unwanted confessions

Summary:

“Focus on your own relationship before commenting on mine, Alex.” Logan’s eyes go wide at Oscar’s comment, vowing to talk to him about his absolute audacity later.

“Oscar,” Logan scolds quietly, even though Alex would hear no matter what.

“Sorry mate. Just speaking the truth. I’ll talk to you two later.”

“Wait what? Oscar, what did you mean by that?” Alex asks desperately. Oscar shrugs.

“Fuck you, Oscar,” Logan cuts in.

“Oscar, wait–” Alex is cut off by Oscar hanging up the phone.

---

After a celebratory FaceTime gone (only slightly) wrong, Oscar pushes Logan into the deep end with his crush and teammate Alex, forcing a confession that Logan didn't want to make in the first place.

Notes:

For those who asked! sorry there's so much repeat dialogue from the first story, I didn't want to start in the middle of the story because it felt weird but I tried to focus on Logan's thoughts as much as possible in this version

enjoy!

Work Text:

Logan’s sitting in his room contemplating how to spend his night when his phone starts to ring. He sees his best friend, Oscar Piastri’s, contact info light up the screen. He doesn’t waste a second accepting the call, grateful his former teammate took the options away from himself or he’s certain he would’ve gone mad. “Oscarrr,” He greets the other boy, grateful to see his face again. “What’s up man?”

“Just wanted to tell you congrats!! Outperforming a Redbull and a Ferrari in a Williams is crazy, mate.” Logan’s smile is probably bigger than his face can physically hold. He knows ninth isn’t necessarily an accomplishment to most drivers, but it’s the best he’s done since joining Formula 1.

“Thanks, man. I’m so pumped you don’t even know.” And it’s true, even if he can’t help but think he’s not enough most of the time, right now his thoughts are absorbed only by his accomplishments from that day.

Logan hears a knock on Oscar’s side of the phone, followed by Oscar saying, “Oh, sorry, mate. I’ll be right back.” Logan waits for Oscar for a few seconds before hearing a knock on his own door. Hopping out of his bed to get it, he looks through the peephole to see who it is and feels his stomach flutter when he sees Alex on the other side.

Opening the door, Alex is the first to speak. “Logie Bear,” he shouts, mimicking the nickname Logan’s fans have given him. Logan can feel his cheeks turn red at the nickname, adoring the boy in front of him with his whole heart. “Lando may have gotten driver of the day, but you’re the driver of my heart.”

“Pipe down with the flirting, you just got here.” Logan rolls his eyes, but secretly he finds it to be the most adorable thing.

Alex acts offended, bringing a hand to his heart like he’s wounded him. “I would never, Logan. I am an honest man who speaks nothing but the truth.” Logan nearly passes out at the implication that he has a spot in the boy's heart, even though he might just be delusional.

“Oookay, Alex,” he responds, dragging out the first syllable,” Did you need something? I was on the phone with Oscar before you got here.” A hurt expression flashes across the older boy’s face and Logan is instantly overcome with guilt. His smile returns soon enough, but it doesn’t change the fact that Logan hurt Alex, even if it wasn’t his intention.

“What? Can I not celebrate my favorite teammate without some ulterior motive? I’m hurt you think so lowly of me, Loges.” The nickname falls out of his lips like the whisper of an angel making Logan feel ten times worse. He’s never been big on nicknames, but somehow Alex makes him feel safe instead of the usual discomfort, he actually likes it.

“Sorry,” he frowns, “I didn’t mean it like that. You can join us if you want. Oscar’s dealing with something right now but he’ll be back soon I think.” Logan watches Alex’s smile grow ever so slightly, and he starts to feel a bit better. “I’d love it if you did,” Logan finally adds, letting Alex know he truly does want him there. He’s just bad at showing it sometimes.

“Okay,” Alex smiles but doesn’t say much else, just grabs a seat in a chair near the bed. Logan sits back down on the bed, waiting for Oscar to return. It doesn’t take long– only a few moments, really– before Oscar’s picking his phone back up.

“Sorry, I’m back with a new friend,” Oscar says as his face comes back into view, and then the phone turns to show a happy-looking Lando.

“Logannn! Man of the hour. How ya feeling?” It took Logan a while to warm up to Lando. He always seemed a little too happy, it threw him off. But with how Oscar talks about the boy it’s almost impossible not to like him at least a little. At least he’s treating his Oscar well, that’s really all Logan can ask of him.

“Pretty fucking good Lando,” Logan answers honestly, then follows it up with, “I know it's not that impressive to get ninth, but it’s the best I’ve done all year.” Alex leans over and smacks him gently when he says this, scolding him for seeing this as anything other than amazing in the car they were given. “By the way, someone joined me too.” At this point, Alex has crawled over to sit next to Logan on the bed, leaving the chair behind.

“OMG,” Alex starts in his pretty British accent, “My favorite bromance is here.” Logan glances at the screen enough to see Oscar’s face turn bright red. He looks back at Alex and smiles at the boy’s skill in making almost anyone around him blush, knowing it’s been used on him plenty of times.

“Oh yeah, you’re one to talk.” Logan’s about ready to jump off a cliff at the implication, but Lando continues, “You and Mr. America here seem to be getting a little too close for comfort if you ask me. Right Osc?” Logan watches Oscar nod, even if it’s small, and can’t help but curse the boy out in his mind for this utter betrayal. Logan knows his face has gone crimson red, so he does his best to hide his face from Alex and the two boys on the other side of their phone call. He’s not so sure it worked as well as he had hoped.

In that moment, Logan regrets ever telling Oscar about his crush, no matter how scared he looked as he told Logan about Lando. “Alright. Point taken. I’ll let it go.” Alex admits defeat, before turning to Logan and quietly muttering, “For now.” Logan giggles a little at Alex’s confession.

“Alex,” Lando calls, and the other boy is hesitant to respond, Logan can tell, due to the victory Lando seemed to claim over him. He’s never liked coming in 2nd, but unfortunately had to get used to it when he joined Williams.

“What’s up?” He responds, skeptical of what Lando is about to say, considering his tendency to make out of pocket jokes with ease.

Lando manages to surprise him, though, when he says, “Do you know if your hotel room has any champagne?” Logan and Alex both seemed to have little faith in Lando, each totally expecting him to make another joke about their close relationship.

“I believe it does, good sir,” Alex responds, and Logan can’t help but sneak a glance at his dorky teammate.

Despite his struggles in Formula 1, a part of him is grateful for where he ended up. Due to his and Oscar’s history as well as Alex and Lando’s, the four of them get along quite well. Even though he and Lando aren’t so close, the dynamic of the four of them works well due to their intertwined pasts and current teammate situations, and Logan decides he really likes it.

“Well what do you say I grab mine, you grab yours, and we celebrate all four of us finishing in the points together for the first time ever.” Logan can’t help but think of his fans when Lando says this. He may not be the best or most popular driver, but it does mean that his supporters are incredibly loyal and he’s so grateful for that. Earlier, he’d been reading some of the comments they’ve been leaving under his post for the weekend (even though he really shouldn’t be), and the support they’ve given him makes him feel like his time in F1 was at least worth something, even if it won’t last long.

“I believe that is a cause worthy of celebration,” Alex chatters excitedly, acting like he and Lando are two nobles from the 1800’s. Then he turns to Logan and his expression becomes more serious, more sincere. “Be right back, Sarge,” he comments warmly, and Logan can’t help the butterflies taking flight in his stomach or the dusting of blush that makes its way to his face.

Logan smiles and nods but doesn’t respond, watching Alex retreat out of his hotel room. When the door closes, he can’t help but stare at the path the older boy just took, his thoughts overtaken by how unafraid he is to act a little dorky and how incredibly hot that is. “Holy shit they’re such dorks. I’m so whipped, Logan. It’s bad.” The confession pulls Logan from his thoughts, bringing him back to his FaceTime with his best friend.

He smiles, “I kind of can’t get enough of them though. They somehow manage to make each other even cuter.” He hears Oscar groan and watches him throw his head back. Knowing the Aussie, Logan makes the assumption it’s because he’s annoyed with how much he agrees with the statement.

“Did you see that Lando brought me my favorite chocolate after my podium? I don’t think I ever even told him that it was my favorite. What am I even supposed to do with that?” Logan and Oscar’s relationship has always been strictly platonic, but he can’t help but think it’s kinda cute when Oscar pouts like this, even if it’s about another boy’s cuteness. He’d never want to do anything with Oscar, especially while Alex is around, but he can admit that whoever he ends up with is one lucky son of a bitch.

He shakes the thought off, feeling bad about thinking something that could be considered so romantic about someone he’s never seen as anything but platonic. “Eat it, probably,” he quips sarcastically, watching Oscar smile.

The conversation slows after that which Logan is okay with. He thinks Oscar’s getting tired, considering he’s propped his phone up and seems to be close to drifting off. Logan’s mind drifts back to Alex (shocker!). He seriously can’t get over the boy’s sincerity when telling him he’d be right back. Anytime Alex shows him how kind he can be, it’s like Logan’s whole body erupts with adoration, loving every inch of the other boy. He doesn’t think he’d be able to fight it if he tried, not that he ever would.

He hears the click of his door unlocking, and watches Alex enter with a bottle of champagne and a smile. He mutes his speaker, but thinks he hears Lando enter Oscar’s room as well. “I don’t think we’ll get too far with the celebrations tonight,” he tells Alex. “Oscar seems pretty tired.” He turns the phone to show the sleepy Oscar to Alex.

“Aww. Who knew Oscar could be so cute?” Logan’s stomach twists with jealousy, but he does his best to push it down under the reasoning that Alex isn’t his, he can say whatever he wants about whoever he wants and Logan wouldn’t get a say. He’s been doing his best to accept this.

Alex takes his seat next to Logan on the bed, setting the champagne bottle in his lab as he sits with his legs crossed. Logan rests his head on Alex’s shoulder, watching Lando walk into view on the phone. He’s starting to feel pretty tired as well. The line stays silent as Alex and Logan watch Lando while he appreciates the tired boy in front of him. Neither of them say it, but they both find Lando’s expressions cute, and Logan thinks Oscar’s feelings may be reciprocated after all.

Finally, Oscar breaks the silence. “I don’t know, Logan,” he starts, his voice tired and lazy. Logan realizes quickly that Oscar thinks they’re still alone, and immediately wishes he had already unmuted his phone so he could warn the boy. “I swear,” he continues, “it’s getting harder and harder not to kiss him. He’s so perfect, y’know.”

“Who?” Logan sees Oscar jump and knows he was right in his assumption. Retreating his hand, he decides it’s best to stay muted at this point.

“God damn it, Lando,” He hears Oscar say, “Warn a guy next time.”

“I don’t think he’s too tired anymore,” Alex whispers, leaning a little closer to Logan so their shoulders bump. Logan stifles a laugh, covering his mouth with his hand to avoid the other two boys from seeing it. Not that they’re paying him much attention anyway.

“Sorry,” Lando frowns, “I assumed you had heard me come in. Alex is back too, by the way.” Oscar glances at the camera as Logan finally unmutes them.

Alex blurts out a cheery ‘hi!’ but Oscar doesn’t acknowledge it.

Instead, he focuses back on Lando when he starts talking again. “Sooo. Who is it?” Logan knows Oscar is panicking so he does his best to send good vibes through the phone, he doesn’t think it works too well.

“Who’s what?” Logan refrains from laughing at Oscar’s poor attempt at acting oblivious, but Alex lets a quiet giggle out before slapping a hand to his mouth. Logan keeps his eyes trained anywhere but Alex, knowing the two boys would erupt with laughter if they made anything close to eye contact.

“The guy you want to kiss. I need to know now. Spill.”

“No one. I don’t know what you’re talking about, Lan.” Logan struggles even harder to hold his laugh back at Oscar’s second attempt at feigning obliviousness, but Alex is straight up giggling into his hand. It’s a classic Oscar move, really. To try and pretend nothing happened until Lando either gives up or is gaslit into believing Oscar’s tale.

Unfortunately for Oscar, Lando isn’t that gullible. “Oscarrrr,” Lando whines, “How come Logan gets to know but I don’t? Who is this so-called perfect guy that you want to kiss so badly. I need to make sure he’s worthy of my Osc.” Even Logan is taken aback by Lando’s straightforwardness. He’s starting to believe his theory that Oscar’s feelings are reciprocated might actually be true.

“Lando,” Oscar warns, and the lighthearted mood starts to shift.

“Oscar,” Lando counters. The two boys stare at each other, a million words being exchanged in utter silence. Logan glances at Alex to see if he’s as uncomfortable as Logan, and Alex’s eyes meet his.

“I feel like we’re interrupting something,” He whispers, and Logan knows exactly what he means.

“Right?” He whispers back, wholeheartedly agreeing with Alex’s statement.

The intimidation contest continues on the other side with Logan and Alex still feeling incredibly uncomfortable. Finally, Lando breaks the silence. “Fuck,” He spits out, clearly upset. “Fine, Osc. You win. Keep your secrets.” Logan can’t help but feel bad for him. Obviously he knows why Oscar won’t spill, but Lando doesn’t. Logan thinks he’s the kind of guy that feels every emotion too deeply and struggles to differentiate between real betrayal and temporary hurt. He’s the kind of guy who wears his heart on his sleeve, especially around people he cares for, as Logan suspects he feels deeply with Oscar, and he gets hurt easily.

“Lando,” he hears Oscar say, and the guilt is so evident in his voice that even Logan starts to feel a smidge of it. “Lando, wait. I’m sorry.”

Lando’s reply is distant, but Logan can still hear it faintly. “No, it’s fine, Oscar. I’ll see you later. Goodnight.” Logan and Alex glance at each other again, feeling awkwardly out of place witnessing their argument.

“Fuck,” Oscar whispers.

Logan takes a deep breath. “Oscar, you need to tell him. Keeping this from him is hurting him and it’s hurting you even more.” Oscar knows Logan is right and Logan knows that Oscar knows this, but Logan also knows that Oscar’s had terrible anxiety since he was a kid. He can tell by Oscar’s body language that this is affecting him more than he wants to let on.

“Right back at ya,” He deflects, but Logan can see right through it. He’s also not too keen on Oscar’s willingness to bring his feelings up right in front of the focus of them, but he doesn’t push too hard knowing Oscar’s upset.

“Oscar,” He warns, letting the boy know he’s gone just a little too far but also pushing him into listening to Logan.

“Yeah. Yeah, I know. I’m sorry. I’ll tell him soon. I promise.” Logan’s not sure he believes him, but for Oscar’s sake he chooses to.

Alex, with his oh-so unfortunate timing, cuts in. “Um, I don’t want to impose, but I’m like, really lost.” Logan doesn’t respond, but the look he gives him is enough of a warning for Alex to shut up.

“Don’t worry about it, Alex. I’ll fix this, Logan, I promise.” Logan can’t help but feel bad for pushing, but he knows it’s for Oscar’s own good. He hopes he’ll understand and thank him later. “I’m sorry for ruining the celebration, I really didn’t mean for any of this to happen. Lando can just be so pushy at times and it’s so hard to put your foot down with him or he’ll get upset.”

“Well the boy does like to have his way,” Alex, again with the poor timing, chirps which makes Logan slap his shoulder. You’d think he’d have learned to read the room by now but apparently not.

“Alex, not the time.” Logan feels bad for scolding him, but the Oscar’s essentially gone through a breakup (dramatic, but not necessarily wrong), Logan’s pretty sure he doesn’t need comedic relief but rather comfort.

“Oh. Sorry.” Alex smiles apologetically, not realizing his words were out of place. Logan thinks it’s the most precious thing. “But seriously, Oscar. Lando gets pissy like this all the time when he doesn’t get his way. You’d think he’s an only child. But he does bounce back quickly. He acts out of emotion and I think to him it feels like a betrayal if you keep anything from him, especially if you’re important to him, but you are allowed to have secrets, Oscar. Don’t let him push you around just ‘cause he’s cute.” Logan can’t help but smile at his switch up to the comforting supportive friend. It just took him a minute to get there, that’s all.

“Yeah. Thanks, Alex. And you too, Logan. I should probably figure out how to fix this with him, huh? Sorry to leave you two celebrating today alone. I really am proud of you, Logan. We should definitely get together soon to celebrate it for real.” Logan knows Oscar’s rambling, but he finds it endearing in a way. It shows he cares.

“It’s all good. Go get your man.” Logan’s in disbelief that Alex just said that to Oscar, so he slaps him. “What?” Alex asks, genuinely confused about what he did wrong until it dawns on him. “Wait, is that what’s been going on? I knew there was something between you two. Lando kept telling me to shut the hell up but I knew it,” He says triumphantly.

“Focus on your own relationship before commenting on mine, Alex.” Logan’s eyes go wide at Oscar’s comment, vowing to talk to him about his absolute audacity later.

“Oscar!” He scolds. But it’s too late and the damage is done, Alex already heard him.

“Sorry mate,” Oscar apologizes, but it’s weak. “Just speaking the truth. I’ll talk to you two later.”

Alex, being the cute and confused guy that he is, rushes to grab Logan’s phone so he can ask Oscar what he meant, to which Oscar just shrugs. Logan curses him out for potentially exposing him. “Oscar, wait. What did you mean?” Alex tries to get an answer, but Oscar hangs up before he finishes his sentence. So instead, he turns to Logan for answers. “Logan…”

“So that was a lovely call. I think I’m ready for bed now, aren’t you? I’ll see you in the morning.” Logan hops out of his bed and gestures to the door, desperately trying to pull himself out of the situation his ‘best friend’ shoved him into.

“Logan,” Alex warns again.

“So, how about that weather? Are you excited for the British grand prix next weekend? Your home race!” Logan attempts to change the subject again, but Alex sees right through it.

“Logan, stop. Calm down. I just want an explanation.” Logan doesn’t understand how Alex went from completely oblivious 10 minutes ago to up Logan’s ass. It doesn’t make sense to him.

“I don’t know,” He lies, “I’m not in his mind, Alex. It was probably totally innocent.” He’s desperate for Alex to believe him, to let it go and never know about Logan’s feelings.

“Really? Because you seem to be acting pretty cagey for someone who ‘doesn’t know.’”

“Jesus christ. How did you go from being totally clueless to psychoanalyzing every action I make? I. Don’t. Know.” Logan’s doing everything he can to deflect, to get Alex to let it go, but the hurt expression that passes over the boy’s face is almost enough to make him regret it.

“For fuck’s sake, Logan. That’s not fair. I–” He cuts himself off, groaning at himself (presumably) and takes a deep breath. “I’ll be right back. And I swear if you try to run away I will hunt you down. Got it?” Logan swallows, finding Alex’s demands incredibly hot, and nods slowly. Alex exits the room, leaving Logan alone to calm down. He takes a seat at the edge of the bed and sighs. They’re not usually ones to get into an argument, so they tend to go at each other pretty harshly when they do.

Logan tries to figure out what he could possibly say to Alex to get out of this position, but he can’t seem to come up with anything safer than a straight up confession. Jumping out of the window was up there for sure, but he decided against it because he’d miss Alex’s face too much.

He attempts to find any combination of words that’ll make Alex least likely to punch him if this all goes horribly south, but everything comes out sounding the same in his head, like he’s desperate or obsessed. He knows he has to tell him, but he’s really fucking scared he’ll lose one of his closest friends and if that happens Oscar will essentially be his only Formula 1 friend.

He tries one of the breathing techniques Oscar told him about to calm down. It works to an extent, but when he hears the door open he’s back to where he started. He looks up from his spot on the bed to see Alex carrying two paper cones in his hands. “I saw one of those fancy water dispensers when I was walking in. I thought some flavored water and time would help us both cool down a bit. Yours is lime ‘cause I remember you telling me you like it.”

Logan takes the water and smiles, thanking him as he has a sip. Alex sits next to Logan again, enjoying his water in silence as they each think about the events of the night. Logan feels bad that things got so heated so quickly, he blames himself for being so unable to communicate his emotions with almost anyone.

“So, I, uh, wanted to apologize,” Alex starts. “I’ve always had some minor jealousy problems when it comes to friends and I guess it seemed like Oscar knew something about us that I didn’t. I got mad ‘cause it felt like I was out of the know and he didn’t deserve that more than me, I guess. So I’m sorry.” Logan takes the last sip of his drink and starts folding the cup in his hand anxiously.

“Yeah, I’m sorry too.” Logan kicks himself for how insincere it sounds. He bites his lip, convincing himself that what he’s about to say won’t be a terrible idea. “I did know what Oscar meant, or still do, I guess. Um, I’m gay,” He confesses, refusing to look at Alex’s face knowing it’ll have all his thoughts splayed out for Logan to see, and he’s not sure he’d be able to handle that. “Oscar knows because of his thing for Lando. I knew he wouldn’t be weird about it so it made it less scary.”

“Okay, but I don’t understand what this has to do with me.” Logan takes a deep breath, he was hoping Alex would let it go at that.

“Yeah, that’s the other thing. So the reason I realized I’m gay is kinda, um, you, one could say.” For the first time, Logan gains the courage to glance at Alex’s face, who just looks confused. “Um, so, you were my gay awakening, basically. Because I’ve sort of been, uh, crushing on you, for a little bit I guess.” Alex makes a noise of realization and Logan wills himself to finally shut up. Unfortunately, he fails. “I think maybe he’s heard some of the, uh, flirtatious jokes you’ve made and made the assumption you felt the same way. I can tell him he was wrong and to back off, though. I didn’t realize he had thought that until tonight or I would’ve earlier.”

Logan glances at Alex’s face again, trying his best to gauge his reaction, but the boy looks like the physical embodiment of the throbber in a computer loading screen. Ironically, it makes Logan’s heart throb painfully, already prepared for the worst-case scenario. To his surprise, when Alex speaks up it isn't a blunt and angry rejection. “What if he was right, though?”

It’s Logan’s turn to be confused, not comprehending the words that just came out of Alex’s mouth. “Wait, what?”

“I mean, I’ve never really thought of it like that, but looking back my feelings for you could be seen as romantic. I feel differently for you than I have with my relationships in the past, but it's also different to how I feel for friends. Lando, for example.” He’s kicking his feet back and forth as he talks, sitting much farther back on the bed than Logan so his feet are dangling. “I don’t know, I’ve never really thought I could be anything but straight since I’ve had serious relationships in the past but you kinda make me feel differently. Like bubbly and stuff, y’know?”

Logan swallows but nods. He’s surprised by the outcome of this conversation, but pleasantly (obviously). He’s just too surprised to properly express anything past confused gawking.

“Sorry, I know it probably sounds like I’m contradicting myself a bit. This is just… a lot, I guess, to think through and everything. But I genuinely think he was right, I’m just trying to be sure , y’know?” Alex takes a shaky breath in and runs his hand through his hair, Logan is enthralled by how good he manages to look while dealing with something like this. “I mean, when I had girlfriends in the past I got the typical butterflies and stuff, but with you it’s like this overwhelming feeling of– calmness? No, I don’t know. Like my body is overtaken by a comforting serenity or something. Like I don’t really have to worry about anything, anymore, and I could never place my finger on it ‘til now. Sorry, I’m rambling now. I’ve never really been super in touch with my feelings so this is new to me.”

Logan nods. He can’t believe Alex feels that way about him . It’s slightly terrifying hearing someone talk about him like that, like he’s important enough for the world to stop if he needs it, like Alex would make the world stop if he needed it, and truthfully he would do the same for Alex. “Sorry, I’m just… processing. I always assumed telling you would come with a cold glass of rejection, so this is unexpected, I guess.”

“I hope you know I’d never judge you for being gay. Whether this was all happening or not, it wouldn’t change that.” Alex grabs Logan’s hand, rubbing soft circles in the space beneath his thumb.

“Yeah, I know. Thanks, Alex.” He rests his head on Alex’s shoulder, unable to think of anything past his hand in Alex’s and the gentle touch. It’s a small gesture, but it shows Logan that nothing’s changing between them, at least not negatively. Logan appreciates it. “So what does this mean, then?”

Alex sighs, confused by how his thoughts are somehow both racing and calm at the same time. The Logan Effect , he calls it. “I don’t know, Loges. I don’t even really know what this means for me. It may take me some time, still.”

“That’s okay. I can wait for as long as you need me.” Logan believes this, he knows he would wait no matter what. He’d wait for as long as the Earth needs the sun and until he could count every grain of sand by hand. He’d wait like a dog would wait for his owner, whether he was coming back or not. Because truthfully, Logan needs Alex. He needs him like the Earth needs the sun or a dog needs his owner, so he’ll wait. And whatever Alex decides, he’ll do everything possible to keep him by his side.

And that’s exactly what he does. He waits while Alex figures himself out over the next few weeks, settling for stolen glances and lingering touches. Neither boy acknowledges the shift in their relationship, but they both feel it. Logan dreads the day when Alex finally comes to him, knowing it could be the end of their friendship, but is also too anxious for their games to continue much longer.

So, when Alex comes to him exactly 3 weeks and 6 days later after a tough qualifying, Logan is somewhat relieved. He leads Alex into his driver’s room and begins taking some of the hot layers off that they’re required to wear. When he’s a little cooler, he takes a seat on the lumpy couch while Alex hops onto a table and kicks his feet a little. “Um, so I should probably apologize for stringing you along for so long, I just kinda wanted to be, like, really sure so I didn’t end up hurting you or anything.”

“It’s alright. You know I meant it when I told you I’d wait.” Logan’s response is simple, but it brings a smile to Alex’s face. He’s glad to have someone in his corner, no matter what their outcome is.

“Okay, well I think I’m bisexual, so I guess Oscar clocked me pretty spot on. I shouldn’t be surprised, though, he seems like a noticer.” He shakes his head at his rambling. “Sorry, I’m getting side tracked. Anyways, I’ve been thinking a lot about our relationship and I’ve noticed I almost certainly have had feelings for you since, like, our first race together, probably. And I was hoping, if you’ll still take me, that we could maybe explore our relationship at a deeper level, if you’d like. But I don’t want to pressure you or anything, so if things have changed for you then I understand.”

Logan smiles at his anxious rambling. He can’t help but find it cute how he’s being so thoughtful while essentially laying himself out for Logan to see. He knows how hard it is to confess something like this, and the fact that Alex is still thinking about his feelings makes his heart swell. “Of course I’ll still take you. I really did mean it when I said I’d wait for as long as you need me. I still do, even if you don’t believe it.”

A smile stretches across Alex’s face and Logan can’t help but join. His sun , he decides. He’ll settle for being the Earth, the needy, ever-changing, complicated Earth as long as Alex stays his sun. The one thing the Earth needs to keep spinning, to keep its inhabitants sane and healthy. In this case, Logan’s heart is the people of Earth, needing Alex like people need light and plants need water. It’s become a given in his reality. “Can I kiss you?”

Logan doesn’t respond, but pushes his ass off the couch and is kissing Alex without a care in the world. He’s gentle at first, passionate, sending a million messages at once without a single word spoken. It’s cautious and reckless, timid but so loud, awkward yet more comfortable than anything either has felt before. The kiss itself is an oxymoron, but the two boys together are everything the world has to offer and more.

“So…” Logan begins after pulling away from the kiss to catch his breath. “Boyfriends?”

Alex can’t stop the laugh from bubbling out, leaning forward to rest his head on Logan’s shoulders and appreciating the boy’s comedic timing. “Boyfriends,” He confirms, looking into the younger boy’s eyes.
