Lizzy rushed into her house and closed the door behind her in a hurry. She sighed after having a long day at school, her social battery completely drained. Everyday, it made her increasingly more stressed. So much was going on and there was always a new problem or obstacle.
She crashed to the floor in a panic and brought out her phone. When she was stressed she liked to distract herself with her phone, it being one of the few things that could actually calm her down. She scrolled through her photos, looking at pictures of Doll, Uzi and her. The three had gotten together a few months prior to the solver incident at camp. Even just thinking of it made Lizzy’s anxiety set in deeper. She pushed her phone away and shielded her face with her arms.
No one knew she was afraid of Uzi in her solver form. Just the fleshy wings, disturbingly sentient and breathing tail, and the big purple symbol covering her visor. To think she could've died that night if V wasn’t there, was a thought that kept her awake. She loved her girlfriend, but she didn’t know anything, she didn’t know about her fear, her true feelings, and especially not what she did in her free time. Not even Doll knew, it hurt keeping something so big from them.
Her breathing slowed as she reached for the phone again. She got up and looked round the house whimpering, making sure no one was there. Of course she knew no one was there, but she was paranoid. Doll and Uzi normally did a few things before coming over to the house to be with her. Her whimpers became more sad and needy sounding, echoing through the house as she walked into her bedroom. She flung the closet door open and frantically looked around for a box. She began to push other boxes, clothes and items out of the way to outside the closet.
Eventually, a wave of relief washed over her as she finally found the box that was labeled, “Lizzy’s Random Stuff.” She opened the sides of the box and gasped with joy. She squealed as she picked up a small pink blanket with different shades of purple hearts sewn in. Under it was a cat plushie, that too Lizzy picked up and kissed on the forehead. It was a light tan and had white paws, belly, tail tip, and muzzle.
She sat on the floor, tightly gripping the blanket and kissing the cat repeatedly. “Hi Mr. Muffin,” she smiled. “Did ya miss me?” She asked the cat in a more high pitched voice than usual. She pretended it was real and it nuzzled her arm, answering her previous question.
“I’m rewey glad you did,” Lizzy said excitedly, giving it a hug. She wrapped the blanket around herself and stood up with shaky legs and tiredly waddled over to the big bed. She sat down and sniffed her blanket. Her worries melted away the longer she sat there. Lizzy savored the smell, it was just a blanket that only she used for these times.
Whenever she was stressed and needed to just calm down. When she just wished she could go back to simpler times. It could replicate it for her.
She stopped smelling it and put the bed blanket over her head. She got out her phone and started to scroll mindlessly. Lizzy sighed and curled up in a ball, finally at peace after the day.
After about an hour of being on her phone, she started to fall asleep. Lizzy gripped Mr. Muffin tighter and drifted off into sleep mode under the warm covers.
But her peace was quickly interrupted when Lizzy heard the front door open. Her sensors woke her up automatically in a hurry. “We’re hommmeeeee!” Uzi announced from the living room. Lizzy’s heart raced as she shoved her items farther away from her and got from under the blanket. She fixed up her clothes and hair to look presentable and grabbed her phone to act like everything was fine and dandy. Even though her biggest secret was just seconds away from being revealed. And the fact that over half of the closet had things thrown and pushed out of the way.
Doll silently walked into the room first, glancing at Lizzy but then turned to the mess before her. Lizzy kept her cool despite her racing as she waved to her girlfriend. Shortly after, Uzi came into the room and stepped over one of her boxes full of gun parts.
“What’s with the mess?” She asked her, sounding more aggressive than she meant it to.
Lizzy awkwardly chuckled, “I was just looking for something, that’s all.” Lizzy pulled the blanket closer to her, protecting her items.
Uzi looked at Doll with a raised eyebrow, but proceeded with what she was doing. Doll walked over to the left side of the bed and put her hand on Lizzy’s cheek. Lizzy closed her eyes and leaned into her gentle touch. “Rest, you look tired,” she smiled. “We’ll clean up.” Doll gave her a kiss on the forehead and started helping Uzi put everything back in the closet.
Uzi’s tail popped out to help clean, which made Lizzy jump a bit. Uzi turned to her as she pulled her phone out. They both awkwardly stared at each other for a moment, Uzi could sense something was off, and that worried them both greatly for completely different reasons.
“Hey Liz? You okay?” She said, worriedly approaching her.
Lizzy hesitated to speak as her breath became heavy. “Uhh- yeah!! Clean- up?” She said, her voice almost cracking from fear.
Uzi squinted and shrugged, “Okay.” She then had her tail tuck Lizzy in bed, encouraging her to go to sleep.
She yelped and slapped it away without thought. “No!” She yelled, her eyes shut tight. Uzi flinched, because technically the tail was a part of her body. Something she could never change about herself.
“Oh, sorry!” Lizzy said and picked up her phone again. She knew that they definitely knew something was up. She was going to get judged. Lizzy tried shaking away the thought, but when she looked back up, all she could see in their eyes was concern.
They didn’t know if she was okay or not.
Both their eyes were hollowed as the room fell dead silent. Lizzy’s heart was pounding as Doll came forward and got on the bed, slowly scooting closer. Her gaze followed Doll as she put one hand on Lizzy’s knee. Her other unoccupied hand went to take her phone. Lizzy didn’t even bother to put up a fight with her like usual if she took her phone. It easily slipped out of her grasp and now was in Doll’s hand.
Uzi put away her tail, calming Lizzy down a bit. She walked to Lizzy's side of the bed and picked her up effortlessly. She was short, but she sure was strong. She set her down in the middle of the bed in between her and Doll.
“You want to tell us what’s going on?” Doll asked softly, not wanting to seem like she was getting interrogated.
Lizzy unresponsively shook her head and once again it felt like she couldn’t breathe. She knew she shouldn’t be scared, they were her girlfriends.
But she knew they wouldn’t be disrespectful about her secret.
Right?
“Can we ask you yes or no questions? Will that be more comfortable for you?” Uzi said and cupped her shame and fear-filled face in her hands. She glanced up at her quickly and nodded.
“Are you afraid of my tail?” Uzi said, clearing her throat. Lizzy nodded and hesitantly peeked under the blanket, where she saw Mr. Muffin sitting on his side. Doll peeked under the blanket with her, making her tense up a bit.
She grabbed him from under and pulled him out. “S-Solver…” she squeaked out. “…Scary.” She hugged the stuffed cat tightly and smiled a bit.
“This is Mr. Muffin,” she said to them both. Doll smiled and waved to it.
“Do you and Mr. Muffin need a hug?” Doll laughed quietly. Uzi played along as Lizzy nodded. They scooted towards her and pulled her and Mr. Muffin in for a hug.
“I may be scary…” Uzi cried. “But I will never, ever hurt you.” She and Doll rubbed her back, trying to comfort her.
“If you are ever afraid, tell us,” Doll whispered. “We’ll always be here for you. No matter what you’re feeling.”
“Because we love you,” Uzi added.
Lizzy sniffed sadly, about to cry from all of her overwhelming emotions. “Thank you,” she whispered and buried her face in Doll’s shoulder.
They wrapped their arms around her and laid her down. Lizzy was finally calming down, she hadn’t noticed that she was actually super warm due to the stress of getting caught. But Doll and Uzi were cold, perfect to balance each other’s body temperatures.
Uzi kissed her on the lips and looked into her beautiful pink eyes. “Whenever you’re with us, you’re safe.” She whispered and touched their foreheads together.
“Don’t worry,” Doll said. She held Lizzy’s hand in hers and caressed the back of it with her thumb. Lizzy looked over to her with an awkward and sad smile, understanding they love her dearly.
She couldn’t believe how lucky she was to have two amazing girlfriends that loved and cared for her no matter what.
“I-I,” she stuttered. “Love you too.”
