Scar never would have thought this was how his day would go, sure, he knew Grian was pregnant but he didn't think he'd have to deliver the baby himself in a cave. Grian was exhausted and crying and shaking and Scar felt horrible for his boyfriend, unable to help beyond just giving basic praise and reassurance. It was kinda gross if he was honest, kinda very gross. But he had to be strong for Grian who was sobbing, in so much pain it seemed to paralyze him. Though when Scar caught the baby in his arms, the kinda gross switched into being disgusting. The baby covered in amniotic fluid and blood among other things. Scar kinda wanted to puke, just a little. He looked over the crying baby, the disgust fading to happiness as he realized it was a girl.
“She’s kinda disgusting but she’s here,” He said, smiling over at Grian who was panting and clearly exhausted. Scar gagged as the placenta came out afterwards, “That’s also gross.”
Grian looked up at Scar and chuckled weakly at the grossed out tone in his voice, the sight of him holding their child in his hands making him instantly happier than he’d been prior.
“She..” He panted, “I want… to hold her..”
Scar nodded, “I know honey… give me a second…” He wrapped the baby in Grian’s sweater that had been discarded on the floor. He fed Grian a healing potion to make sure he didn’t bleed out from the tearing. Next he cut the cord with his knife and put a small clamp onto it. Then Scar placed her on Grian’s chest, “Here she is, darling,” Scar positioned himself behind his boyfriend so Grian could lay on something that wasn’t the cold stone floor for the first time in hours.
Grian looked down at the baby in his arms, a tear falling down his cheek as he gently cradled her. She was beautiful, a messy mop of soft blonde hair on her little head, wide emerald eyes staring up at him as she cried. He brought a shaky hand up to her small face, gently tracing the shape of her nose and chin with his fingers, a soft and tired smile on his face.
“She’s so tiny…” Grian whispered. As the baby continued to cry, Grian gently shushed her and held her closer. “Shhh, it’s okay my little starlight… it’s okay” He whispered, gently swaying his body back and forth in an attempt to soothe her.
Scar was dumbfounded as their daughter calmed almost instantly at the sound of Grian’s voice. Grian was a natural and Scar couldn’t help but sit in awe of his boyfriend. Grian smiled down at their daughter as she calmed then turned to look at Scar with pure love in his eyes, making Scar’s heart skip a beat.
“She’s beautiful, isn’t she?” Scar said softly, kissing the top of Grian’s head making the blonde hum quietly.
“She’s perfect…” He whispered in response.
“Just like her dad,” Scar replied, smiling as Grian blushed. “She’s still covered in goo though,” He pointed out, making Grian laugh.
“We need to clean her up and I desperately need a bath…” Grian muttered with a nod.
When Scar’s communicator dinged he leaned over to check it then clicked his tongue, “Looks like we won’t have to wait much longer,” He turns the screen to Grian who laughed upon reading it.

“Mumbo Jumbo to the rescue!” Scar said dramatically.
Grian shook his head in amusement, “Mumbo is so ridiculous, you both are,” He teased.
“Very ridiculous,” Scar agreed, “But you love us regardless!”
“Yeah… he’s a great friend, always has always will be and I just love you too much,” Grian agreed before letting out a small sigh. “I’m tired.. exhausted, really. Everything still hurts..” He complained softly.
“I know… we’ll have to get Cleo to nurse you back to health after we’re out of here,” Scar said, leaning down and kissing Grian’s cheek, the man leaning into the touch before Scar locked eyes with their baby, who seemed to be fascinated with Scar. He gasped a bit, “Why hello there you sticky baby!” He joked which made Grian scoff.
“She’s staring at you…” Grian muttered.
Scar chuckled and widened his eyes making the baby smile, “She is…” He muttered in response, then added, “I feel… very judged…”
Grian smiled at the interaction, their daughter staring at Scar intensely, as if analyzing him, “She probably thinks you’re weird,” He joked.
“She’s the one covered in goo! I think she’s weird,” Scar joked, then looked to Grian for permission to hold her not knowing if Grian was ready to let go yet.
Grian smiled, looking from Scar down to their baby a couple times before nodding slightly, “Of course you can hold her, I don’t mind. Just support her head and all that.”
Scar scoffed and gently took the baby into his arms, “It’s like you don’t trust me to hold our baby!”
Grian raised an eyebrow at him, “I wonder why? You just called her a “sticky baby”.”
“In my defense, she is very sticky,” Scar replied, Grian snorted. “Hello there, little one…” He whispered, then looked over to Grian, “What did you call her? Starlight…? Starshine…? Star… something …?”
Grian shook his head, rolling his eyes, “Starshine? Seriously Scar?” He said, amusement leaking from his voice, though, his exhaustion was still very present.
“You called her something Star related and I can’t remember it for the life of me!” Scar defended, kissing the top of her head and instantly regretting it by getting a mouthful of the goo covering her body. “Ewgh- that’s disgusting!” He grimaced.
Grian burst out laughing at Scar’s reaction as he watched Scar’s grossed out face, “Oh my god, oh my god you should have seen your face just now!” He wheezed, trying to catch his breath.
Scar was unimpressed, “Look.. I didn’t realize it would transfer to me.”
“How did you not realize that you would get some of it on you!? She’s literally covered in it! Oh my god, you’re such an idiot!” He managed to get out in between laughter.
Scar glared playfully at Grian and decided a little revenge was in order, he leaned over and planted a kiss onto Grian’s lips. Grian squeaked in surprise, giggling as Scar’s lips made contact with his. When they pulled away, he made a fake grossed-out face like Scar’s, wiping his lips off on the back of his hand.
“Ugh, that’s so gross!” He said faux-dramatically. Despite his words, there was a smile on his face.
“That’s what you get for teasing me about kissing our gooey baby,” Scar said, “Normally I *love* the goo that comes out of you, but this is just plain gross!”
Grian laughed harder, rolling his eyes at Scar’s words, “Don’t say it like that!” He reprimanded, but couldn’t help the laugh in his voice.
“Why not!? That’s what it feels like! It’s gooey!” Scar defended, “It’s goo!”
“Oh my god, will you shut up about the goo?!” Grian wheezed.
“Well this is the weirdest thing I could have ever walked in on,” Scar snapped his head over to the where the third voice came from then smiled as he saw Mumbo.
“Hey there, Mumbo!” Scar said with a smile.
Grian, face flushed bright red, gave him and awkward wave.
“Are you two okay?” He asked, but the question was clearly directed at Grian.
“Scar’s talking about goo and I am tired and in pain and he keeps making me laugh,” Grian complained.
“Oh you love it!” Scar replied, Grian stuck his tongue out at him.
Mumbo laughed, “Sounds like torture! Let’s get out of here!”
Grian turned to Scar and he handed their daughter back to him, knowing that he’d want her as they left. The whole reason they were in the cave anyway was because they were hiding from the Watchers, but now that was all over they didn’t have to worry about it anymore. Mumbo handed Scar the blanket he’d brought to drape over Grian and the baby then lifted Grian into his arms. Scar stood, stretching out his legs before putting the blanket over Grian and their newborn. Grian cuddled into Mumbo’s chest and promptly fell asleep, the baby on his own chest as the three made their way out of the cave.
“Okay, so Grian needs to be brought to Cleo asap,” Scar said.
“I know, I’ll bring him over as quickly as possible, Cleo’s isn’t too far from here,” Mumbo said, then his expression became softer, “Are you alright?”
Scar nodded, “A bit traumatized, I thought I was going to lose Grian for a bit there… he passed out,” Scar informed his mustached friend. Mumbo motioned for him to keep going as they walked, both Grian and the baby sleeping peacefully in his arms. He was surprisingly strong for someone who was built like a spaghetti noodle. “I didn’t know what to do so I just shook him and- I was terrified. Not as much as Grian though, I don’t know how he stayed so strong.”
“Ah, well, Grian puts on a brave face,” Mumbo said, “He always has, nothing can shake him. Except for when it does. He’s always been like that, brave.”
Scar had to agree, Grian was a very courageous individual, “I just don’t understand him sometimes, but I love him… so much.”
“We all do,” Mumbo replied, “He’s a tough cookie, but you always seem to know how to handle him. Personally, I’d just be glad he’s okay.”
As Scar stared down at Grian and their baby girl in Mumbo’s arms all he could feel was love and adoration, shooting through his body. He would do anything to protect them. Anything. Grian was his whole world, and now they had something so precious and beautiful together. What was better than that?
