Chapter Text
Recovery girl found the two that specific night, lecturing Katsuki for being in the room at the moment when Izuku had screamed. And then lectured Izuku for screaming that loudly to bring in someone.
Izuku gave a soft nod of understanding at her speech. His hand was away from Katsukis now, clasped in his lap.
Katsukis hands were clenched by his sides. As always, he was mad about it. “Tch.” He rolled his eyes. And then proceeded to give Izuku a look. Not one of anger, or concern, it was, just a look. A confused one, but barely noticeable.
Katsuki walked out of the room back to his own. Huffing in reluctance.
Izuku and Recovery girl were silent, as Recovery girl was about to walk out of the room. Izuku spoke up and stopped her.
“Why can’t Kacchan and I visit?” Izuku quietly questioned. As if he wasn’t expecting an answer or for her to hear in general.
“Safety procedures dearie. We again aren’t completely aware of what had happened for the body swap. During further research we’ve actually come to a slightly different conclusion about the situation.” Recovery girl said confidently, her hands behind her back.
“Oh?” Izuku said, his eyebrows going up with curiosity. He readjusted in the bed against the pillows, sitting up.
Recovery girl nodded, the silence that fell upon the two was sort of awkward, made Izuku feel nervous. The reason for it was because it was a different conclusion? Shouldn’t this be straight forward? It seemed like it, right? He didn’t really question it at the time, he started to doubt himself for some weird reason. His eyebrows furrowed angrily, suddenly filled with it. Along with curiosity. He kept his feelings to himself.
As Izuku was about to speak up, Recovery girl did instead. “We started to suspect that you two have more mind swapped than body swapped.” Immediate silence in the room.
“What?” Izuku felt more confused, he was curious, frustrated for some reason, irritated, and a bit impatient. “What led you to believe that?” he questioned.
Recovery girl smiled, happily giving him a response sense it wasn’t super classified information. “A day ago Shouta Aizawa was here and was talking to the two of you. Katsuki and you had speaked of being lower on energy, but the moment you two were together it seemed that you both had more energy. Is that correct?” She questioned, confidently speaking still.
Izuku felt slightly dumbfounded, he was aware that the teachers and staff had been talking, but he wasn’t aware that Aizawa sensei was just yelling everything they were talking about. “Yes, that's correct.” He said after a few moments of hesitation.
Recovery girl nodded, her expression drew a bit more serious. “Well, Shouta had also taken note that during the escape of the kidnapping, Katsuki had woken up, saw you, and winced. We both know that Katsuki doesn’t tend to wince or be vulnerable openly at just about anything Izuku.” She let out a sigh, the situation was sort of eerie. Especially talking about Katsuki with Izuku, though Izuku looked like Katsuki. Making her slightly second guess herself a few times before.
Izuku's eyes widened at a bit of realization of what she had said to him. It clicked in his head as they talked. “Are you saying that we’ve not only switched physically but mentally and emotionally? That makes more sense!” He said, like he just cracked a puzzle. He sort of knew already but now that it was laid out and confirmed by someone else it felt more obvious.
Recovery girl gave a light chuckle. Her expression was serious again. “Yes, that’s what I’m saying, and what us staff have been talking about. Now, do you remember back to the day when you got kidnapped? Anything at all? Before it.” She spoke out, wanting to get information about their incident.
“Well not really. The day went by like usual. You should ask Kacchan. Maybe he’ll give you a different answer? All I know is that I woke up, went to school, went back to the dorms after, trained, did homework, ate and went to bed after a brief hangout with my friends.” Izuku explained to Recovery girl.
“Thank you. I will ask him as well. I’ll keep a mental note on that Izuku.” Recovery girl said, as she went to walk out, the nurse walked in, it was 10, so it was time for Izukus medicine, and Katsuki’s. Recovery girl made her way to Katsukis room. She didn’t know why but it felt like it was going to be a long day. Long day.
Katsuki was falling asleep, he had just finished taking his medicine. His eyelids drooped slightly as he looked down. He felt a bit disoriented, he hated that the medicine did that. Plus, it just tasted like shit anyway.
The door opened, Recovery girl walking through it and giving Katsuki a slight nod as a hello. Katsuki furrowed his eyebrows.
“What do you want? I just took the medicine.” Katsuki said, without venom in his voice like usual though.
Recovery girl raised her eyebrows, not hearing the angry tone in his voice like she usually recognized him with. “Well, I wanted to ask if you’d think back to before the kidnapping. Or the day before it. Did anything out of the ordinary or usual happen?” She questioned him.
Katsuki leaned back, he felt like he was going to pass out. He gave a light ‘Hmm.’ With slight irritation as he thought back. “Well, Shitty hair, Sparky, and Raccoon eyes had forced me to go out to town with them. I didn’t think much of it.” He said, before adding to it. “We went to a small store that had just opened. Usually I don’t really care for them and I just hang around or pay for whatever the idiots buy. But, for some, weird ass reason,”
“Language.” Recovery girl spoke, Katsuki rolling his eyes as he continued.
“Some unexpected reason. It drew me in. Felt familiar, so I walked around inside with them, looking at the small trinkets. I remember coming across a certain.. thing—“
“What was it?” Recovery girl questioned, curious for information.
Katsuki groaned. Feeling irritated. “I came across a fucking—“
“Katsuki.”
“I came across two rings! Jesus!” Katsuki huffed. “One.. had some sort of ruby engraved into it. Reminded me of something familiar. The other had an emerald or some sort of green gemstone engraved into it.” Katsuki explained. “I brought it to the cashier, who also turned out to be the damn owner. He was curious and gave a close inspection to it, wouldn’t tell me what the fuck was so intriguing about the rings. I held onto them until we left but came to the conclusion that I didn’t want to buy them.” Katsuki looked out the window. Glad that Recovery girl didn’t interrupt him again.
Recovery listened intently, wanting every piece of the story. “I wonder what made you so curious about the store, what made it feel familiar.” She said, but she also kind of knew why. Not questioning it further. “Well thank you Katsuki.” She smiled, turning on her feet to leave the room.
Katsuki barely remembered what happened before he passed out and fell asleep because of that damn medicine. He fucking hated it.
Izuku took the medicine when the nurse left, the first time he took it he felt drowsy and had passed out, which made him concerned about taking it again. But this time he wasn’t so tired. More awake actually. He wondered if they switched the medication without telling him. But what was the point in keeping him awake?
Was it for a specific reason? Did they need him awake? He wondered what Katsuki had told Recovery Girl. Wondering if there was a solution to their problem.
Was everything that happened caused by someone? Or something? Maybe it was their fault. Wait no, how would it be? Maybe they did something without knowing? Or a student could have done it! On accident of course. Unless it was on purpose then that's a whole different story.
So not only did Izuku suspect they were changing his medication and it made him feel more awake, it also made him overthink and feel a shit ton of anxiety. Had his heart been beating that loudly a few moments ago? Was he always trembling?
Izuku took a deep breath, calming him slightly as he tried to distract himself. The thought of Katsuki came to mind. Making him think back to when they first fought for their first hero classes. When Katsuki and Iida were the villains and him and Ochako were the Heroes.
Izuku always analyzed almost everything. But the thing he knew he couldn’t deny the most, was that he analyzed heroes, yes, but Katsuki the most.
He started to notice that Katsuki was growing a bit more mature than when that first training class happened. He guessed after going through a kidnapping at the training camp and another one through a reason they both didn’t know kinda did that.
Sometimes he wondered what went through Katsukis head. What he’s feeling and why he was feeling it. Izuku did his best to comfort Katsuki whenever they had a fight like back at ground beta. Izuku always liked to just use words. But Katsuki was different. Katsuki always used fighting as a way to avoid or to talk about his feelings and thoughts without being actually up front about them. That didn’t make Katsuki weak.
Izuku always hated it when Katsuki would, “rhetorically ask” if he ‘looked down’ on Katsuki. He had always admired him. Always. Elementary, Middle school, even then. He always had. He wondered why Katsuki thought he looked down on him all the time.
Izuku laughed at his thought process. Why was he thinking about Katsuki again? He wondered if it mattered.
He looked up at the ceiling.
Izuku would never admit it. Never. But he always saw Katsuki as the symbol of victory. Did it make much sense to why? Not exactly? Did Izuku care? Absolutely not. As much as he admired All Might, Katsuki was always in his life. Whether he was still following Katsuki or if Katsuki wanted him to stay.
Izuku furrowed his eyebrows as he started to get a bit more deep into thought. Did Katsuki seriously not care for him? Or did Katsuki only say that just because? It ticked him off. Why the hell would he do that? He felt irritated now.
Izuku was still a bit overcome with emotion but anger was the one he felt the most? That made him feel slightly anxious. All that time he spent chasing after him?.. It didn’t exactly matter, he’d still stick by his side. Izuku will always chase after Katsuki. Whether Katsuki wanted him too or not.
Thinking back. Katsuki always showed everything through actions, it was very rarely through words. Didn’t matter if Katsuki was irritated or mad at the moment, he always helped a friend with something, other than comforting and talking. He felt almost special? In a way. Fighting and screaming at each other was their way.
Izuku chuckled again, looking around the room. The moment his eyes left the ceiling everything felt a bit in slow motion, he didn’t like that, time didn’t really feel real? Izuku decided to stare at one thing, the blanket on the hospital bed. He grumbled, he felt nauseous.
It didn’t help that he was feeling anxious and nauseous. Though Izuku was pretty sure that the anxiety caused him to feel nauseous it still didn’t feel right. Nothing felt right these past few days, he looked up after forgetting somewhat and starting to watch the clock just, tick.
Izuku huffed and crossed his arms. Did they change Katsukis medicine too? Or just Izukus? And if it was only his, why? Did something come up? He hoped that nothing had happened. He wasn’t sure if he could mentally take more information about everything. Everything felt so overwhelming when these thoughts just flooded into his head. Why was he so focused on it anyway? sure he admired Katsuki, and he’d sacrifice himself for him, but it's just what friends did. Of course they’d look at each other like they knew what the other was thinking. The ping and squeezed feeling Izuku's heart felt when he saw Katsuki give a rare smile. He loved them.
Izuku had only ever caught a few that weren't sarcastic or used in a fight. But when he did catch them, his day turned around quickly. He’d never admit that either. Well why? He didn’t know. It's just what friends did. Why did it matter so much anyway, he wondered how his classmates felt about everything that had happened. He knew this was hard on them too.
Izuku started to fidget slightly as he thought about them. He just wanted a free day, where nothing happened, but they were heroes in training after all. He sighed. Izuku couldn’t help but feel a few things towards it. Irritation, anger, hopefulness, confusion.
Izuku started to contemplate trying to go back to sleep but he didn’t, he couldn’t help but wonder if Katsuki remembered the river, when Katsuki Fell off the wood crossway the two boys played with their three friends. When Katsuki didn’t take his hand. Izuku didn’t think about it a lot. But when he did..
Izuku got really emotional. Thinking back, it hurt a bit. But Izuku knew Katsuki. And Izuku was just fine with it.
