Silver Journey
Chapter 3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That night when Brendan got home he let his Dad know that he was bringing someone to meet him the next morning. When asked he told him that the boy Silver was a boy a bit younger then him but already had some incredible pokemon and was a breeder. This caught the professors attention as he was having trouble keeping the population of the starters he handed out going. This was made extra important as May his sister had reported that the only known Treeko colony had scattered due to the destruction of there home tree and that someone had disturbed the Torchic nesting grounds last year.
This was a major issue as there were very few breeders who could breed these pokemon as successfully without new members of the species being added. Despite that non of the breeders Professor Birch talked to could provide a solution aside for finding new colonies to add new blood to. The next Morning Brendan rushed to Pokemon center and all but dragged a haft asleep Silver to his house.
Taking in Silvers rumpled appearance and the fact that the boy was clearly in his sleeping clothes Professor Birch turned to his only child and asked, “is there something you want to tell me Brendan? It clearly must be important if your dragging the poor boy here in his pajamas. You didn’t get him pregnant did you?”
A blush exploded on both there faces as while Brendan tried to form a coherent explanation, Silver replied, “No sir. Your son just seemed to be in a hurry this morning. I was under the impression that you were on a time crunch to fit in my request to update my breeder license so that I can practice in Hoenn.”
“While it’s true I am busy I actually wanted to meet you as Brendan said he was interested in traveling with you. While that is fine I wanted to know if you would take a commission to help find a way to preserve the number of Hoenn starter Pokemon. You see the current method is to bring in fresh blood and have them breed with any female we can find but the females are so rare and few trainers are willing to let there partners be turned into breeding stock,” Professor Birch explained.
“I see but what about just using stud probability,” Silver asked.
“Thats to unreliable and the stud probability for these species are around 10%. Sadly theres no way to meet the demand for starter pokemon and keep the species alive if we rely on studs,” Prof. Birch explained.
“I see,” Silver began, “how many new pokemon would you need?”
“Honestly about one hundred and sixty of each species would ensure they survived and could establish new colony's,” the professor said.
Thinking for a moment Silver turned to Brendan and asked, “and you wish to travel with me?”
“Ya. You have some awesome Pokemon and I really need someone to at least have my back for the first few months out in the wild and you probably should have someone to,” Brendan said with a bubbly smile.
With conformation and seeing no real reason not to help Silver turned to the Professor and started to explain the deal he was going to make, “Professor I have a deal for you. I have in my possession a type of pokemon that can breed with anything that does breed sexually. The pokemon have a one in elevon chance of producing a egg of their species and can produce an egg every five days of so. The problem with them is that they were stolen from a criminal organization as they were failed experiments. This means that while they are perfect for breeding different pokemon, especially male heavy rare ones, they have little to no combat ability. The deal I wish to put forward to you is to rent twelve or so of them from me. The Pokemon are registered to me but because of there origins I need a non-discloser agreement. I don’t mind you keeping the eggs that have the species in inside them and hatching them for your own use but I can’t let it be know that I am the one who stole the Dittos, thats the name of the pokemon by the way, from team Rocket as they are already looking for me for escaping them.”
“Team Rocket you say. If thats the case then how did you steal them. That gangs been around for decades after all,” Prof. Birch asked.
“My dads the gang leader. Its why I could get them but also why I’m in Hoenn as I know that it’s fair enough away that I can not be discovered here as long as I don’t participate in any of the major competitions like the Evergrande Conference or the Hoenn Grande Festival,” Silver explained.
“I see. So seeing as how your here it means that you can’t report you father so I won’t bother asking about that, what I am going to ask about is how much for the me to rent the Ditto’s as you called them,” Prof. Birch asked.
“Honesty whatever you think is fair and a single male egg from each species so that when I settle down I can use them as studs. I keep the eggs in a unhatched state as until a egg hatches it has very little interaction with the world and can stay like that for centuries or longer,” was Silvers answer.
Nodding Prof Birch drew up a breeding contract. The contract had him buying the eggs for five thousand poke each including the Ditto eggs. The contract then went on to explain that the price for board was waved to do the selling of eggs at a third of his standard price.
After the talks were done Brendan led Silver to the yard so he could meet his new capture. While he didn’t know exactly what it was based on the sound it made he suspected that it was a ghost or a dark type. Both were dangerous if left unchecked so he first let out Mede causing Brendan to suck his breath in shock.
“You have a Milotic,” Brendan exclaimed in awe. This was due to the fact that Milotic were famous in Hoenn as thou there were only five know trainers with them in the world two of those were in Hoenn.
“Ya this is Mede. He’s my starter and the first egg I raised. I’m having him wrap around us so he can cast Protect if needed. I’m fairly sure what were dealing with is a ghost so better safe then sorry,” Silver explained before letting out Zeus and his Tyranitar, Ares.
Looking at the green rock monster Brendan asked nervously, “Is the Tyranitar really needed. Even if its a ghost a Tyranitar seems extreme.”
“No Ares here is the most important if were dealing with a ghost as he’s part dark type and knows Dark Pulse. Brendan I get that you love pokemon but something you need to learn is to never trust a pokemon you have no report with as that the easiest way to get yourself killed. Honestly this level of preparation is the least I can do when dealing with a potentially hostel ghost type. Take a look at what I have let out. I have Zeus if it tries to run, I have Mede if it tries to attack us and I have Ares if it starts a battle. Ghosts are the most dangerous type of pokemon in the world followed by dragon types. The thing with dragons thou is if you can beat them down and earn there compliance that will quickly grow to respect ghosts need to fear your retaliation before you can start to work with them,” Silver explained.
“I see, so thats why you have these three out but you said you didn’t know what it was,” Brendan said.
“Thats correct. Thou I can’t think of anything in Hoenn that it could be but a ghost. Hoenn lacks the cruel fairies and the tricky foxes that that are also know to make that sound so unless its a Shiftry I can’t think of a good alternative to a ghost,” Silver said before finely throwing the pokeball. As the light faded a little black, gray and red fox was on the ground.
“Um, what is it. I don’t think its a ghost Silver,” Brendan said unsure.
Sighing but not taking his eyes of the little fox Silver signaled for Mede to unwrap from them. Once that was done he turned to Ares and said, “Down boy. It seems our luck is weird again, this is a Zorua. How the hell a Zorua came to be in Hoenn I have no idea but then again its not like this is the first time the species snuck into a eastern region and made it there home.”
The Zorua looked close to having a heart-attack from being in the cross-hears of a Tyranitar and it was then that Silver remembered that the Zorua species had never occupied the Kanto-Johto region because the area most suited for them was the same area that Tyranitar made there territory.
Turning to the shacking little fox Silver bent down and offered it a pokemon treat that was general flavored. He kept them around for wild pokemon or for other people pokemon as he had specialized treats for his pokemon. After excepting the treat and calming down some Silver picked up the little fox and started to scan it.
“Well looks like your a healthy little boy. You seem to know Scratch, Leer, Torment, and Extrasensory. Not a big move pool but workable. I’m your new trainer and I come with food, safety and an aura bond that will increase your growth rate, intelligence and make evolution easier,” Silver said.
“Why did you say all that,” Brendan asked once Silver had returned all his pokemon.
“Well dealing with dark types they need to see a greater benefit for being with you them being free. Its why so few people can handle Tyranitar as there growth rate makes them not viable for most people competitively as they take at least 5 years to rase-up to be Tyranitar from Larvitar. Thats longer then most people are active pokemon trainers and those that become professionals rarely have the time to dedicate to raise a Tyranitar at that speed. Most Tyranitar take about twenty- twenty five years to get to that stage of there life and once there theres very little that a human can offer them that they don’t already have. Really the only things that I know of are mating rights, like with myself, TMs and, those are one time use, and Mega evolution. Other then those things you need to fight tooth and nail to keep them under control. Thats the reason only three are know to have trainers if you don’t count myself,” Silver explained.
“Huh,” Brendan said, “that makes sense. So you keep your Tyranitar because you let him breed with you Ditto. How old is he then?”
“Fifteen this year. He was thirteen when I caught him. The thing you need to understand with dark types is that while they are always willing to kill you when you first catch them when you win there loyalty they become some of the most loyal pokemon out there. Honestly while I love Mede if I had to pick one pokemon to stand by my side and fight to the death for me I’d pick Ares,” Silver said.
“I see. So that Zorua as you called it was a dark type then,” Brendan asked the younger boy.
“Ya, they’re known as the tricky fox Pokemon because they are masters of illusions,” Silver explained.
“Well at least it wasn’t a ghost right. You seem to already know how to handle dark types,” Brendan teased Silver before he pulled him back into the lab so that he could help Silver set up the breeding Dittos for his dad.
