Quackity went up the stairs to their house, his shoulders heavy. He glanced at his watch. 11:43 PM.
He sighed, knowing it was late, and that he left that slime he decided to keep around four days ago alone all day.
He felt... weirdly guilty for leaving him alone for so long.
It's fine, Quackity told himself, unlocking the door.
Slime was right there.
Smiling, he was standing just a foot from the door, as if he had been waiting for the exact moment Quackity would come inside the house.
"Hello, Quackity from Las Nevadas." Slime said, "it's late."
"Yeah, yeah, I know." Quackity sighed, slipping off his shoes, "sorry I'm late."
"I didn't know when you'd be coming back!"
"Well, now you do, so you'll know next time." He felt a yawn "I'm going to bed."
Slime pouted "But- but- you promised!"
Quackity raised a brow "Promised what?"
"You promised!" Slime repeated, "you promised we were going to look at the stars."
Oh... Oh, shit, that's right.
It was two days ago, but he remembered. Quackity had been tired, and he promised to look at the stars with Slime.
"You forgot," Slime frowned.
"Hey, hey, no- no, I didn't forget." Quackity reassured him, "just... give me a second. I'll meet you outside in a minute, okay?"
Slime brightened "okay!"
He watched Slime go out the door.
Quackity sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. He really needed sleep, but, he didn't like the look on Slime's face when he realized Quackity forgot his promise.
So he'd stay up a bit longer.
Quackity went out to the porch, where Slime sat on the stairs. Slime smiled when he saw Quackity.
"You really did remember!"
Quackity snorted, taking a seat next to him "Course I did. I wouldn't leave you hanging like that."
He looked up, staring at the clear night sky.
"Stars are pretty." Quackity murmured.
"They're so shiny!" Slime exclaimed, "I never got to really look at them."
"Me... neither." He realized and despite that, he found himself chucking
And they sat in comfortable silence.
