A Special Gift

Summary:

He may appreciate them all... But there's this one gift which is different from the rest, isn't it?

Work Text:

Presents after presents filled the room and it always had the twins stare in awe. Awe and shock rather. Then again, it was nothing unusual at the end of the day, was it? It had to be expected actually. After all, Shu☆zo was easily the most popular idol around, or at the very least one of the most popular. He was Trichronika’s leader for a reason, wasn’t he? So that there would be lots of fanmail on that day… It was far from surprising. It was anything but surprising. Having fans send in all sorts of things – From letters to presents right in the mailbox if not managing to show up in person within Midicity and handing over all sorts of things wrapped up in boxes, very neatly. And each was accepted with the usual, polite yet cheerful smile, always hearing a ‘Thank you’ coming from Shu☆zo’s lips.

But it was like any other smile, one any fan would receive. The twins knew this and there was inherently nothing wrong with that. After all, every fan, their Dream Galaxy Tourists, deserved a smile. ‘We’d be nothing without their support~’ Shu☆zo would always say and honestly he had a point. Without the necessary support even a band like Trichronika would be nowhere, as captivating as their leader was to the masses. It was the talk of the fans which kept everything going, keeping everything alive. And it was not as if this smile wasn’t genuine. However, there was a different type of smile on his lips that one time… With that one present he had received. It had caught both of the twins’ pairs of eyes. And it was not the first time either.

The two had been mumbling amongst themself a few times before when having seen Shu☆zo sit on the armchair and read through one of the letters every time. At first the two had not thought too much about it. After all, maybe he had been just a little amused with that fan letter or something of the like. The constant chuckles, him unable to hold in that grin of his as his gaze went through every single line. At points he even looked at the brink of bursting out in laughter right and there. Sometimes he even covered his mouth with one of his hands. The amusement was not anything to ignore. And it happened more and more often. Yet unlike all the other smiles one would see from the galactic idol these smiles felt different..It was hard to put into words but it was not as if he was smiling at a mere fan here, no. It was very different from the usual. He was genuinely amused, to the point it seemed to be difficult for him to control that smile of his at the end. He couldn’t hold it in. In the end Shu☆zo was the one grinning like an idiot yet he didn’t seem to be sorry.

And today of all days it was no different. No, this seemed to have become even less possible to control for Shu☆zo. There was a package on the table, one of the several gifts received for the day. After all, today was a special day – Shu☆zo’s birthday. Several fans were more than eager to celebrate or wish him a happy birthday. More often than not did they have presents they gave to him or had sent them in the mail. They were all neatly wrapped up too! Except for the one sitting on the table. The wrapper was plastered all over the package, being held together by tape. It was as if someone had just pieced it together and called it a day. The bow was just barely holding onto the package, at the brink of falling off. One may as well put it out of its misery by wrapping it right off. Long story short  it was an utter mess compared to any of the others yet it was no sign of mockery. In fact something could tell anyone looking at this that the person had really tried here. No, seriously, really tried. There was put effort into it. Not only that but there also had been a letter attached to it, one Shu☆zo had been reading at that moment.

The twins both had been eyeing the scene with the utmost curiosity, observing the reaction of their band’s leader. And needless to say his massive, fluffy tail had been wagging over and over while reading. He may as well soak up each and every line of the letter he had just opened. What were the contents of it? None of the two could say nor did they have a clue either. But this seemed to mean a lot to him, no one could deny that.

Though it was not just the tail indicating his happiness but also the smile. Again it was different from the usual bright smiles he would show in public. No, this smile felt as if it was reserved for someone. A smile no one else would see. It was softer, warmer yet filled to the brim with happiness. It was clearly special if not almost melancholic. Usually Shu☆zo would shine brightly with his smile but this time he was radiating a certain warmth. A warmth which barely shows itself if at all. The lack of brightness was made up by that alone. It was a different sight, surely, but not one which would be not welcome. Though it was a little unusual. It was almost as if he was breaking character. Even more with this unusual soft chuckle he let out moments later.

“Even now they haven’t forgotten.” Shu☆zo then mumbled, talking to no one but himself. Though it was still audible. Perhaps he was saying this with no regard for his surroundings in any way. “I will have to thank them at the next best opportunity.”

His gaze shifted for a moment, to the package and eyeing it for a few minutes before sighing yet even now unable to hold back that smile of his. Never had the two seen him this taken aback, this happy. Just who could evoke such reactions from their band leader? They must be a special person at the very least.

You’re not as sneaky as you think you are Ann. But I’m more than happy to know that you’re still thinking about me.”
