Work Text:
Hitoshi was… a coward.
He didn’t want to admit it to himself, but he was scared. In the past month, Tenya had tried a total of three times to get him alone, and the new 2-A recruit was doing his damndest to not take part in that conversation. Sure, it was unfair to Tenya.
But Hitoshi was scared, and he didn’t want to hear Tenya’s response to his confession a literal month ago.
At some point, he should have been given a medal. No one had dodged the class representative for so long, and even Denki was asking him for pointers. Hitoshi couldn’t help but hide his face in his hands and groan one Friday after class.
He had to get his shit together! What was gonna happen when Tenya finally got the chance to get him alone?! At that point, any “yes” would have turned into a firm “no”, even from Hitoshi himself—
“Shinsou?”
Oh, god.
Hitoshi didn’t want to uncover his face. He’d confessed suddenly, one weeknight where it was just him and Tenya in the study room, and had raced out right after leaving his class rep a shocked, wide-eyed statue across the table from where he’d been sitting. And Tenya… he hadn’t deserved that.
But how could someone so intelligent and forth-right like someone like Hitoshi?
It wasn’t that he wasn’t attractive or interesting or intelligent in his own right! It was just… his quirk turned a lot of people away from him. Even his own classmates from the general course hadn’t been very keen on getting to know him due to it. A single question and he could have them doing anything he wanted.
But he wasn’t like that!
Hitoshi wasn’t a villain, and he just wanted to be soft and cradled and praised like everyone else! So when he’d seen Tenya, tall, diligent, caring Tenya that didn’t treat him any different and checked all of his boxes, well…
It was almost a no-brainer.
“Shinsou, I’d like to speak with you for a moment, if you have time.”
Hitoshi heard his heart hammering in his chest and jumping to lodge in his throat. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to hear what Tenya had to say, he was just… a little worried about what Tenya would say.
But, as the larger boy made his way to Hitoshi’s desk, he didn’t have anywhere to go anymore. Their eyes met, frightened indigo accidentally finding sharp crimson. Tenya stopped right next to Hitoshi’s desk, standing there with his bag on his shoulder as he looked down into those worried eyes.
And then he was getting closer—closer!? —all of a sudden. Hitoshi couldn’t move away, couldn’t find it in himself to do so—
And before he knew it, their lips were joined in the softest, lightest kiss that he could imagine.
When Tenya pulled away, Hitoshi was staring up at him in shock.
“I—I… But my… quirk…” he stammered, blinking repeatedly. Tenya arched a brow, as though asking a silent question.
“I don’t see how your quirk factors in to me returning your feelings. But, I wanted to let you know that, and ask if you’d like to spend the weekend together,” Tenya responded.
His quirk… hadn’t even mattered.
Hitoshi blinked up at the taller boy, searching those bright eyes for a sign of a lie. And when he didn’t find one, he felt his face darkening with a light blush as he smiled up at Tenya.
“Like, a date?”
Tenya smiled as well just then. And a blush, so soft and pink and gorgeous darkened the bridge of his nose and the apples of his cheeks before he spoke.
“Only if you’d have me.”
