Work Text:
Izuku watched as Japan rebuilt itself. From the debris came new, sturdier buildings, and from the bare it became green and lively.
He watched as the people he knew rebuilt the cities that were destroyed during the final fight and watched as they healed themself and the people around them.
But only from a distance. Izuku only watched from a distance. Because he no longer fit in. He was no longer a hero material, no matter what people told him. After all he needed a quirk to be one and he no longer had one. He pushed everything in the last fight against Tenko and All For One and he did it. He destroyed them. He banished them forever. And with All For One went One For All too. He no longer had his fancy lightning or that incredible speed. He couldn't float anymore, nor could he use Blackwhip. He was again who he used to be. Quirkless Deku. But this time he had memories. Memories of his classmates, of his teachers and his mentors. Of the people he saved. He also had memories of the people he fought and the ones who earned his respect.
He had all those but he guesses he never recovered from middle school. So when the doctor told him he no longer had his quirk, something broke. The voices came back, along with the anxiety and the panic attacks and mean thoughts.
Izuku only lasted a month with those back. One month before he begged his mother to move to the otherside of Japan. So in the end they sold their apartment in Musutafu and moved to the Island of Kyushu, to the city of Kumamoto. In Kumamoto Inko managed to buy an apartment which was connected to a garden that their family shared with 10 other people. All of them were friendly and welcomed the pair with open arms.
And while Izuku Akatani started a new life in Kumamoto, in Musutafu he ceased to exist and disappeared off the surface Earth.
Izuku in the end ended up being homeschooled, not trusting people not to recognise him and fearing that his secret regarding his quirk would get out.
He was watching the news as he was preparing a coffee in the little coffee his mother opened soon after they had arrived. On the news was Red Riot and Real Steel. They both worked under Fat Gum. Both became quite famous after the war. Not surprising really. They were good and passionate. Both made great heroes, that's for sure.
Izuku placed the dry mug under the coffee machine and went to fill the portafilter with Geisha coffee grounds to make the order. He looked back when he placed the filter into the grouphead. Now the news was playing two disappearances. They were desperate to find both. One was dangerous, the other was missed by many.
On one side of the screen Izuku saw his own high school picture with his previous name under it. The photo was now 2 years old and he looked a lot different. On the other side was Dabi or as some prefer Touya Todoroki. He broke out of the Hospital a little under a year ago. He apparently managed to break into Aizawa Sensei's house and coax Eri into helping him before he vanished. According to the little girl, Touya no longer looked like Dabi. Instead he looked so much like the little boy he was before the accident. At least for his looks. He was still tall and his body was still 24. This information always made Izuku proud. This information showed just how far Eri had come from how she was previously.
Izuku smiled to himself as he poured the whole milk into the cup and did a little art on the top before placing it on the serving tray alongside with the 3 muffins the woman ordered before delivering it to her table.
As he placed the coffee in front of the woman, the little bell over the door chimed and a man walked in, taking a seat in one of the secluded boots. Izuku looked over after he got everything done at the previous table, grabbed a menü and the small bell that rang in the kitchen if they pushed it. He walked over to the white haired man.
He greeted the man and placed the menü down along with the bell and started explaining how it worked when he was interrupted. "Hero Deku?"
Izuku felt his blood freeze as he recognized the man's voice. It was only now that he made eye contact with him and could come face to face with the man whose picture was on the news mere minutes ago. Izuku felt panic rise in him and he wanted to leave. He really wanted to leave and hide in the staff room but before he even had the chance to turn around a hand grabbed his arm and he found himself sitting in the same booth with Dabi across from him. "What the fuck are you doing here?" Came from the wanted man. "I could ask you the same!"
They bickered. Bickered like an old married couple for 5 minutes before somehow the conversation turned to calm and collected. Soon closing came and Izuku was still chatting with Dabi. He served the incoming customers but always returned to the same booth to talk.
Dabi worked as a tattoo artist in his own shop and went by the name Touya Himura now. He had no idea how nobody made the connections yet. "Hey! I look the same and you are the first person to recognise me. Though if I had to guess that's due to the war. It never really reached the southern part of Japan so they never really got involved." answered Izuku to the other man.
And this is how it went. First Dabi showed up every week, then every other day and in the end he came every day before and after his shift.
Soon, it became Touya and Izuku and before they knew it it was Izu-kun and Tou-chan. They spent hours talking and Touya even helped out sometimes when Izuku got overwhelmed with the number of customers. He never took anything for it and he always declined Izuku's free coffee offer.
Izuku knew what love was but he never expected to find it. Not when he was quirkless and according to everyone plain. But maybe the league was right about one thing. That the outcasts have to stay together.
The boy has no idea when the innocent talks become filled with flirting and when the normal hangouts turned into dates. Izuku has no idea when his clothes started disappearing from his closet at home and appearing in Dabi’s apartment. He also has no idea when he started calling the older man’s apartment home too. But it was. It was a home, one that was just theirs. And he has no idea when they became so committed that they adopted a child.
For your information, her name is Bean and she is a 1 year old blue tabby with pink toes, nose and big and pretty green eyes. They found her on the street after a date night and they are not bad guys. They couldn't leave her there.
So yes. Izuku had no idea when they became a family of 3 but they did and he is not complaining.
Inko watched as his son befriended the ex-villain who came to their coffee everyday. She watched as his son's expression became the same as it was once with Katsuki. Inko watched as the two slowly fell deeper and deeper in love. Not that she minded. Izuku was happy and all that mattered to her. Even if it was with a villain.
Besides, Touya was kind, surprisingly. First she was Madam, then it became Mrs Midoriya before it quickly turned to Inko and a few weeks later to Aunty.
And the day Izuku walked out of the shop in hands with Touya to go on their first official date, that day Aunty became Ma.
And Inko remembers the day well when her son stood next to the white haired man in front of a marriage officiant with her on Izuku’s and Touya’s good friend on the other man’s side in a random courthouse in the city. She remembers as they signed the papers and both became Himura-Akatani before they shared the famous first kiss as a married couple.
