Work Text:

Meredith hadn’t expected Addison Montgomery of all people to show up on her doorstep. She’d been living in Boston for a couple months, researching Alzheimer’s while helping her kids adjust to the move. She lived a further distance from LA now than when she was living in Seattle. Honestly, when she opened the door, she was expecting the kids’ babysitter Michael. But there Addison was, looking completely unsure of whether she would be welcomed or not. And that was ridiculous; Seattle, Boston, it didn’t matter. Addison would always be welcome in her home..

“Hi,” She greeted, trying to get her bearings. Why was it that every time Addison came back into her life, she knocked her entire world off kilter?

“Hi,” Addison answered, “I hope it’s okay that I stopped by.”

“Of course,” Stepping aside, she continued, “Come in, come in.”

Zola was a smart child. She knew that her mom wanted what was best for her, Bailey and Ellis. Even if that meant leaving Seattle. She thought that her mom had been happy with Nick, but she looked happier with Addison than she ever had with Nick. In fact, she was sure she looked even happier than when she’d been with Daddy, from what she could remember anyway. She couldn’t ask Bailey or Ellis because they wouldn’t know, so she decided to do something she normally didn’t: meddle. She raced up the stairs to find her siblings.

The day had turned into a rather pleasant one. She and Addie had caught up, spit-balling ideas off of each other about their current topics: Alzheimer’s for her and Roe v Wade for Addison. She had to admit, it was nice to not argue and just have open communication.

She turned to get a pitcher of water from the fridge, pouring the two of them a glass. It was extremely hot today, and even with the AC going, it was still warm in the kitchen.

“Would you like to stay for dinner?” She asked.

She nearly dropped the pitcher as the kids shouted from the living room, “Would you like to stay forever?!”

Addison quirked an eyebrow in amusement, her lips curled into a soft smile, “I would love to stay for dinner. I’m not too sure about forever, though. I think you’d get sick of me.”

“I doubt that,” She replied.
