Where It All Began

Chapter Text

Hello everybody I hope you are enjoying the story so far. This is the final chapter until we start the game play to the story. I hope you enjoy the story while it lasts.

Zeke was sitting across from Rex and Nia with his hands away from his blade which was across his back. Although Rex and Nia had their hands close to their blades just in case they had to defend themselves.

"Why should we trust you?" Rex said warily, "Because you just admitted that if it were different circumstances then you would've arrested Nia."

"That's true but you would probably fight me to defend her would you not?" Zeke said as he put his hand to his chin.

"You're dang right I would," Rex responded a little protective of Nia. "Because she is my family and I've gotten to know the kind of person that she is and I don't think she is dangerous to the world like you said three years ago."

"It's okay Rex," Nia said as she put a hand on his shoulder. "You don't really need to defend me because I have done some terrible things in my past that I can't change but you push me to be a better person and I really appreciate it."

"So I guess she hasn't told you about her past." Zeke said.

"I don't really care about her past," Rex said. "I only care about the kind of person she is now."

Nia looked down smiling at how Rex is being with her when the voice in her head started speaking to her. He says that now but when he finds out he will be repulsed at the mere thought of what you did to someone you considered a sister. He will then turn you in then you'd probably be put in a cell for the rest of your life.

Rex put a hand on Nia's shoulder and when she looked she saw him smiling at her all kindly. "It's going to be okay Nia."

"I know Rex," Nia said. "But I'm not really comfortable in telling you about my past because I'm afraid."

"That's alright," Rex said as they continued to make Zeke wait to speak. "There are things that people don't really want to talk about, right."

"Yeah, I guess you're right." Nia said until she realized that they were making Zeke wait. "I'm sorry for keeping you waiting."

"Nah, it's fine," Pandoria said, "You are going through some things and Rex is a good person to be there for you until you really feel comfortable."

"Besides the Praetorium doesn't really want to arrest you anymore because of all the people that you helped here in Argentum besides we told them about our last encounter and the Praetor decided on letting you roam free because of you being with Rex although you are probably going to be monitored."

"Do you really have a job for us or did you just say that in order to tell us that?" Nia asked.

"No I really don't have a job for you." Zeke said as he rubbed the back of his head, "I'm sorry that I took away from your time and in order to pay you back I will let you in on a little secret."

Nia looked at Rex a little skeptically, "Well Rex what do you say?"

"I think that we should hear him out." Rex said, "Perun what do you think."

"I'm not sure," Perun said. "I'm sorry that wasn't the answer you were expecting."

"Don't worry about it," Rex said to his blade, "What about you Dromarch?"

"I think that it really wouldn't hurt if we heard them out."

"Well, there you have it," Nia said. "What do you have to say to us?"

"Let's just say that you aren't really a priority right now because there is a blade terrorist organization that goes by the name of Torna." Zeke said, "Have you heard about them?"

"No we haven't," Rex said. "What do you need us to do?"

"Well, we got inside information that they mainly consist of blade that are nothing but flesh-eaters." Zeke said which made Rex look at him confused.

"Flesh-eater?" Rex asked.

"They are blades who try out-do nature by consuming human flesh in order to live after their driver dies."

"That sounds terrible," Perun said as she looked at Nia who was looking down at the ground hoping they wouldn't tell Rex that she was a flesh-eater because she wasn't ready for that.

"Yeah, but if you find out anything please let the Praetorium know because we are trying to apprehend them at the moment." Zeke said as he got up and left them sitting there. When Nia looked at Rex and started thinking again about telling him but had second thoughts.

"Nia are you ready?" Rex asked, "Let's do some salvaging."

"Alright, although I was kind of hoping that we would get an official salvaging job because that means more money." Nia said, "But little money is better than no money at all."

"That's true," Dormarch said when she looked to Nia. "It looks like we don't have to worry about the praetorium anymore."

"For now at least," Perun added. "We still have to be wary because we never know how people would respond to those kinds of things."

"Yeah, we should always be aware." Rex said, "Which I will always will because I consider Nia family."

"Thanks, Rex"

"It's no problem really," Rex said. "Yeah let's go do some more salvaging."

"Wait, before you go what kind of job did that guy give you." Spraine asked as he walked in front of them.

"He actually didn't have any job for us he was actually doing an investigation on a terrorist organization." Dromarch said, "Although we didn't hear anything about it so he just left."

"Really that's all he wanted," Spraine said a little bit perturbed that Zeke used him by saying that he wanted to hire some salvagers. "Why did he lie about that?"

"I'm not sure, would you have brought him to us otherwise." Rex asked Spraine.

"I probably wouldn't," Spraine said as he rubbed the back of his head. "Because I'm kind of over protective of you two since you two are still practically children in age but you two are very hard workers compared to some of the people that work here in the Argentum Trade Guild."

"Thanks for that," Nia said. "We try our best to out do other people that way we could get more jobs in order to make more money than the other salvagers because since we are still young people wouldn't be willing to deal with us."

"That is right," Perun added. "Not only that but since they are drivers they have a more diversity of jobs that can be taken on."

"You're right about that," Spraine said in agreement. "Besides it's not often that you see kids that are drivers and very good ones at that."

Later that Night

Rex and Nia were settling down for the night on Gramps' back they decided to save some money to last them until they get a big salvaging job. Which hopefully will come sooner or later.

"Hey Nia," Rex said as he turned on his side to face her. "Are you glad that the Praetorium isn't after you anymore?"

"Yeah, I am but there are probably some people that won't like the idea of someone like me still running around." Nia said, "I mean I've done terrible things but I'm happy that you accept me without really knowing about what I am."

"Like I said before, I want to know more about this you and not the you that you were," Rex said. "Besides I don't really want to push you into telling me because I want you to feel comfortable in telling me so, yeah."

"Thank you Rex," Nia said smiling. "Maybe one of these days I will tell you."

"There's no need for that." Rex said as he rolled over and fell asleep for the night. I wonder what tomorrow will bring.
