The first MultiVersus Gaming Tournament

Summary:

Finn holds a video game competition in Batman's arcade. Will everything go smoothly, or will it go down in flames?

Notes:

Shoutout to The_Freaky_One2325, who suggested I do something with Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you wanted, but I hope this isn't too bad.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Welcome to the very first Multiversus gaming tournament.” Finn said into his mic. He was standing atop an arcade machine in Batman’s arcade, which was filled with so many different types of video games that it boggled Finn’s mind.

“Up first is the Champion of the Amazons, Wonder Woman!” Diana stepped up and smiled.

“And her opponent is the scary queen of crime herself, Harley Quinn!” Harely stepped up and started blowing kisses to the crowd. One landed on Morty, who’s face went as red as her outfit.

“Ready to be beaten by the toughest gal in Gotham?”

“I think that title belongs to Poison Ivy.”

Harley stuck out her tongue before grabbing the arcade’s cabinet's joy con. The game they were playing was Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, which was filled with a bunch of characters Finn had never heard of.

“Let the battle begin!”

Diana chose a woman with red hair, and completely dominated over Harely’s little knight. Once he was down, Harely’s big green guy got in some decent damage, until Diana switched to using a robot with a green cap. Then Harely’s final character, a white and red wolf, tried fighting back, but to no avail. Wonder Woman won with all three stocks.

“Aw come on! How’d ya do that?”

“By playing strategically, and not just mashing buttons.”

“Whatever.” Harely stalked away, and it was time to move on to the nest of the competition.

“Whoa! Who knew that Reindog could bust those moves? Congratulations man.”

“Thank you Finn the Human.” Reindog said in his surprisingly eloquent voice. “In Zanifeer, we do not have these strange dancing machines, but they are quiet fun.” He walked off the DDR machine, while his opponent Taz looked disappointed

“For our next competition, we’re going to move over to the Pac Man” He jumped over and stood at the top one of the cabinets.

“Whoever lasts the longest wins! For our first competitors, it’s my amazing and sometimes terrifying girlfriend, Arya Stark!”

Arya stepped up and tried to hide the confusion on her face. While he gave her a crash course on video games a few nights ago, she was still very unprepared. But he gave her a reassuring smile, and she looked a little less nervous.

“And the poor sap who she’s going against is Shaggy Rogers!” The skinny hippie stepped up and held his hand for Arya to shake. She did so, and then the competition began.

It was one sided. While Arya was able to last for a decent amount of time, Shaggy was just cracked. He made it to level fifty before finally dying.

“Great job Shaggy!” Velma said.

“Like, thanks Velma!”

“And now let’s move to the next competition, foosball!”

“That was a crazy competition! But now it’s time to see who the real champion of the first ever MutliVersus game tournament is! Give it up for our final two competitors, Rick Sanchez and Agent Smith!”

Only a few people clapped as the villain and the alcoholic stepped up. They might not have been very popular, but you couldn’t deny their video game prowess.

“Their final challenge is simple, the person who gets to and survives the kill screen wins!”

“What’s the kill screen?” Steven asked.

“It’s when the game starts breaking, and so the blocks start falling faster and faster to try and stop the player from going further. But some players have managed to go past it.” Batman explained.

“Are you one of those players?” Diana teased.

“No, but my son Tim is. He was very ecstatic about it.”

“Now that explanations are out of the way, let’s go!” Finn shouted.

The two opponents sat down on the couch and picked up their controllers. The game was on.

Rick was faster at dropping blocks, while Agent Smith was able to get more Tetrises, so they stayed even throughout the match, until they reached the kill screen.

“Come on Rick, beat his ass!” Morty yelled.

“Raghagha!” Stripe screamed.

Despite their proficiencies, the kill screen was proving to be too much for them. Soon, both their blocks reached the top of the screen, and the game was over.

“Wow, that was a close match! Looks like we’ll need to rewind to see who won.”

“It is obvious who won. No human could have beaten me.” Agent Smith said.

“I’m the smartest man in the universe, of course I would win.”

“The smartest man in the universe? When will humans learn that their hubris will be their downfall.”

“You know what will cause your downfall, my laser gun!” Rick took out his gun and aimed it at Agent Smith, who took out his own gun.

“Whoa whoa whoa!” Finn stepped between them. “This is a video game tournament, not a combat one. We shoot and kill each other all the time, this is meant to be a break from all that.”

“Break’s over.” Rick said, and he fired his gun. Before the lazer could hit Finn, a pink bubble surrounded him. Then all hell went loose.

Stripe teamed up with Agent Smith and were shooting at Rick, while his grandson stepped in and started sending rocks from the ground. Then Taz got into the fight, and he lost track after that.

When the dust all settled, the arcade was a complete wreck. Arcade cabinets were on their sides, random wires poked out of the ground, and half the lights were broken.

“Sorry about this Mr. Batman, I was just trying to bring everyone together. I’ll help clean up.”

“I’ll help too!” Steven and Mr. Clark said.

“As well I.” Reindog and Diana said at the same time.

“Like, me too.” Shaggy said.

“Me too!” Jake yelled.

Arya pulled Needle out of the Pac Man cabinet. “I shall help as well.”

“I guess I can help, I still need to pay you back for that one time in Gotham.” Harley said.

Batman smiled. “Then let's get to work.”

It took a lot of effort, they managed to clean the arcade up. Most of the screen’s were scratched, but every game ran, thanks to BMO’s help.

“Like that was a lot of work man, it really made me hungry.” Shaggy said.

“Aren’t you always hungry?” Jake asked.

“Yeah, but now I’m starving.”

“Why don’t we head to the kitchen so I can make everyone a meal.” Batman said.

“Really?” Finn asked.

Batman nodded. “You helped fix my arcade, you deserve a reward.”

“Thanks Batman!”

Notes:

This is the most amount of characters so far. Maybe I shouldn't have tagged so many since they're mostly side characters, but ehhhh.

Also Reindog talks now, since he does in the Riff. So before in A breakthrough, the reason why he doesn't talk is because he hasn't learned English yet.
