- Apollo, meet Bo. Bo, meet Apollo.” “Don’t forget me.” Other Water Droplet grunted, shoving his way over to them. “I’m Jackie.” Oh, so he did have a name? “Hey Jackie and Bo!” Apollo grinned, he was like that. “I swear Apollo is a Greek god…” Coolio heard Smartvapor say. He gave everyone nicknames when he didn’t know their names. “Hummm, how long have you been in this cloud? It’s getting heavier than a feather weight.” Apollo looked around at the crowded cloud. “I’m guessing about… 3 months.” Coolio said, trying to shrug. “We saw DISNEY!” Bo interrupted, doing a small twirl which threw off the whole cloud for a split second. “We saw a mouse, it was pretty huge.” Jackie joined in, explaining the whole story to Apollo.

“I think we’re going to drop to the ocean soon. We’re getting too heavy. Condensation really needs to calm down, we don’t need to condense so quickly.” Apollo thought out loud. “No kidding.” Conversationvapor remarked, “We’re definitely going to drop in the next hour if it keeps being this cold, brrr.” Coolio didn’t like Conversationvapor, but he had to agree. If the temperature kept being at this rate, they would definitely be dropped into the ocean below soon.

“Coolio! Jackie!” Bo called, rushing towards both of them, plus Apollo. “We’re getting too heavy, and I want us all to stick together!” Bo circled the group together, making them tightly packed together. “Alright.” Bo squeezed between Jackie and Apollo. Apollo giggled. “I’m sure we would’ve found each other.” He grinned. “Do you know how big the ocean is?” Jackie snorted, a small smile tugging at his mouth. “Well-” Apollo started, but then Bo screamed as they were all dropped into the ocean below as precipitation. I can’t tell if Bo’s strategy is working.. Coolio looked down gingerly, making sure his shades wouldn’t fall off, watching as other water droplets fell faster than others. Some larger, some smaller. Instinctively, Bo, Apollo, Coolio, and Jackie merged into a large water droplet, plummeting towards the water faster than others. They all got dumped into the ocean, small bubbles forming because of the small collision. “That was.. Awesome!” Bo screamed, twirling. Coolio only saw the outline of her droplet figure, including many others. “I always hate that part.” Sighed Apollo, “I’m glad it’s over.” Coolio nodded. “We need to head to the coral reef for my meeting in a couple days.” “Isn’t the coral reef in like… Florida?” Apollo guessed, he usually came to Coolio’s meetings. “Yep, right now we’re in… hm..” “Louisiana!” he heard Smartvapor yell before giggling and swimming off with other water droplets.. “Louisiana, knew it.” Coolio gloated, spinning around. “Whatever,” Jackie said, sighing. “I heard it’s about 2 days to travel there using the Gulf Stream.” Apollo said. “We should go this instant.” Coolio declared before looking around. “Uhhm, where’s the gulf current?” Apollo silently shook his head… body.

After 2 days, they were finally there, finally. “This place is beautiful!” Bo breathed, her eyes shining in wonder. Jackie couldn’t help but agree. “It should be in about an hour, so we should go find the WDCC Coral.” “The what-” Bo started, before Apollo interrupted. “His company name, it helps droplets, vapor, and ice transport messages to friends. I’m not sure how it works, it sends some message to the brain or something..” “Creepy.” Shivered Jackie, lagging behind the 3 of them. The vibrant coral reef surrounded them, mixtures of scrawny, thick, bumpy, smooth, young, and old coral. A variety of marine life swam gracefully around them, both fast and slow. The water being a teal color due to the gleaming sunlight, and anemones spotting the sand beneath them. “There!” Coolio said unexpectedly. “Whoa!” Jackie gasped at the colorful reef, it being connected to two other corals. One bumpy, one short, and the main part was tall and smooth. The colors consisted of blue, pink, and orange. “It’s wonderful isn’t it?” Apollo said before launching himself inside the reef. The other 3 imitated him.

“You guys wait here.” Coolio said in the orange reef, which was the bumpy one. “I don’t mind..” Jackie said. “Alright!” Bo squealed. “Mhm.” Apollo said, leaning against the wall of the coral reef.

Coolio came out 20 minutes later, looking tired. His shades were slanted on his face. “Being CEO is hard..” Coolio groaned. “I can tell.” Bo said, grinning.

“How long have we been here?” Bo bugged Jackie. “Like, 10 months.” Jackie frowned. “Once I was in the ocean for 2,000 years with Coolio, it was nice. We saw a megalodon! I think they’re all gone now. I haven’t seen one in many many many years.” Apollo jumped in. “It was boring..” Coolio complained, pushing up his shades. “It sounds terrible!” Bo shrieked, wild worry in her eyes. “I don’t want to be here for that long! Oh.. we should go up to the surface!” “Bo, don’t you like being in the coral reef? It’s like a town here! It’s beautiful too.” Jackie objected. “I say we give it two more months till we try to evaporate.” Bo snorted, bewildered. Apollo agreed, and Jackie whooped.

“It’s been 2 months! Let’s go up to the shallows! Now!” Bo danced, twirling and spinning. “I’ve gotten sick of this myself.” Jackie groaned, rising from the sand he was standing, well sitting on. Coolio looked at the colorful reef they had been inhabiting for the past months. “This place never gets old.” Apollo sighed, smiling. “Alright, let’s go up to the shallows now.”

Each of the droplets rose up to the shallows, a wondering gleam in their eyes

“Weee! This is gonna be so fun!” Bo squealed, practically dancing. “Ehhh..” Jackie muttered. “How long do we have to wait? Please don’t say a couple of days! I can’t wait that long!” Bo whined. “I’d say a couple hours if we’re lucky enough.” Coolio said, looking up at the sunny sky. “We can try going up.. up,” Apollo suggested. “Yes! Please?” Bo looked at both Jackie and Coolio. “Sure.” “I don’t care.”

Then they all went up...up. Up to the complete surface of the water.

“It’s hot here..” Bo complained. “You wanted to go here!’ Coolio snapped, bewildered. “It’s very hot here.” Jackie murmured. “Where are we again?” Apollo asked, clearly wondering about the heat. “Florida.” Jackie sighed. “I swear if I have to STAND and SIT in this heat for another DAY I will hop on an island and never see anyone again.” Bo declared, catching an amused glance from Apollo. “I am so moved.” Coolio said after a short pause.

“It’s happening!” Bo cheered, watching herself as she turned into water vapor. “Is it just me or-- oh it’s not just me.” Jackie mused. “I hate feeling light headed.” Apollo complained, rising a foot higher above the surface of the water. “I’m not sure who doesn’t.” Jackie snorted. “Shut up and enjoy being evaporated.” Coolio rolled his eyes. “Evaporate, Evaporation,” Bo mocked. They all lifted high above sea level, reaching the other freshly formed water vapor. “Let’s go!” Bo cheered, zipping towards a huddle of unknown water vapor. “Wait!-” Jackie yelped uncharacteristically, chasing after Bo. Apollo laughed and ran behind, and Coolio shortly after.

“We’re gonna form such a big cloud!” Loudvapor cheered, doing a small spin. “Yeah!” Bo agreed, beaming. All the water droplets exchanged glances of excitement, worry, and encouragement before merging to form the “biggest cloud” ever. Where would they head off to now? “Let’s go to Rome!” Somebody bellowed. “Germany!” Another objected. “I like Greece.” Apollo grinned, ignoring the two bickering water vapors. Maybe condensing with this group wouldn’t be so bad.“Of course.” Coolio rolled his eyes under his shades, smiling.
