Lazy

Summary:

Prompt used - "lazy" from Jilymicrofics' July 2024 Prompt list

Work Text:

Lily knocked on the Seventh Year boys' dormitory door and waited for a response. Once she heard a muffled 'Who's that?', she pushed open the door just a little, peeking in through the gap.

"It's Lily, I'm here to fetch Sirius for Herbolo-" she stopped short at the sight in front of her.

"Oh, It's you," James Potter noticed from his spot on the dorm floor, where he laid spread eagled, shirt discarded, hair disheveled and glasses askew, "Come on in, Evans. Sirius is in the loo, he'll be out in a moment."

Lily blinked, her thoughts a jumble of 'Don't stare!' and 'What are you doing? Get out of it!' and 'Go in and get a nice long look'. "I will just wait outside," she said in a small voice, "Don't wanna bother you..."

"Don't be ridiculous," James lazily lifted up one arm - Oh, those arms - waving it towards one of the beds, "Have a seat."

Lily closed the door and carefully shuffled around him, reaching the nearest four-poster. She sat on a corner and pretended to look around the room for a while, occasionally stealing a look at him, as he laid motionless, with his eyes closed.

"What are you doing?" She blurted out, at last.

James opened his eyes, slowly pushed his glasses upright with the back of his hand - while Lily once again pretended to not see the way his bicep moved with the action - and looked at her quizzically. "What do you mean?"

She pointed at his general state of undress as a reply.

"Oh," James looked down at himself before lifting his head just high enough to catch her eye. "It's hot outside, Evans," he said with a grin. "The mattresses are heating up as well."

Sirius came out of the bathroom right at that moment, sparing Lily from a response. He raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Am I late?"

"Not yet," Lily said, clearing her throat, prying her eyes away from James who had resumed his position. She caught Sirius' eye as he walked around the dorm and looked away, her face burning up.

"He has been like this the entire afternoon," he addressed Lily. Collecting his bag, he walked back around James and said, "I'm taking your tie."

He made as to step on James' middle and James shouted an affronted 'Hey!' but made no move to get up. Sirius picked up a discarded Red and Gold tie from the floor and stood in front of the bathroom mirror, making a perfect Windsor.

"See you at dinner," he spoke to James. "Put on a shirt before you get down."

"No, I won't," James stated in a dry voice.

"Fine, I see no problem in that," Sirius said and turned to Lily with a mischievous grin. "Isn't that right, Lily?"

Lily sent a withering glare at his direction and stood up, clutching her satchel. "We're going to be late if you don't get your arse moving."
