Work Text:
Ray dreams that dream again, like when he was really drowning in the depths. Ray dreams that dream again, like when he was really soaring in the sky. Somehow both are like how he feels about his life with Fraser -- like he's just about to die and like he's never been more alive.
Cold water, dream-vivid, covers him. Open sky, dream-vivid, surrounds him. He’s tossing and turning now, waking Fraser beside him and Dief at the foot of the bed. The wolf grumbles, stirs, stretches, and settles down again. Ray dreams that he’s choosing between choking and surfacing, cries out and wakes up shaking.
Warm embrace, Fraser hugging him and murmuring “Ray, Ray, Ray” in that repetitive Fraserish way of his. It calms Ray and his shaking ceases. Ray mimics him fondly with “Frase, Frase, Frase,” and then “Ben”.
