Chapter 2
The following morning Izuku felt a lot more present mentally, and after a brief shower he felt refreshed as well. Glad to be out of the hospital, even if he was unconscious for most of his time there.
“Izuku sweetie, are you up for some breakfast, I’m just making something light.” He heard his mother ask as he stepped out of the bathroom.
“That’s fine mom, thank you!” he called out to her as he went to dress himself in something comfortable. “I’ll be there to help you shortly.”
“That’s not necessary honey, the doctor told you to take it easy remember?” She reminded him, earning a small smile from the younger greenette even if she couldn’t see it.
He soon replied, “I can still help you with breakfast mom.” And quickly finished dressing himself and helped her plate the meal, seeing that she’d make some miso soup, some steamed rice, and some vegetables for a side dish.
It was as they were eating breakfast that he’d noticed something odd, “Mom, are you seeing this as well?” he asked her as he looked form the bottom corner of his vision towards her and back.”
Inko looked over but didn’t notice anything, “I’m sorry Izuku, but what am I supposed to be seeing?”
“There’s this blinking- or glowing icon of sorts in the corner of my vision, almost like something from a video game.” That’s when the memories came back to him, while he was unconscious, he’d spoken to a female manifestation of his quirk who explained his quirk was a system of sorts.
“Maybe this has something do with your quirk sweetie? Can you interact with it?” she asked him before she took another spoonful of soup. Following her suggestion Izuku did as he asked but when he did so two things happened at once, first a different screen appeared in his face at the same time a large white light appeared in the air above their table.
When the light disappeared a nicely sized bow nearly fell down on the table, but Izuku was quick enough and managed to grab it with both of his hands as he’d quickly stood up his chair falling backwards. Inko meanwhile had to stop herself from chocking on her soup as the large weapon appeared.
“Izuku is that-“ she began as she looked from the spear to her son who looked like he was looking at something else that only he could see. “Izuku?” she asked again as he looked up at her his eyes wide.
“This is my quirk.” He said softly before he corrected himself, “Well- part of my quirk, apparently, I’ve gained a quirk that functions somewhat like a system I’ve read about in a fantasy book before… I think I even remembered the book, ‘The Record of the Four Holy Weapons’.” He explained.
“Uhm- before you explain further Izuku, do you think you can put the bow away for a moment?” she asked him as she looked at the large weapon that he was still holding above their dining table.
“Ah- Uhm- sure, I’ll see what I can do.” He tried to mentally dismiss the bow but that didn’t seem to be working, he tried to let go of it as well he managed to do so with one hand, but the other didn’t want to let go. After a moment though he thought about either storing the bow, or having it be put in a storage mode of sorts so he could use both of his hands and luckily the bow listened- somewhat. “Oh wow…” Izuku said as the weapon began shrinking, as it shrunk however something else grew from the bow and soon the greenette was holding a necklace that held a miniature bow at the end which he quickly put over his head so he could wear it instead.
“That’s something…” Inko said as she watched the change happen with wide eyes, “So far it’s looking like a very interesting quirk dear.” She said with a soft smile as her focus changed back to her son.
“Yeah, you can say that…” he chuckled, “Maybe we should sit down while I see what I can figure out about this quirk. It already gave me some information, but apparently there’s a ‘basic help’ section that explain some of the basics to me.” He said.
The two quickly finished their breakfast, cleaned up, and then Inko filled the kettle with some water to make some tea while Izuku moved himself to their living room couch. Reading the original message once again.
Welcome Izuku!
As explained before this is your new quirk! Based upon a system you are familiar with, but altered to suit your wants, needs, and preferences better.
As a short explanation you’ve essentially been turned into one of the four heroes of ‘The Record of the Four Holy Weapons’ you’ve read before. Welcome to your new class and title of [Bow Hero].
That alone had sent a lot of thoughts and theories through his head, but seeing as there had been more information he continued reading.
You now have access to various features that are tied the bow, many of which you can find out through the ‘Basic Help’ menu which you can access anytime you want or need. And will update as you discover more about the system and your weapon.
You don’t need to worry about any ‘Waves of Catastrophe’ like what happens in the books, but there will be plenty other things to fight as we’ve implemented our own unique dungeon system.
We hope you enjoy your quirk! And while we most likely won’t be able to interact with you like we did while we were awakening, we are glad to belong to someone like you.
Go out there and become the best Bow Hero you can be!
When his mother came to the living room with some tea and sat down beside him, he began to relay what he had just learned to her.
“So… this system-“ she looked at him in confirmation, so he gave her a little nod. “is to help you grow and become stronger? Then how does it do that, I have to say I’m a little curious I’ve never heard of a quirk like this before.” She admitted, the two of them sharing a smile.
Izuku would feely admit that while he had gotten his tendency to mumble, and his love for quirks from his father, his curiosity about everything life had to offer came directly from his mother.
“Well, I haven’t checked out the ‘Basic Help’ menu yet, maybe it’ll explain how it works? I know that in the novel they had various stats and could upgrade their weapons with a lot of different methods in order to increase their power there as well.” He admitted, he mentally called out for the basic help menu and indeed a large page of information opened up. “I kind of wish I had my notebook so I could write this down at the same time.” Izuku mumbled, and before he knew it his mother was holding a fresh notebook and pen out to him.
“I guessed you would want to write it down.” She said as they once more shared a soft smile, while they’ve had their rough moments together while Izuku was growing up he was glad he was able to have these moments with his mother now.
“Alright, let’s see.” He said as he uncapped the pen and began softly reading out loud.
System Functions:
- Status: Shows you your class, level, attributes, and any other special stats if these are present.
- Inventory: Allows you to store various items, so long as they’re non-living. Can also be accessed from the gem on your weapon.
- Weapon Forms: Here you can see the various weapon forms that you’ve unlocked through the ‘absorption’, ‘copy’, and ‘crafting’ methods.
- Skills: Shows you the skills you’ve gained from your weapons, or those that belong to yourself gained through a variety of methods.
- Magic: Shows you the various spells and types of magic you know, can be learned through various ways.
- Quests: Quests are unique tasks with their own objectives which you can accept in order to earn various rewards, from experience for leveling, to items, to skills, and more.
“Well, they’re pretty clear in what the system has to offer you, that sounds pretty interesting” Inko said as she looked at the notebook and what Izuku had written down so far.
“I guess, I’ll have to check them all individually later though.” He said as he made a mental note to do so later. “But there’s more information here as well, on both the weapon functions as well as dungeons?” the last part came out more as a question then a statement but neither Midoriya commented on it.
Weapon Functions:
- Absorption: Weapons can absorb different loot in the form of items and materials to unlock new weapon forms. You may equip these forms if you meet the prerequisites, like the right level, or in series if the previous form was unlocked as well.
Note; Anything absorbed to gain weapon forms is not consumed and instead added to your inventory. - Crafting: So long as you are aware of the recipe, you can place the ingredients within in your inventory and use the weapon to craft the desired item with some time.
- Drop Items: Upon defeating or killing an enemy, there is a chance that it may drop special items that would normally be harder to come by. Drops can include anything from weapons, armor, and crafting materials to monster parts.
- Inventory: The legendary weapon is capable of accessing the user’s inventory, through this function the crafting and absorption functions can be used.
- Weapon Copy: The user can copy weapon variants of a similar class to their legendary weapon that they encounter. And even store them for later access.
- Weapon Transformation: Weapons can transform into different variations that grant the user new Equip Bonuses and Special Effects, such as stats, skills, and abilities. Additionally, with enough time spent with a form equipped, the user may "Unlock" and passively retain the Equip Bonuses even if they switch transformations
Note; Some weapons have bonuses that are special and exclusive to that weapon form even after the weapon has been ‘unlocked’
“That’s quite a bit of information” Izuku said as he rubbed his hand a little, feeling it cramp slightly though he wasn’t sure why as he’d written more in shorter amounts of time before.
Inko chimed in then, “Well, it’s better that the explanation is thorough, rather you know all of this now rather than having to find out in the middle of combat.” She said as he turned to her, “after all you won’t just be studying all the time when you make it into U.A.”
It was the first time she’d actually actively encouraged him in his dream of becoming a hero. While Izuku knew his mother loved him and wanted the best for him she hadn’t ever told him that she believed he’d be able to make it into U.A. or in becoming a hero.
While he wasn’t sure if this now was more because of his quirk or not he was still very happy to hear it. “Thanks mom…” he mumbled as he hugged her to his side, an arm now around her shoulders his head on hers.
“Don’t worry about its sweetie, now while you continue reading that last bit of information, I’ll go check out those quirk councillors so we can book you an appointment.” She paused for a moment as she got out of the side hug and got up from the couch. “Maybe it would be good to take your notebook with us as well? Would be easier than having to explain this all or having to write it down again for the councillor.” She said and Izuku nodded seeing her point.

It was that Thursday, three days after he’d discovered his new quirk that they’d found themselves sitting in the waiting room for this quirk councillor. They’d managed to get the appointment rather quickly seeing as Izuku was a unique case in that his quirk had only just awakened.
His mother had decided to tag along, he’d asked her too as well but apparently, she had already been planning on doing so. While he could have gone alone, his mother had taken the week off from work and he was glad to use her as something of a calming presence right now. Though he had honestly felt a lot calmer in general after his fainting spell, he stuttered less, and he was a lot clearer in his words when talking with people. But that was a concern for later.
“Midoriya Izuku?” A woman then called out as she stepped into the waiting room, the green-haired duo quickly approached the woman.
“I’m Midoriya Izuku, and this is my mother Midoriya Inko.” He explained as he gestured to his mother.
She nodded, “Do you wish for your mother to be present for the appointment?” as she asked that she looked at both of them before settling her gaze on him, Izuku nodded in response, and she noted something down before motioning at them both to follow her.
“Alright, welcome Midoriya family, would it be alright if I addressed both of you more informally to avoid any confusion regarding names?” She asked as she sat down behind her desk and the two followed suit by siting down themselves.
“That is alright with us.” Izuku said as his mother nodded in agreement.
“Very well, my name is Kobayashi Aoi, you may simply call me Doctor or Dr. Aoi if you wish, I’m not too hung up about formalities.” She explained as she put her pen down and laid her arms on her desk. “I was informed that you made this appointment because you only just awakened your quirk is that correct?” she asked.
“That’s right.” Izuku began, “I’ve written down a lot on my quirk so far from what I have been able to find out myself with some help from my quirk.” He grabbed a notebook from his bag, he had decided to copy all of his original notes into this one so it could theoretically be used for his file.
“Oh, that is quite useful, may I?” she asked as she held out her hand for the notebook. As Izuku handed it over she scanned it over shortly, “Alright, these are some nice details, but before we focus on this, I would like to ask what you know about the circumstances if your quirk awakening.”
When both Inko and Izuku gave her a confused look she explained some more, “You see there are many reasons why people can awaken their quirks late, for some people it’s due to suppression either mentally or through quirk suppressants, this is however normally in the cases of extreme abuse which I don’t think is what happened here.
However, there are also simple cases of a person their body not being ready yet, and their quirk essentially ‘waiting’ until it is, so it doesn’t hurt its user, this happens more often in sentient, semi-sentient, or quirks that ask a lot of the body.
And finally, we have trauma or emergency awakening, this is what we often see in individuals who are common labelled as ‘quirkless’, sometimes in these traumatic moments, or when their life is in danger a quirk may awaken- often to the detriment of the individual in question unfortunately.”
“That makes sense,” Izuku said, “I’m not a hundred percent sure as I was technically unconscious during this time, but I believe I talked with my quirk meaning it’s at least semi-sentient it explained that it was dormant because of my body’s condition and that during all this time it has been gathering energy turning it into what it is now and forcefully awakening when it had enough energy and my body was ready enough… it’s what caused my visit to the hospital.”
“But you haven’t had any other problems so far?” Doctor Aoi asked as she wrote down some notes as Izuku had been speaking.
“None so far.” Izuku said.
The trio continued to talk for a while addressing the various contents that Izuku had noted down in his notebook, and she’d even had him display the bow in its larger form when they revealed that he couldn’t dismiss it and instead had to wear it around his neck. Well up until they came to a certain part. “Is what I’m reading about these dungeons true?” she asked a little wide eyed.
Izuku nodded and silently recalled what the ‘basic help’ menu had told him.
Dungeons:
Dungeons are a unique part of the system that is essential for your future growth. This system is capable of reacting a number of environments filled with monsters and beasts which you must defeat, ending with a boss monster for that stage.
These dungeons come with various themes and are fit for various player levels. The time in dungeons is currently the same as the outside world. Though this may change eventually for higher level dungeons.
Current Dungeons Available:
[Slimes] Stage 1
“Well, I haven’t tested it, or much of my quirk yet, deciding that it would be better to wait for this appointment first. But so far, I have no reason to distrust my quirk.” Izuku explained.
“This is quite the feat if your quirk is capable of this, it would be an element of space and time, it’s very unique for both to present within one quirk, let alone one as broad in abilities like yours.” She admitted, “I’m honestly not sure how we can label your quirk for the records, it looks like it’s a mixture between Mutation, Transformation, and Emitter. And this technically doesn’t even account for all of your abilities, at least I don’t think so…” she sighed.
“I guess it would be best of we did some simple tests here and get you a licence to a quirk training gym, or get you partnered with a quirk trainer who can supervise you when you start delving into these dungeons, just as a precaution at first. And we should probably get your quirk registered properly as well…” She scratched her head for a moment. “Let’s move on to one of our rooms made for the more physical kind of testing.” She then stood up and motioned for the two to follow. “Just in case Izuku, both your mother and I will be behind the protective glass, we’ll have some dummies brought in and then we can test your bow on those alright?” she said as she motioned to one of the walls where a different door was alongside a large glass that covered most of the wall.
“Sure enough.” Izuku said, and indeed the two women soon entered the door as someone else came in carrying some dummies with were set up on the other side of the room.
The intercom soon came to live as Doctor Aoi’s voice came through, “Alright Izuku, if you could please use your bow to try and attack the dummies for us?” Doing as instructed he enlarged the spear; it flashed a little in the bright light.
Izuku took a long look at the bow now in his hands, it was a beautiful bow, made from a silver like material but still as bendy as a wooden bow would be, in the center and in the front of his bow on the grip an emerald gem was proudly displayed. As he pulled his arm back his hand in the string an arrow started forming, the arrow was made of a green similar to the emerald gem.
He relaxed his stance a little into something that felt right and focused on his breathing, his eyes narrowing slightly in concentration as he released the arrow.
